I just signed up for Xdrive, and I don't understand my confirmation e-mail:

Yes, I made this request and I want to reserve this email address as part of the AOL Screen Name Service

No, I did not make this request and I do not want my e-mail address registered with the AOL Screen Name Service

To learn more about AOL Screen Name Service, please visit the Screen Name Service Web site at http://my.screenname.aol.com.

Thank you,

Screen Name Service Team

So... Yeah. I DO want to confirm my e-mail address for Xdrive, but I don't want need an AOL Screen Name. Suggestions?

Deozaan, you now have an aol email account. As I do.
I don't use it, it just sits there with one message in it, the welcome message.

When signing into XDrive just use the screen name that you choose, as it says, and no need for the '@aol.com'.

After clicking 'Compose Mail', drag the internet icon from the address bar to the desktop.
Then you could put it in quick launch or whatever you use for quick access to web sites.

The compose mail page will come up blank. If you have certain people you mail all the time you could put that info in before dragging the icon to the desktop. Then it should come up with the info in it when clicked.

And it will open in a new tab, it does on mine anyway.

Well these folks have to come up with something to keep them having a job!

They were ready to make the 'exploit' public in their own way.
Funny, adobe knew about it.

i just read the fine print
here's part of it

7.4 Google: Gbridge is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Google Inc. Gbridge use your Google account for the purpose of authentication and connection to your friends only.

so it's not a google product

Apparently another google product surfaces.
Haven't tried it yet.
Some comments are interesting from freewaregenius.

http://www.freewareg...s-remote-pcs-easily/

http://www.gbridge.com/

It seems incomplete by the feedback, but I can't be sure.

I thought someone should put this target up!

It could be great or whatever.
Just cautious with this one that is new as well.

I wonder if there is a product that can monitor everything that these things do.
And print out every detail, every move it makes. I'm sure there is...somewhere.
A security product, but not from the same company as the programs monitored.

I didn't know you had the server space already urlwolf.

I like GoodSync for between my computers and I'm sure it would work.
It is about $30 for the pro version but it is loaded with features.
A one time charge for the program.
I bought it and don't really need it I like it so much.
Check out the trial and see if it meets your agenda.
I don't think there is a limit on how many sync jobs to create.
Any deleted files go to the respective computers recycle bin.
I think the features are very flexible with filters and exclude options.
As well as more that more experienced users would use.

http://www.goodsync.com/index.html

It may be too simple, I don't know.
Depends on the needs I reckon.
It sets in the tray works auto or manual.
And yes push one option from the tray and all sync jobs are performed for manual.
Might want to practice with test files for different scenarios.

http://www.adrive.com/

has been much better with 50 gb of free storage
fairly fast upload
no autosync though
can keep more then 1 copy of whatever with this much space
java or basic uploader available

http://www.xdrive.com/

5 gb of free storage with sync capabilities
desktop app is adobe air now
much better then the first program they had
or there is a web interface that works very good

http://www.syncplicity.com/

if you want to spend money this is instant syncing
home network or internet
it can be paused in an instant with it's tray app
keeps deleted files in it's own recycle bin
fastest i've seen, though i haven't seen a lot
2gb free, the rest is $
as a beta tester i got 4gb free
so i could be biased :)

Yeah, they took out the part about 'everything done in this browser is ours'. But did they take out the auto update without your knowledge or consent?

There is no way I know of to stop the update at this point because as soon as you start chrome it checks for updates. And updates then. As well as the stated 'every 5 hours' with that process still running whether chrome is running or not. Not informing of when or what the updates are either.

The chrome browser doesn't scare me any, it's just that these liberties they have included in the very first version without telling before releasing it smells of deceit.

And after it being discovered is when they talked about it, without saying much.

My son uses it on his laptop for the speed. I'm not concerned. It's just the way in which google is operating that raises a caution and be aware flag.

This is what I use when I have a lot running and need to choose one quickly.

http://www.ntwind.co...re/taskswitchxp.html

But this is for actual running programs that are 'up' on the screen rather then minimized.
I'm not sure if there is a setting to show -everything- running, including in the tray.

No this is about the latest beta and the first.
These tactics were more built into the first.
Obviously since it updated on it's own.

I don't think it is a 'fix' for anything especially since the second beta automatically updated itself without user intervention or knowledge.

It was already in the first beta and is now coming to light and attention.

Although I usually don't know what allowed updates are for various programs, including XP, it is polite to let you know.

If it's a beta product then it's beta users using it who need to know the changes I would think.

Hiding what the 'security updates' are what was said for security reasons.
Well then tell me if it's a security update or not?I have to say I don't buy it. They could add anything with a security update and still call it one.

This particular 'note' about Chrome didn't come into play untill the first update. I suspect it was in the program before the update though.
And this is what is annoying.
To spring this on you after you have already downloaded and installed Chrome.

And interesting still is another issue. Google's toolbar for Firefox updated itself automatically recently, with out asking, although it did inform me of the update, it didn't say what it was. And I can't remember agreeing to auto updates for that. I could have though.

And true, I have nothing to hide, but google can't just come in and rearrange my property at it's own will unless I say they can.

I would guess a security update would involve more then changing just the program Chrome but all the files in the OS that make it work.

So I suppose if one wants that kind of updating to have Chrome, then google has control over this browser.

"Users do not get a notification when they are updated...When there are security fixes, it's crucial that we update our users as quickly as possible in order to keep them safe. Thus, it's important for us to not require user intervention," the company said in a statement."There are some security fixes that we'll keep quiet because we don't want to disclose security vulnerabilities to attackers."

The automatic update policy applies to security and bug fixes. "For major version updates, when feature changes are involved, we'll explore options for providing users with more details about the changes," Google said.

Apparently this "decision" is going to happen after they are done 'exploring', but as of now it will update at will without notice.
I wonder how long that will continue?

Anyway I like Firefox better. It's better for me for now anyway.

Well if that's the way they want to play.
They should have sent invitations and explained all this first.
To qualified beta testers, or those willing to risk this agreement.

And personally I take it as a slap in the face.
Having used their products and services with full disclosure.

With it being marketed by many reliable sources, without disclosing this that Ehtyar has informed us of, is not right.

And puts those who put Chrome on their sites to download in a bad position and I would suggest class action until they release the control of the end user's computer. And disclose their intent fully.

I have it on one computer and the 'googleupdate' process can be killed while the browser is running but not 'chrome.exe' without killinng the browser.

And when the browser is not running, 'googleupdate' continues to run, but can be killed via taskmanager or processexplorer.

Regardless, this is disclosing what they will not tell you after the release of this product.

My main question is WHY!

Our work computers are locked down pretty tight.
Can't get much, although there are ways around things.
But this would get you fired most likely.

It's happened more then once and they are very serious about it.
They can pick up on your activities and print out each click and keystroke for at least the past 30 days.

Usually alerted by a virus alert that the Tech Department will pick up from any computer or laptop on the system.

Microsoft's Photo Story 3 may do it for you.
It has the ability for sound of different flavors.
Free also-

But for organizing, Picasa is the fast and can organize in a few ways.
Plus the rest of the ones mentioned in mouser's link are worth a look.

General Software Discussion / Online Services
« Last post by cmpm on September 08, 2008, 02:19 AM »
What have you found to be the most useful and/or interesting online service?

ThinkFree Office has been very interesting as a word processor as well as a few additions.

It's a bit different then other online office sites in that you can download the office suite to your desktop and work independent of the online service. And even offline you can work on documents, keeping a copy on your computer as well as online of all your documents.

It has only 1gb of storage for documents and syncs with the desktop application.

But anyway, I have quite a few online services bookmarked, but this one stood out as different though MS Office has an online deal I haven't tried.

ThinkFree Office is free.

Interesting to note the IE7 promoted Google with the google search box built into IE7. Providing and making known it's capabilities to those who didn't use it before.

And I think zridling may be right about Chrome targeting handheld pc's and communication equipment. But we will see what Blackberry and the rest do with it.

I also wonder if anyone has actually broke into Chrome with it's security. As that is the big drawback with those who know the engine. It could have been modified. I don't know.

I find it very interesting that Google's toolbar is not built into Chrome. Which is the leading software next to it's search engine. Leading me to think there are other plans in the works for that software.

In other words, this could be a step into the direction of a Google Operating System.

It's Tuesday and still nothing. no download yet of this browser.
I've heard now it's going to be Wednesday.

Unless some knows of a link to download it.

So I guess you don't like the ones I posted.
lol...

Well. someone might come up with something,
hey, it could happen!

I'd think you would have to use Foxmarks to sync your bookmarks.
Then go to your Foxmarks web site where all your links are and work with them from there.
Of course you need Firefox also which I guess you have.

Would the addon, 'Download Them All', work?

Or you can use a download manager and the addon 'Copy all Links'.

Copy and paste them into the manager, which ever one is built into Firefox, and there are a few. Which one to choose would depend on it's options that you need.

Well!, I figured I could move the Firefox window to a second monitor and the text area could be used and resized on the main monitor.

And the main reason for this post is another addon, posted today on my reader, for the posting text area that can save the text should you accidentally move to another page in the same tab or other reasons..........

https://addons.mozil...S/firefox/addon/5761

I'm still testing it to see how dependable it is.
