Sounds strange, as those two places are the only ones I'm able to locate that has anything to do with the user agent in IE. That said, could there be some other software that's changing it? Not necessarily malware, but I know certain security suites like Norton does strip out certain parts of the information sent about your browser...and I wouldn't be surprised if others does this as well. What results did you get by visiting whatismyuseragent.com?

Thanks for the suggestion - apparently a number of people have reported this problem to the BBC and it seems to be related to automatic updates from patch Tuesday !!

It's not set on my system either, but I thought it could be worth a try. Oh and also, you could try visiting whatismyuseragent.com to see what your browser actually reports. It won't solve anything, but knowing what information gets sent about your user agent should at least let you know if the problem is on your side or not

They are working on it, but I still think we'll have to wait a while longer for it. I'm just guessing here, but perhaps it will be available with the release of the FF 3.0 compatible version? At least I hope so, because Piclens makes DeviantArt in particular a whole lot easier and faster to use

Perhaps this guide could be of help to you? If you're running XP just remember that the platform should be "Windows NT 5.1", or if you're on Vista "Windows NT 6.0", instead of 5.0

While it's probably not a good idea for me to post a link to it, the RTM of SP1 is all over the various bittorrent sites now. You can get it from other places as well though, and if you don't mind the slightly larger CAB file instead of the executable installer you can even get it straight from Microsoft's own servers (I haven't tested this cab file, but the KB number is correct so it should be the RTM build).

It would appear that the final build is now available as a .ISO download from Microsoft. It's a rather large download at 1.16 GB, but if you want to check it out you can grab it right now!

Hm, didn't even think about dbPoweramp, I do own a license but I only use it for ripping . If it can handle cue/wav input, I should take a look at it, though. But iirc it uses fraunhofer and not LAME for MP3 codec, ho humm.

I think I got foobar2000 to do what I want, though - I set single tracks formatting specifier to this: [%album artist%]\[%album artist% - ][{%date%}] %album%\[%tracknumber%] - [%title%] ... I would prefer straight brackets around %date%, but I dunno how to escape them

Surely he is also permitted to mention his problem here also, isn't he?  Seems like you're treating him roughly for even mentioning his issues.  After all, this IS a thread about file managers, and a lot of other users have posted about their problems with such here.

Sure he is, and I never once said he shouldn't/couldn't. I do think he should file a bug report in addition to compaining about it here though, because how is a product supposed to be improved if nobody mentions the problems they are having to the developer(s)?

In any case, what rubbed me the wrong way was that he came into the thread claiming that no other file manager mentioned here other than Windows Explorer and xplorer² does unicode properly, something which just isn't correct.

I'm located in Norway so non-unicode programs will default to Norwegian (which would be latin-1). None of the languages I mentioned (Japanese, Korean, Chinese ++) is included in this locale.

Isn't SpeedEdit part of the product, which by the way isn't free. If part of the product for which I would pay doesn't work, I do care. That's where I am going.

Sure it's part of the product, but it is not part of the file manager itself. Windows is in no way free, and it comes with a lousy picture manager, a sub-par file manager, a merely average browser, a useless defrag tool +++ but all that doesn't mean that the OS itself is useless, even though I actually paid for all of the things it includes. Why? Because none of the things I just mentioned really have any direct influence on the main purpose of an OS.

EDIT: Just to clarify though, I do think you should care about whether or not an included part of the product works just as you want it to seeing as you're paying for it, but in this case I don't see it as an important part of the program.

Anyway, if you encountered a problem, why not report the problem to the developer and see if they can fix it? I'm sure they will as long as someone actually let's them know about it.

I tried SpeedCommander. Right off the bat, SpeedEdit really has issues with non-Latin characters. Notepad can handle it. That seems to be the end of story for SC for me.

Strange how you appear to run into these issues, seeing as I just tested editing a textfile with Japanese and Korean characters in it after reading you post and I most certainly do not have any problems with it. Besides, even if there should be a problem with SpeedEdit, in what possible way does that tell you anything about the file manager itself? Sure, if you couldn't use Notepad from SpeedCommander I could somewhat understand it but seeing as you can...well, I just don't see where you're trying to go with this.

I was under the impression that the invalid code wasn't to be ignored and was to be 'fixed' by the browser to render a particular way so that less pages will break when a designer is careless and makes mistakes.

You know "urlwolf", I can understand certain feature requests and I certainly have quite a few of my own but some of the things you are ranting on about (especially the bookmarks thing) is just crazy-talk.
If they were to implement all of what you are asking, the browser I know and love would no longer be Opera but would rather have transformed into something different entirely. Personally, I really dislike the bookmark system/manager from Flock and to a lesser degree, Firefox and would hate to see Opera ruin something that works and works well. Besides, you seem to be missing the point about the "Opera Link" feature from the latest betas. It's not there to compete with del.icio.us, it's there mainly to allow you to sync bookmarks from your desktop browser to Opera on mobile devices.

Finally, complaining about something not working in a beta version is well...to quote their release blog:

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Having said that, Dopus seems to still have some issues with unicode, so xplorer2 is probably the only manager that's worth mentioning in my opinion.

Heh, not once have I encountered a problem with Dopus + unicode files (I haven't heard of anyone else with a problem either until you, now), and I deal with filenames almost daily in anything from Norwegian to Russian, Korean, Chinese and more. I also have a license for SpeedCommander 12, and I've never had a problem with that one either. In fact, I've encountered more problems with filenames and such in Explorer than I've ever had with either Dopus or SC12.

Unfortunately, they didn't manage to fix it then and I doubt they'll ever be able to unless they rethink the storage format. In my opinion, storing everything in a single file like this is usually a recipe for disaster and should be avoided at all cost. I just don't understand why they couldn't just store the emails as individual text files, or at least give you the option to. Sure you'd lose a little space due to cluster sizes etc., but with the average storage space people have available today I don't think anyone would really care, and the advantages more than outweigh this slight drawback.

Microsoft did in no way fix this problem with Outlook 2003, and I would strongly suggest anyone to keep their PST/OST files well below 2GB. I struggled enough with this problem back when I used to work on the internal tech support in HP to know that this problem is way to common in *any* Outlook version (well I don't know about 2007 since that was after I left, but I doubt they've done much with it).

Besides, as Carol already mentioned, large PST files will most definitely slow down Outlook. Also, can you imagine the amount of emails lost should this single huge PST file be deleted or corrupted beyond repair?

I have the context menu problem in DOpus 9 as well but completely the reverse of J-Mac's problem (which is odd). If I disable Windows Explorer entries from displaying in the DOpus context menu it takes up to 15 seconds for the Context Menu to appear. If I leave the default settings in place and have both appear, the context menu appears instanteously.

There IS a way to invoke the context menu in TC, Jim, and people keep posting to tell me how to do it... I keep forgetting, though  Drives me batty as well...

Actually, you can use Directory Opus to rotate images *and* keep the original modified date.

What you need is to use add "PRESERVEDATE" to the rotate command for your button/menu/whatever.

Example:

[Select]

Image ROTATE=90 HERE REPLACE PRESERVEDATE

The above command rotates the image 90°, replaces the original file instead of creating a copy, and it also preserves the original date/timestamp

Ok, to best illustrate what I'm talking about, take a look at the screenshots I've attached. The first image is the original image, the second from Firefox at 70% zoom, and the last one from Opera at the same zoom level. Take note of how jagged the edges of the zoomed FF image is compared to the other 2 (the images are just slightly different sizes as I just cropped out the surrounding area, but the zoom levels are the same).

Thank you  I've been "trying" to get used to the right CTRL key but it's almost impossible to type while holding it down (easier with the left one - must have something to do with the keyboard layout and the frequency of letters typed?). Anyway, it's a relief to know that I can use the caps key if necessary. You're right - it is the most convenient key from a usage perspective

Yeah, I've even tried remapping buttons with AHK to see if there was any other usable keys comfortable enough to use and oddly enough, there isn't really any. Or perhaps I should say that the SPACE key would have been perfect, if not for the fact that not having that key available leaves the keyboard unusable

By the way, if you type "co" you should get up a command called "command list", which will take you to a page with an explanation for all the available Enso commands for your installation. It's helpful at times. Also, if you intend to actually use Enso to launch programs, it's not a bad idea to remove all start-menu shortcuts to uninstallers etc., because if you don't you risk ending up with something like my attached screenshot...and let's face it, gambling on what program to uninstall isn't usually such a good idea

Thanks, Dirhael! Looks like we've got similar taste in software - I've purchased a LOT of the same applications as you!

I'm looking at Enso Humanized and wishing that they'd give me more options for triggering it. I resent HAVING to give over one of my keyboard keys to it. I c'mon - I actually use the caps lock key and would like to be able to use it while Enso is running. Ditto the left win key (don't have a right one) and all of the the other options. Disappointed, but will persevere.

As for your troubles with finding the right key, I had the same issue in the beginning (and still do sometimes). What I found was that out of "all" the alternatives, the CAPS key did indeed function best, mostly because I so rarely use it. Those times you actually do need it, there's an internal command for turning it on/off. Just press your trigger key, type "cap" (no need to type more) and your only two alternatives of commands should be "capslook off/on." It's not a perfect solution, but I much prefer it to loosing one of the CTRL or SHIFT keys
