No it's free for the duration of the Jing project. How long that is not clear yet, but over 60 days.

I think it's mor of an exercise of making their Camtasia technology more accessible to the masses. It's not just screenshots, you can share video's as well. They're just trying to make camtasia effortless and fun by remove the editing and encoding options steps, and focus on quick sharing of motion/stills of your screen using their website. Jing's probably testing the waters for them to see if there's a market for it.

If you own camtasia you have the technology already and can use it with finer detail, however for the moment this is free (they state clearly on their frontpage: The project will eventually turn into something else) and after a couple of captures to me it could be useful as quick annotations too.

So basically, fun and easy, but does it have enough staying power both on my system and in availability.

No I can't test it out ('cos I can't get it to run on my system)
-Carol Haynes (July 18, 2007, 09:19 AM)

I received an e-mail back:
justice,

I think the error you've reported was fixed with our 1.2.4 release.
There was a bug that was causing us to crash on startup if your date
format was set to something besides US/English.

If you're willing to give it another try, you can download our new
version at:
http://www.jingproject.com

If that doesn't fix the problem, please let me know and hopefully we can
work through it.

« Last post by justice on July 20, 2007, 01:48 AM »
BTW on a sidenote are there hotkeys for cascade windows, tile horizontally/vertically?
I guess it would be used more that way. I suggest the requester is looking for GridMove or is an featurerequest for GridMove?

Find And Run Robot / Re: new launcher just released
« Last post by justice on July 18, 2007, 04:43 PM »
Seeing as FARR already saves recent launches, maybe it should be extended to recent alias searches too, so that when you invoke your recent alias, previous queries using that alias can be run faster.

I think what nitrix means is that when you type WOR and Microsoft Word is the first result then the query would be highlighted in bold so it would read Microsoft Word

Find And Run Robot / [mini bug] tab always adds space
« Last post by justice on July 18, 2007, 08:25 AM »
Minor bug but might as well report it  :-[ (am testing out camtasia screencasting hehe)
Pressing tab repeatedly will continuously add spaces to the input box.
See the attached file

no that's not needed. could you detect if the regex starts with static text instead of the variable text and then allow calling the static text?

For example if i had a regex alias starting wtih "loc ^(.)" then if farr could know it always started with "loc " then that would solve the problem. Honestly though if it's a lot of work then don't bother because it's probably not very important.

How to resize images for the web - The VSO free image resize software organizes your photos by shrinking their resolution or moving them within your hard drive. VSO Image resizer is the perfect tool for those who store their digital pictures and images on their PC and who want to resize, compress, convert, create copies, create thumbnails, import or organize photos.
With this free resize image software, you can create e-mail friendly versions of your images, load them faster, move them easily from folder to folder, change their format, edit large numbers of image files/batch image resize and thus save space on your hard drive. Using high resolution 1600x1200 for creating wallpaper or file-sharing you can save your memory. VSO Image Resizer can also change file names using a template and you can add your own watermark with transparency support.
VSO Image resizer is integrated into the Windows explorer shell, right click on your pictures and start working on your pictures !

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Requesting good alias files
« Last post by justice on July 18, 2007, 06:09 AM »
my nice nonconflicting alias file:

2 search aliases:
Loc <query> to use locate32 to locate files
!<query> to do a google UK Feelling lucky now search (first hit) - with icon :D

Probably the fastest way to find what you want from farr!! 8)

Actually I think it's perfect in build 133, the delay is not in the input box but only in the result view, which means in total the app is speedier. I guess it's similar to how browsers build up webpages, some wait till the page is complete, some build them up every so often, and really old ones show all the content jumping up and down  :)

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FarrUninstall plugin - v1.0
« Last post by justice on July 18, 2007, 04:44 AM »
another thing you might want to consider: use the farr results list as an view that shows all uninstallable entries instead of just the results you specified. Then you're turning it into an add/remove replacement because you can choose possbile programs for uninstalling instead of just initiating an uninstall.

Don't know if you want this and if this is possible though. I guess I see FARR heading beyond the visual commandline metaphor and more of a quick data entry / reporting software (input plugins for connections, services, add/remove programs and output in different views/reports below it).

It works fine on Vista, provided that UAC is switched off.
With UAC switched on, there's no way to get it working (although pt is running), even running as administrator and with compatibility settings it either doesn't see any processes, or sees it but can't change any priorities (admin/xp2 compatibility respectively).
