N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Release: PDFInfoGUI
« Last post by bob99 on December 24, 2011, 09:42 PM »
How difficult would it be to add the ability of editing a couple of the fields in the "info  box"?  Title, Subject and Keywords.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything in the Xpdf package that would allow me to edit fields.

No problem.  It would just have saved a few extra clicks.
I can launch a selected PDF to bring it up in PDF-Xchange, click properties, make my change(s) and re-save.  Only thing is the change(s) do not show up in PDFInfoGUI until I close it, re-start and re-load the folder. Or selecting all, deleting and re-entering the folder again.  I understand why this is, though probably not in the correct  technical terms.

Would there be a way to refresh the list with the same folder to pick up the changes without closing and restarting PDFInfoGUI?  Or deleting all and re-entering the folder again?  Just trying to save some steps.

General Software Discussion / Re: Listary updated to Version:3.50 (Build 689)
« Last post by bob99 on December 23, 2011, 12:03 PM »

I bought and started using Listary Pro a few weeks ago and love it.  I emailed them with a couple of questions and Channing was very prompt with answers.

For those that haven't been to the site in a while there is now a forum/discussions under the support section.  I believe it started a few weeks ago.  There aren't many topics yet but I'm sure there will be over time.

Listary Disussions

Thought I'd pass it along.

I downloaded the zip from above and also from your web site.  Neither will extract. Pops up an error. Tried 7-zip and the windows extract.  Tried other zipped files, one was SnapDB, they extracted fine.

I couldn't figure out if I could attach anything in a PM and was going to attach an old test pdf here.
Let's see if I did it right???  At least I remembered it had to be zipped.

skwire,

I am really liking PDFInfoGUI.
Something I just noticed.  I am not seeing anything in the Page size, File size or PDF Version columns. If I launch one of the PDF's and go into Properties a file size is displayed.  But I don't see anything that has to do with page size or PDF Version (except Ghostscript). I have looked under the basic and advanced properties tab.

I'm using PDFXchange as my viewer. Deleted Adobe quite a while back.

Of the 3, the one I would like to be able to see is the File size.

Thanks again for a great utility/program.

Thanks Stephen.

Is or could there be a way to set a user defined window size when EasyNotes is started?

Not able to open anything either. Using Crtl+O or via the menu. Worked ok in the 1st version.

I should have mentioned above.  That is with Rockbox installed on my Clip+.

I like the way the SD card feature works.  The SD is accessed separate.  It's shows like a thumbdrive does on a PC.  It comes up on mine as 'microSD1'.  Much easier to access and use than my old different brand.

I use mine both with both ear buds and external computer speakers.  I've had a set of Creative's for a few years that the Clip+ sounds great on.  Decided to also get a another set of cheaper speakers for my workshop area.  Those are a set mfg by Sylvania.  Bought them at a local Big Lots discount store.  They don't sound quite as good but will do.

Mouser,

Thanks for the update.  I'm glad you were able to add the hide/un-hide delay.  This is really a help for me!

AllMyNotes will allow you to include links to web sites or local files.
Version 2.52 introduced drag and drop links from a file manager.  It has helped me with organizing my local files.  There is a free version, currently a 15% discount for pro on their website and it has also been featured on BitsDuJour from time to time.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Accessing the Comments Field
« Last post by bob99 on November 13, 2011, 09:05 PM »
I found them.
On the same line and before the typed comment phrase (or even if the comment field is blank) is [SCM]actwin,0,0,0,0;
Wondering what it means?  Tried a couple of web searches and haven't been able to come up with anything.

Thanks for the help!

I wonder if it might be useful to add a feature that would print out all images in the thumbnail panel, side by side with their comments, or something like that.

That is what I am looking for.  A way to obtain a list of the capture filename and any comments that were added in the comment field after the capture was taken.
For example...

      Filename                                             Comment Field
capture 1 - 11-13-11.png           This is a comment I've typed for screen capture 1
capture 2 - 11-13-11.png           This is a comment I've typed for screen capture 2
and so on...

Others may prefer an images and comments printout, I am just looking for is a listing of filename and comments.  (May be just as much work??)  I'd like to do it without launching a 3rd program to do it and lessening the number of programs open and key/mouse strokes per capture.  Having the list in text or csv format would be nice.  Or even Treepad format like Milesahead's programs above would be ok.

Another way of asking is, whenever I bring up an old capture where I've included a comment, the comment is still there.  Where and how is the comment stored and is it currently accessible?

Thanks

Screenshot Captor / Accessing the Comments Field
« Last post by bob99 on November 10, 2011, 04:52 PM »
I've searched a bit and didn't seem to find anything on this.
Is there any way of externally accessing the comments field in SC for each screen capture?  I would like to be able to do something similar to Milesahead's TipOff or Propertypage discussed here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=28529.0

After I've finished taking a series of captures I would like to be able to see/print a list of the screenshot filenames along with the comments that I type in SC.  Right now I'm trying Milesahead's programs along with SC but it's a lot more steps/mouse movement & clicks than I'd like.  ie: monitor the program I'm taking captures of, taking the capture, bring up TipOff or PropertyPage, select the comment tab, type the comment, save and go back and start over.  It gets to be a juggling act.

Or is there an easier way I'm not seeing?

Thanks,

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox 8 is out
« Last post by bob99 on November 09, 2011, 04:05 PM »
I've now told FF not to check for updates to FF.  Perhaps that instruction too will be ignored.

I also turned off the check for updates.  Fortunately it didn't auto-update on me.

I'm not too crazy for the "Check for Updates" in the Help/About window either.

Here's the initial screen:
FF5 1.png

Here's the screen after it checks for updates:
FF5 3.png

If a person is a bit quick on the draw with a click, are they applying the update before they know it?  :o

Does another screen come up asking for confirmation to apply the update?  Haven't tried it so I'm asking.
I'm used to, at least most, programs asking for a confirmation.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Panel Update Problem
« Last post by bob99 on November 08, 2011, 01:52 PM »
Thanks Mouser.  I'll watch for it.
Answers below may also provide some clue.

A few additional but interesting inquiries, to help nail the issue and possibly exclude external causes:
  • Where is the folder holding these screenshots located, on a disk connected through (e)SATA or on a network- or USB- connected disk?
  • Do the files appear with the same speed in Explorer, or does that also take some time?

These are being saved to my internal drive on laptop. NTFS.

Continued the test but also with XYPlorer window open to the same folder.  Each additional test capture showed up just after it was taken in the XYP folder.  Didn't appear in Screenshot panel until I did the swap with GoTo.

Update:
To make sure it wasn't XYP related, I tried the test using Windows Explorer with same results.

Question: How many screenshots do you have in your thumbnail panel?

In the folder I was testing when I posted there are now 28.  Re-testing as I write with a new empty folder.  The 1st capture displayed in the panel just fine.  The next 4, 20 to 30 seconds apart didn't display until I changed to a different folder and back again.  About 4 minutes later a new capture displayed fine.  This was the 1st new capture after the folder change.
Currently I'm up to 10 captures. Now 12.
Here's what it seems to be doing.  I go back and forth (using GoTo) between two folders until the last capture (or series of captures) taken is showing in the panel.  I go back and forth between the two folders once more and it will immediately (a second or so) display the new capture.  Each one after that starts backing up until I swap folders again plus one additional "clean" swap that I know will not show anything new.
Hope this makes sense.

EDIT:
I'm up to 20 captures in the test folder and now the "clean" swap no longer helps either.

Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Panel Update Problem
« Last post by bob99 on November 08, 2011, 11:02 AM »

I'm seeing a problem with the Screenshot panel not updating consistently after I have taken a screenshot.
Used to, the filename would immediately be displayed in the panel as a list or thumbnail depending on my setting.  Recently it is not being updated at the same time as the capture in the main window is shown.  It doesn't appear SC is missing the capture because if I exit and re-start they then appear in the panel.  Or if I change to a different path and then back using the GoTo folder menu.  I've tried this using the Stay Minimized and PopUp Choice Dialog settings. Exiting and re-starting SC each time I make a change.

Is anyone else seeing this?  Or could my machine be causing it for some reason?

Using SC v2.102.02 on XP Pro SP3.

Thanks,

LaunchBar Commander / Re: LBC Hotkey Question
« Last post by bob99 on October 31, 2011, 01:30 PM »

Did an additional "just in case" test by disabling XYP as being the default file manager.
Got the same results as above but with Windows Explorer popping up instead of XYP.
Wanted to make sure it wasn't an XYP induced problem.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: LBC Hotkey Question
« Last post by bob99 on October 31, 2011, 01:15 PM »

Misunderstood.  I had tried other combos BUT all had included Ctrl.
Here's a rundown of the last test:

ctrl/shft/j    folder + xyp
ctrl/alt/j      folder + xyp
shft/alt/j     folder only
shft/j          folder only
ctrl/j           folder + xyp
alt/j            folder only
ctrl/win/j     folder + xyp
alt/win/j      folder only
shft/win/j    folder only

Ctrl seems to be the problem.  I'll stay away from using ctrl as one of the hotkey combos.

Thanks,
