LaunchBar Commander / Re: Icons not showing in LBC
« Last post by mouser on November 05, 2010, 10:14 PM »
because the same problem occurs with all shortcuts for 64bit apps.

ok that's what i wanted to know.

ok let me look into it and see what i can figure out.

but.. actually if you could show me the property dialog for one of these shortcuts, it might help..
is the target path to it exact? or is there some path environmental variable involved?

ok, now that i understand i can try to figure out how to fix it..

here's a question for you, if you look at the detailed properties of the xplorer^2 shortcut whose icon isnt displaying properly in windows file explorer right+click context menu for properties, do you see anything unusual about it? does it point to an actual correct location on the disk for the application? any other parameters passed to it? anything unusual at all?

ok im still unclear about what you are saying the behavior is..

i'm sorry for being dense, but am i understanding it now that the problem is that when displaying a drop down menu of folder contents, it is showing the entry for a 64bit app, and can launch it ok, BUT that the icon is wrong/generic ?

i'm pretty sure that's what you are saying now.. yes?

Developer's Corner / Re: The Inversion of the Open Source - Big Corporation Divide?
« Last post by mouser on November 05, 2010, 08:42 PM »
first, thanks for the links, those are useful.

but actually i've been reading quite a lot of writing by and about richard stallman lately.

i stand by what i've said.  i'm not trying to use his words -- i was paraphrasing and trying to simplify the main gist -- i know he has problems with the term Open Source.

i think my point stand though.  Stallman is interested almost entirely in the first principle that users should be able to access and modify the source code of all software, period.  anything that aids that is good, anything that detracts from that is bad.  the point i was trying to make is that i find this a terribly incomplete *ethical* goal.  I'm much more interested in figuring out an ethical long term philosophy/culture of open source / free software that helps individual independent coders and artists to survive and thrive as well as maximize the freedom of users.

if your web server lets you run the php files from a commandline then it should work.
you say it can "find" the necesary MW files.. can you clarify if you are sure it can't fine them.. or if maybe the host is not letting them run?

Unfortunately Screenshot Captor does not yet support the ability to be translated; it's something i need to add.

Ok so just to clarify what you are saying:

1) if you ask LBC to display the contents of a folder in a menu, that has no problems.
2) but if you manually add a button to a LBC bar, and link to a shortcut, it doesn't show the button at all?

just so i fully understand, can you show me your LBC configuration screen where you have selected this button node and it's showing the details of it.

since i don't use norton i don't have an easy way to report to them that this is a false alarm -- can you and anyone else using norton please do so.
the mixtape maker download page is here if it helps: http://seedling.dcmembers.com/rmtm.html

(and it's an excellent program!)
15259
ps. we've had a long running rant against the irresponsible behavior of antivirus companies with regard to false positives; see in particular here.
15260
Ok so here's the virustotal report:

http://www.virustota...9805257e4-1288954986

This confirms that it is indeed a false positive and that there is no malware in the file.

Here's how you can be confident of that.  The scan of 43 engines shows 3 lower tier engines flag it with issues.  Of these three, two mark it as "suspicious" which is a term of art in the antivirus world meaning "we have no friggin idea what we are talking about but we don't want to get a lower score from a reviewer for missing something"; and the third company (ClamAv) is being a tad bit more honest, but exhibiting their stupidity, by identifying the "malware" as: "PUA.Packed.PECompact-1" which is basically complaining that the program is packed with a compressor called "PECompact" which is a highly reputable and excellent packing tool that has nothing to do with malware; they are basically saying -- we don't know how to scan inside this packed program so we are just going to throw up our hands and label this as dangerous.

hi nailzuk.

Thanks for the report -- i'm sure it's a false positive and just another case of a lazy antivirus company falsely labeling it.
I'm going to upload it now to one of the multi-engine scanners and i will post report, and then then contact Norton, and we will see how good they are at fixing false positives.

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR v2 - Official Bug Tracking and Feature Request Thread
« Last post by mouser on November 05, 2010, 05:54 AM »
Yes, i will add this.  it's a very good point.

May i suggest that you may want to install a program to handle this case of applications off screen if you frequently  unplug monitors.  In the past i've used i tiny old freeware called "Discover" but i can't locate it anymore.  It stays in tray and you double click it and it moves any windows that are currently offscreen back on screen.  there are surely other tools to do this -- probably one or two written by dc members that i'm not recalling at the moment  :P

Different strokes for different folks as they say!  I think Lanux touched on my general feeling about trying to be too smart about learning what they user intends in a non-transparent way -- in general i'm wary of things like this because i feel like predictability is really important.  But everyone has different styles.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Default alias for nircmd
« Last post by mouser on November 04, 2010, 05:30 PM »
also it might be FARRDIR instead of APPDIR.. i have been notoriously inconsistent with such things in some of my software (thankfully i have changed my ways since then but FARR still suffers from some of these inconsistencies).

anyway, glad you got it working!

ah yes that's it.. it may also work from the popup but only AFTER you close the popup saying you want to keep the image.. at least that's what it should do.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Default alias for nircmd
« Last post by mouser on November 04, 2010, 09:50 AM »
nothing "loser" about it.  i suspect that your problem is that you are using %ALIASDIR% to locate the nircmd.exe but your myaliases.alias is not in same directory as the nircmd subdir

so i think instead of:
OpenCD | %ALIASDIR%nircmd.exe cdrom d:
you would use:
OpenCD | %APPDIR%\AliasGroups\Installed\nircmd\nircmd.exe cdrom d:
or would it be
OpenCD | %APPDIR%AliasGroups\Installed\nircmd\nircmd.exe cdrom d:

something like that

Living Room / Re: I'm thinking about learning how to program.

decide how gentle an introduction you want.
then go to amazon.com and search for C# books, and look at the ratings and read the user reviews.

if you are already a programmer and are just new to C# you will want one kind of book; if you are completely new to programming you will want a different kind of book.

thanks sheyth,  i'll look into it.. probably something silly i'm doing wrong when forming the request or stripping the reply returned by google.

that was my bad :( this newsletter is two weeks late.  But i'll bet you if you contact the authors there is a good chance they would be willing to extend it to you.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: rule-based browser chooser
« Last post by mouser on November 03, 2010, 10:47 PM »
This is an idea i've been so tempted to work on.. though my main idea was regex matching on urls to decide which browser to open the url in.

The thing that has stopped me from implementing it is the "BrowserChooser" application, which is open source and seems to be a great foundation for adding such code.  So unless BrowserChooser is really flawed, i think the best way forward would be for someone to add these functions to that program.

Living Room / Re: Where have all the trackballs gone!
« Last post by mouser on November 03, 2010, 07:58 AM »
Every time I get going with it the scrolling ends up throwing me back to my Logitech G9. I think that scrolling - or lack of it, actually - has always been my bane with track balls.
has anyone ever made a two-trackball mouse?  one ball to control cursor, and another to control scrolling/panning?  seems like it might work pretty well, with one big ball and then a smaller ball right next to it, or mounted on the side for the thumb to use.  maybe something for an enterprising homebrewer?  surely someone has tried it..
