Hi Zaine,

Do you mind if I nab your first post in this thread for an upcoming newsletter article? I'll give full credit and a link to DonationCoder as usual.

Hi again Twister,

Coincidence strikes again. I asked you that question for a reason. Earlier this week I saw ExplorerXP at one of the freeware sites I monitor. I bookmarked it because I wanted to try it sometime. As it stands now I can't use it. My PC is using WinME.

Do you mind if I publish your comments in next weeks CNNL?

Check out the review of CamStudio by my friend George. http://freewarewiki....x.php?wiki=CamStudio
Neither of us had trouble getting a copy. George actually emailed and got a response from the author.

CamStudio is free forever
George wrote to fill me in on the future plans that the author of CamStudio has for his great program.

... from Nick about CamStudio. The short version is that he intends to keep CamStudio freeware from this point onward.

Thanks George, I'm sure we are all happy to hear that. A special thanks to Nick. Keep on doing what you do best.

I am not sure if most people still use Windows Explorer, but I gave up on it some time ago. I found an app called ExplorerXP at http://www.explorerxp.com/ that is fast and free. I had found that regardless of my preference settings with Windows, some folders were still hidden by Windows Explorer. Not so with ExplorerXP. As the name implies, this app is only designed for Win XP/2000.

Just thought I would share one of the apps I find very usefull.

Hi Twister

What features do you like the most about ExplorerXP? Have you used other Explorer replacements in the past?

The review of AM-Deadlink was written by one of my readers. He wrote to recommend it to me and I convinced him that the best reviews are from people who use the program. He agreed and sent the review back to me.

so many sites lately that seem to be built on blog templates - and many of the designs are really nice.  Is this an option - using blogging software and templates to build a website?

I've seen some nice freeware for using the blog style. If you really like the blog style, I'd recommend you just start a blog at blogger.com and link to it when you need to, or point your new domain at it. The services at blogger are really great. My friend George has written up some help setting up a blog there.

He goes into great detail and his blog looks very nice as well.

Stick with NVU.

I know others who are new to web design and the feedback I've gotten from them tells me that this is the way to go. I have two friends already who've decided this tool works well for them.

There's nothing wrong with FrontPage, except for the price, LOL

If you ever run into a bug or have a problem, you can always visit the NVU forum.

Well, darn-it. I thought it was a free program. My fault.
That nixes a review in my newsletter.

I'd be happy to show off a review of any other free desktop search if you've got any around ...

Found some reviews of image hosting services:
http://www.free-webh...ee-image-hosting.php

That's a good site. I found it last year. They've also got reviews on free email services and free webhosting. I've checked out most of the image services there but I'm happy with the ones I mentioned above. Let me know when you've started a thread on them and I'll be happy to contribute.

You're very welcome to do that, Clif.  I have a paragraph I want to add to the text later.  You could p.m. me with an email address, and I'll let you have the completed text.

No need for a PM.  ;)

Hi all,

Carol and Mouser both just mentioned hosting pics.
I use the following free image hosting services and have never lost a pic. All three encourage hotlinking and even provide the code for direct links, indirect links, thumbnails, forum bbcode links, etc.
Arranged in order of the favorite to least favorite. Some are better at some things than others.

Photobucket http://www.photobucket.com
ImageShack http://imageshack.us
ImageCave http://www.imagecave.com

You would be happy with almost any one of them for posting in a forum.

I agree, excellent review. This is yet another one I'd like to host in an upcoming newsletter. Does that sound ok to you M_S?

It would be hosted at http://freewarewiki....ifsCurrentNewsletter and later filed in the archive.

You'd get full credit and a guest page if you want it. I'd also provide a link back to this forum.
Guest pages are usually a short bio or other information the guest reviewer wishes to share.

I've found lots of other uses for TUN, other than the obvious one it was designed for.

Now that is a tantalizing quote .... come on then you can't leave it there ;)

Clif...go nuts!

And thanks for wanting to use it.  :)

No, thank you for taking the time to share. I like your review because I can feel your excitement and pleasure with this application.

Here's the first draft (freeware only). Do you like the title, it can change. Also, note the red link. This goes to your page. It's usually a bio about the guest reviewer. Do you have websites or personal information you'd like to share here?

If you are watching Mouser, I'm not happy with what I've written on your bio page behind the DonationCoder link. Any suggestions?

Have fun!

See what bitrate your mp3 files are from their icons!
Free open source application. www.mutschler.de/mp3ext

Nice review and screenshots. I've used mp3ext many moons ago. I don't think they had the bitrate icon feature in it then.

Hello Nighted,

A most excellent review of a freeware application I've never seen.

May I present this as a "guest" review in an upcoming newsletter, let's say next week? It would be hosted at my FreewareWiki site. If you want to check out the newsletter, you can go to the LivingRoom  and see my post there.

Thanks,

Clif

I got Nirsoft's MyUninstaller and it's not bad. It really is quite handy, a nice little freeware app. I still prefer Your Uninstaller! 2004 but have not installed it yet since my system reset. I'll keep it that way for a while now, I believe. MyUninstaller + TU3 = DreamTeam :)

You have good tastes. I prefer the freeware versions of Total Uninstall. They are located at the Last Freeware Version website.

I've also recently updated an old review of it in my current newsletter. Which is posted in the LivingRoom forum here and at my wiki. I've found lots of other uses for TUN, other than the obvious one it was designed for.

Have fun!

General Software Discussion / Re: Why isn't there a vcard editor around???
« Last post by clif_notes on September 27, 2005, 12:46 AM »
Hi Trigger,

Good question. Here's a possible answer. A Vcard reader and writer is built into every Windows system that Microsoft makes.

What's it's name?
Windows Address Book

Trying going to [START] [RUN] and enter the command "wab" (without the quotes).
You should see the Windows Address Book.

Now, if you double click a vcard, it will pop up in a little window that's actually a part of WAB.  If you want you can add the vcard to your address book (WAB).

If you have an entry in your WAB and you want to turn it into a Vcard, just select the entry in your address book and go to File / Export / Vcard and you will be able to write it out to a vcf file.

Naturally, you can change any of the entries in your address book and add new ones. They can always be exported to a vcf file. Hence you can in essence, "edit" a vcf.

So, I'm guessing that's why nobody has ever bothered to make a stand-alone vcf creator that I'm aware of.  Almost every email client supports importing and exporting them, as you mentioned, and it's almost the same as "editing" them.

Have fun!

Clif
