Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Portability of Clipboard Help+Spell

As with most of my programs, you can use them portably, just edit the ConfigDir.ini file and remove the // in front of
// CONFIGDIR = .
to tell the program to use the current directory it's run from to save the date.

Actually I think you should be able to put the line
PORTABLE=TRUE

at the top of the file to have the same effect.

I hate to tread on everyone's sense of temporality and causality, but in 1984 I received a mysterious dossier on microfilm format that had a list of 500,000 users, and instructions to set up this site.  Your names and emails, along with your forum names, avatars, and and some additional unknown symbols, are all present in this original dossier, along with several hundred thousand users that have not yet signed up.  It also lists emergency procedures for dealing with a situation where someone on the list attempts to leave the site (very unpleasant procedures i must say).  The only thing i took the liberty of changing from the dossier instructions was the name of the site -- which i was instructed to call DOCO40948093823342352352352352350893425093485.com -- i thought that was a little long.

This is pretty huge for (recovering) political junkies like me -- this week c-span has finished putting it's entire video archives online, with an awesome search engine.  Some amazingly good stuff to watch here, and a big step forward for US citizens.

the cafepress mugs are outstanding quality.. i've been dissapointed with the tshirts ive seen.

as javajones notes, this article suggests that printfection has much better quality shirts, so it would be nice to evaluate.

i agree with javajones and 40hz -- i adopt a zero-tolerance for hard drive problems.  once a hard drive starts acting hinky, i immediately put a label on it saying "untrustworthy" and will never again use it for anything important.

Living Room / Re: Anyone playing Mass Effect 2 game yet?
« Last post by mouser on March 16, 2010, 05:00 PM »
ps.
If anyone wants my copy of Mass Effect 2, i'm willing to send it out; i haven't activated the downloadable content, so that is available as well.  US only please, just to save me shipping costs.  If more than one person wants it i will send it to a person who has written a coding snack or mini-review.

Deo i like this idea -- let me take it further, i think a nice really casual mode that games could have might be to be able to play them on "advice" mode, where the game would basically play itself, but take "advice" from the player.

So if player wanted to move the character, the game AI would do the shooting.. If player wanted to do the shooting, the AI would take over moving, etc.  Up to the point where the game would basically play itself and let the player occasionally do things like set a general goal or make an important choice.

ProcessTamer / Re: Does anyone use Process Tamer with Minimum?
« Last post by mouser on March 16, 2010, 09:48 AM »
Welcome to the site will.

The programs do completely different things, so it's fine to run them at the same time.  People have suggested i add some memory minimizing features to Process Tamer, but i haven't done so yet -- and you should know that there is some debate about whether minimizing memory does any good.

i think for now this issue is settled, and we won't be placing ads on the site, even as an experiment.  we might set up some strange opt-in for ads system at some point just for those curious about how it would look.

The Form Letter Machine / Re: Just got approval of posting into AlternativeTo
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2010, 11:07 AM »
Let me clarify: The Form Letter Machine is a program I wrote, and i was saying that it is not one of my most well known programs.  Those who have use for it find it good -- it's just not something that too many people have a need for.

FreewareGenius has a write up today about a (new?) free downloading tool StreamTransport.  Sounds promising, and even seems to have some url capturing features like those found in URL Snooper?

The app is able to browse and download video clips from video hosting websites of HTTP, RTMP, RTMPT, RTMPE, RTMPTE protocol, and these cover overwhelming majority of websites such as Hulu, Veoh, Boxee, Joost, YouTube, Yahoo Video, CBS, etc.  The URL of any video clip that is playing will be auto-captured and listed out for your convenience, and you can download it with one click or just ignore it. There is no bother to add URL manually.

maybe they are breaking it up into sections.. not sure how to solve that.

Initial testing was very positive.. Really friendly user interface, great that you can save and load projects.

I did experience some hanging (at least in my vmware test environment) that seemed to happen often when i tried to add text -- and the text would not show up when this happened, so seems like some problem with the text generation maybe?

A feature i'd love to see is the ability to invoke BatchBlitz via commandline and give it the name of a project file and then the name of some source files and have it run the saved-project settings on the specified files.

that's very interesting wetsmellydog, as someone who generally does not like these fancy custom media player drivers, this is something i might want to check out.
