It has some nice features, but is missing some very important ones. Among other things, it provides almost no privacy options beyond clearing cookies. Unlike the Chromium based Opera browser, there is no setting to clear cookies on exit or any means for managing cookie policy exceptions by site.-xtabber (April 06, 2016, 10:25 AM)
with Vivaldi, the only way I have found that I can drag a tab to one of my other monitors, is by right clicking on it, and selecting move to new windows. However, when I do that, it reloads the tab. This isn't not good-nite_monkey (April 06, 2016, 08:27 PM)

A couple of what I thought were far better than most I've seen lately. The first deals with a "forensic accountant," reviewing some cabin cam footage of a mercenary drop assault on a space colony. The second is a police story from a future NYC where police protection is provided solely as a commercial subscription service.-40hz (March 25, 2016, 06:41 PM)

Dan Warner is a Desaturator, tasked with sapping beauty from the world in a future where color is used as energy.

Yes, the USB on that little thingummy was tight, but it got a little smoother after 10 or 20 recharges and music transfers. After it finally died, I looked around at all the available Mp3 player options, and found that for my money, a $20 Wal-Mart Tracfone (the LG Sunrise which was on sale over Christmas; it's now $60...) with some extra MicroSD memory was going to serve me better as a music player, and upgrade my phone to boot, so I can recommend that route.

Just keep in mind that this sounds like it's running a lightweight VM of some sort - the bash window cannot run or interact with Windows programs.I wonder what the technical reason behind this is - as far as I understand their approach, this is more of a syscall translation thingamajig than a lightweight VM like CoLinux. There's probably still some kernel object translation going on as well (like file handles) which might complicate windows<>linux communication, and probably some security concerns as well.-mwb1100 (April 01, 2016, 08:12 PM)-f0dder (April 04, 2016, 04:41 PM)
How the heck did they do that? First, Ubuntu parent company Canonical and Microsoft will be running it not on Linux in a container or virtual machine (VM), but on Windows native libraries and programs: Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
WSL was quietly placed in the Windows 10 (build 14251) code in late January. A few days later, a developer worked out that two new subsystems lxcore.sys and lxss.sys, could be bridges for Windows programmers to develop Linux applications. The developer was half right.

"A team of sharp developers at Microsoft has been hard at work adapting some Microsoft research technology to basically perform real time translation of Linux syscalls into Windows OS syscalls. Linux geeks can think of it sort of the inverse of "WINE" -- Ubuntu binaries running natively in Windows. Microsoft calls it a "Windows Subsystem for Linux".

"Stand Still. Stay Silent" is a post apocalyptic webcomic with elements from Nordic mythology, set 90 years in the future. It's mostly a story about friendship and exploring a forgotten world, with some horror, monsters and magic on the side.
The comic updates with one new page every weekday, Monday through Friday.
It's been 90 years after the end of the old world. Most of the surviving population of the Known world live in Iceland, the largest safe area in existence, while the safe settlements in the other Nordic countries; Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, are small and scarce.
Countless mysterious and unspoken dangers lurk outside the safe areas - the Silent world, and hunters, mages and cleansers will spend their lives defending the settlements against the terrifying beings. Because of a great fear towards everything in the Silent world no official attempts to explore the ruins of the old have been made, and most of the information about it has turned into ancient lore, known by few.
But now, at last, it is time to send out an research crew into the great unknown! A poorly funded and terribly unqualified crew, but a crew nonetheless.

I guess I still resent the MTV gimmick from years ago. Force the viewer's eyes to refocus every 2 1/2 seconds and they won't change the channel.-MilesAhead (March 23, 2016, 09:11 AM)

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Outlaw programming languages that threaten the safety of the American people and work counter to our way of life.
...
My specific suggested list of languages to restrict from use, and phase out includes:
Javascript, Ruby, and Java.

Time will tell if this is a genuine effort to be more cross-platform on Microsoft's part; or, if it's just another example of Microsoft's now classic "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" strategy.-40hz (March 17, 2016, 09:54 AM)
A madcap, adrenalized, kung-fu, video game Western that pushes VFX and practical effects to their goofy, awesome limits. Attacked by the nefarious Ailester Hall, a man seeks revenge for his wife's death with the help of a mysterious list of prophecies.
