Well... And even if they worked, you need iTunes installed anyway. There's no such thing as what nontroppo comments for Windows (I'm surprised Apple made something like that)

As for other sources, check out the software recommended by f0dder and Dirhael, or if you're using Mp3tag, hit their forums, and specially this post and this other one to add support for downloading cover art from Amazon, Wal-Mart and Darktown (these ones are almost 1000x1000!). Some other threads have web sources from other less "legal" sites, but cover downloading fall by its nature in a bit of a grey area, anyway :)

The funny thing is those who were home taping in those years are the ones directing the companies pushing DRM down everyone's throat.

Or maybe they were the ones who refused to do it, got laughed off by the cool kids, and now they're taking their revenge ;D

http://video.google....-6438700334710473669 WOOT!

You know that some members around here bitch about printers not working in the 64-bit builds of Windows? That's the answer, driver writers have too much free time in their hands, and they prefer to do "play" classical compositions with laser printers instead of giving proper support under Windows for them... Oh, where is the corporate discipline these days...

;D

Yes, I have all those options activated (it comes like that by default), but as you see that's the outcome of the two searches.

Ooooops! Yes, the function keys launch items, my mistake :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: Shut Up About Vista, Already
« Last post by Lashiec on November 30, 2007, 02:45 PM »
I think Ryan's criticism is more directed to tech journalism and blogging, who, frankly, are getting quite tiresome with the Vista bashing. We know it has problems, we know XP is better, but stop carrying in your frontpage another horror story that happened in Vista Avenue. It's not only Ryan, but other people over the Internet are angry about this, it's as if overnight, tech sites turned into forums visited by angsty teenagers and complete jerks. Of course, they know that this creates traffic, so it would not stop in some time (case in point: the exo.blog, which is getting more coverage in the news that it should).

Besides that, what gets me even angrier is the total ignorance on part of these people. Not only they contradict themselves constantly, but they don't conduct a single bit of research, opting for spreading of misinformation regarding everything. DRM, Vista inflated piece, OS bugs... And writing shitty articles which get everything wrong. Maybe sports journalists are now writing tech news?

Vista is worse than expected? Yes, of course. Does it have problems? Surely. But, for the love of God, stop pestering me every day rehashing the same old stories again and again, proving that you don't have anything valuable to report in your site. Nothing worthful is going to come out of all this, and people will get Vista or XP despite what you say about them. One thing is chronicling your experience with Vista, which is fine, and a different one is beating a dead horse, turning a site into your soapbox only because you're angry with this OS or the other.

Find And Run Robot / [bug report] Some bugs I should have reported earlier
« Last post by Lashiec on November 29, 2007, 02:18 PM »
What the subject says. Let's get to it.

 1) Cosmetic bugs: In the "Preferences" dialog, "VIEW" -> "View" and "ConfigureToolbar" -> "Configure toolbar"

 2) Look what happens with those two searches:

Screenshot - 29_11_2007 , 20_54_20.png

The results lists scrolls to allow you to see all results.

Screenshot - 29_11_2007 , 20_55_10.png

This one does not, despite the high number of results. This seems to be the default behavior.

 3) There are some problems launching the various applets in Windows's control panel. "Keyboard" does nothing, and "Speech" gets badly detected, not showing any icon and launching "System Properties" instead of the intended one.

 4) "Run" command does not accept switches, like "firefox -safe-mode". It does nothing.

Two suggestions:

 1) Could you make the installation routine a bit more configurable? Like giving the option not to install the skins included with the program, unless you intend to remove all the skins from the installation pack in the future.

 2) I'd like to have F1 mapped to FARR's helpfile, right now, the key hides the window

That's all. If something else comes around, I'll make another post in this thread.

This is the strangest thing I ever seen in a Microsoft site:

Screenshot - 29_11_2007 , 20_14_57.png

And the coolest feature added to a BIOS. Scrap your voltage regulation, I want "Carmina Burana" when the computer is going to fry itself. And wouldn't be cool to play music in the background so the BSOD experience would be more pleasant?

Incidentally, I was reading Sunbelt blog yesterday, but I didn't take much of an issue with this discovery. Those rogue codec packages were more attractive :D

Living Room / Re: Seriously, wtf is going on with Apple's Mac vs. Pc ads?
« Last post by Lashiec on November 28, 2007, 12:07 PM »
Hackintosh is an interesting thing, and makes me raise a question I've been pondering since Apple moved to Intel. Why everyone wanted to run Windows in a Mac, and no one was interested in running Mac OS X in a PC? Weird, I told to myself when everyone was jumping with joy: "Oh, now we can run Windows in a Mac!". Perhaps this is the final proof that the greatest strength of a Windows PC is the software available for it?

Of course, it'd be nice if Apple made Mac OS X officially available for any kind of FrankenPC ;D, like say, we provide a cleaner and less hackyish way to run our OS in your PC, but WITHOUT any kind of support. I know it's not going to happen, but hell, why do you have to pay so many money to have hardware already available for much less, only to be officially able to run another OS?

Yes, for slick effects (not useful at all, but slick) Compiz and Beryl are the kings. Perhaps if Microsoft gave some API to manipulate Aero... Even Apple did something recently with Core Animation.
