General Software Discussion / Re: Free Photoscape: 5 stars from Snapfiles
« Last post by Curt on June 29, 2013, 11:52 AM »
I clearly stand corrected. Thank you, and Sorry! PhotoScape obviously has a slider.

I have never seen any reason to use PhotoScape for the feature in question; it is changing the entire picture, when used. For changing of colour balance, I would use an editor with a much more advanced marker / selector, than PhotoScape can offer.

The feature must be "unspeakable", because PhotoScape does not have any sliders for editing, and never had. Memory is not always just missing in computers...

option to compare an image selected with any other similar in my pc.

Use the Bolide I was talking about. Create a folder for the picture in question. Navigate Bolide to the folder and tell it to find any similar picture. Easy. My reason for complaining about Bolide is not that it doesn't work, because it does, but because it looks and feels like an elderly, abandoned program. But it does the job.

Found Deals and Discounts / eM Client 40% off
« Last post by Curt on June 20, 2013, 03:46 AM »
I went to Bits du Jour to investigate the offer in more details. It turns out that Em Client basically is a freeware program, and it is still being made "outside of Softmaker" - in USA. The only difference I have been able to find between FREE and $50_PRO is "support, commercial use, and more than two accounts" - other than that, they are identical. eM Client 5 PRO is on "fixed discount" via Bits du Jour: 40% off => $29.95 http://www.bitsdujou...software/em-client-5 but "normal" people will only need the free version: http://www.emclient.com/download

This is all very weird to me, being an old Softmaker customer. I feel having been played; why did Softmaker make me pay a lot of money for a freeware program? Yes, my version is "integrated" with Softmaker's suite, and I have not checked if the American original can be installed on top of the German sibling, but in my mind, I feel cheated. Hey, maybe they told me in advance, and I have forgotten

-again today.

you will get unlimited backup space to backup all the files you want. Just understand that 'cloud backup' is perfect for doing what you want to do. But the files must be restored 'somewhere' within 30 days after they are deleted from your hard drive. Either to your new laptop, a different external drive, an old hard drive, any other hard disk, etc... This is not the plan if you want long term storage.

But we do offer Cloud Storage plans too which is referred to as our SYNC plan on the site, this would be ideal for long term storage because it's essentially a 'virtual' drive that you can access from anywhere. I just wanted to point that out since this is the #1 question we get about cloud backup.

Waterfox is 16.01 and FF is 16.02
Waterfox is still 16.01, but Firefox is now 18. Should I worry for the future of Waterfox? :tellme:

Waterfox has been stuck at version 18.01 for very long, and the number of "issues" has been growing and growing. Yesterday facebook made it freeze again and again ("program not answering"), so now I am running the normal Firefox, and facebook is again acting normal. Good-bye, Waterfox, may you be updated.

is "image" a photographic picture or a computer backup?

If it is about photos, I am sad to say  no-one has really made an effort the last couple of years => there is almost nothing! I use the old Bolide Image Comparer, but 1) I would like something new and fancy to replace it, and 2) it doesn't seem to be maintained, so it may not be worth the money to new customers.

a recent rerun made me remember yet another favourite of mine:
Robert Altman's Gosford Park ♥ In my mind it is within Top 50.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0280707/
http://en.wikipedia....rg/wiki/Gosford_Park

You may need to love the classic British understatement culture, to fully appreciate this genre. Some people have said the film isn't funny. However, when I re-saw it last week I was literally ROTFL, when the policeman (played by Stephen Fry) again and again tried to introduce himself; it was just so hilarious! I am big fan of British humour on film and tv, and Gosford Park is not at all boring - even though Robert Altman is an American....

The new in your idea is not copy on select, but paste on middle-click; many programs will offer to copy on select. You may want to have a different kind of extra clipboard, as an example working with the NUM keys - I cannot imagine anyone offering the middle-click option.
