This is pretty cool, not going to lie. How do you afford to mail out these kits?

It's just a fun thing to do and it isn't very expensive.

To date i have sent out about 350 member kits to countries all over the world.. though not ever country, which is disappointing.
Usually i just put some approximate postage on them, occasionally they come back to me saying i need to add postage which i do.
The last international set i sent out required almost $2 in postage but usually i put about $1 on those, and so i might cut back on what i put in the international versions.  The cost for the printing and bookmarks and stuff is small since everything is low quality.

This might shed some additional light: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=9322.0

those are pictures of the cat yawning, i've got dozens of them and the cat is very happy to perform them on it's own without any encouragement from me.  :)

Screenshot Captor / Re: Can“t capture photo of an video with Screenshot captor

Hi Roberto,

See this thread for the answer: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3360.0

Basically capturing screens from video players is best done using a video player that knows how to take screenshots itself internally.

Well it was a brilliant suggestion but it didn't help.. Even after downloading the file from the internet using internet explorer, the behavior is the same.
15031
oh hell yes.
15032
thats a brilliant suggestion.

im not sure the actual style matters but this is what i envisioned as the ideal kind of look:

If you crave a symbolic and highly valuable* gift under your tree this december, don't forget that all supporting/honorary members of DonationCoder can request a free "Member Kit" that will be mailed out to any corner of the universe free of charge.

You can request it: here.

An updated image of the likely contents:

* By highly valuable of course i mean monetarily worthless and likely to cause friends and family to look upon you scornfully; also, the membership card may bring you good luck if you bring it with you to bars and pubs, preferably in the bottom of your shoe.

i think the PORTABLE=TRUE already forces the configuration directory to be in same directory as the app, so the CONFIGDIR line *should* be unnesc.

if you are trying to use FARR from a dropbox directory and having troubles.. why not first try it in a directory in your documents path, and see if that works first.  if so, then the problem has something to do with the dropbox setup and farr.

one brute force solution would be create a vmware virtual machine image that runs the key generator if it wont just run on any pc.. then you could run it virtually if you had to.

I posted this over at Stack Overflow as well, but maybe someone here has an idea:

I'm getting a very odd result when running an executable that has been digitally signed.

The executable was signed using signtool.exe using a proper level 2 code signing certificate (not self-generated).

Testing on a Windows 7 machine, if i launch the signed executable, I get the windows warning dialog saying Publisher Unknown (i.e. not signed).

However, if i then cancel and right-click on the executable and go to Properties -> Digital Signatures, the Signature list shows the signed certificate, which i can then click on and choose "Details" to view the details of the signature, which is shown as "The digital signature is OK".

At that point, if i launch the executable, now all of a sudden windows properly recognizes that the exectuable is signed and reports the correct "Verified Publisher".

It seems like maybe Windows wasn't checking the certificate online until i went to view the actual certificate details from the properties dialog of the executable (note that it wasn't just a delay after launching the executable, it doesnt matter how long i wait or how many times i launch it, it treats it as unsigned until i go into Properties / Digital signatures of the file).

This a generic Windows 7 install I use for testing -- it hasn't been modified or tweaked in any way.

This behavior seems to defeat the main purpose of code signing on Windows-- how can it be that the executable is treated as unsigned unless the user knows to go into the right-click properties and digs around for a certificate.

Is there something I'm missing? Some way to mark the executable as one that Windows should actively go check the certificate of when executed?

try making the first line of your ConfigDir.ini file:
PORTABLE=TRUE

it should then save all settings in the application directory -- assuming it has permission to do so (if it doesn't then your settings wont be saved).

i think the other thing to consider is that stability and reliability are the main reason we went with softlayer in the first place.. so i'd be hesitant to move anywhere other than a dedicated hosting company with a really good reputation.

I'd like to beg and plead that anyone who is a member of another site where a programmer or two might hang out, or is in contact with someone who is a member of such a site, or knows of such a site, PLEASE let them know about the NANY event and the end-of-year deadline.

The more participants the better!

hit cancel or continue a few times until it goes away, then go to options and launch history and see if you find a reference to that drive.

You know it occurs to me that someone at one of these providers should have enough foresight to think that hosting a DC server would be a good way to get a lot of very cheap very good publicity to a highly-targetted audience, and show a bit of support for a very active development community.

it's really true.. if i was better at these things i probably would have secured such a "sponsoring" for DC long ago.. it's one of the rare cases where we would probably be happy to take the sponsored hosting and be proud to let people know about the hosting company that provided it, ASSUMING the hosting was really top quality, and they were willing to make a long time commitment to us.

Besides, these guys are more than savvy enough that if they felt using blogs would have been helpful, they would have set them up already. So who am I to say?

lol which guys are we talking about?  i don't presume to know anymore than any of you about what's best -- so keep the suggestions coming!

Rover, can you explain a bit more about EC2 -- i couldn't really figure out what it was about from searching the web -- specifically how it relates to vmware.

Welcome hegearon!

Can you tell us a little bit more about why this solved your problem: "I needed it because I wanted to give my Windows 7 a new theme and because my video card can't handle Areo I had to do it by the hard way."

ps. your short description above has a typo; it says "search for the specified image in the specified image" but i think you meant "search for the specified color in the specified image"
