« Last post by mouser on January 15, 2011, 05:32 PM »
Ok still waiting for the dif icons, but i have now given everyone their proper years.

You can see the lists broken up by year now here:
https://www.donation...10,nany2011,nany2012

NOTE:
It's almost certain that i missed a couple of year entries for people.  So if you released something in a NANY year that you aren't listed for, please let me know! (send me a pm) and i will get it fixed right away.

If the year went where the 01 now is, you would actually be able to read the year.
yes that is exactly what we will be doing -- and coloring each year differently.

Looks like we have a case here of there being some useful issues to talk about (how to deal with passwords in such programs) -- but being raised in a less than ideally helpful manner..  Let's try to remember that we are trying to be helpful to each other here not to score debating points.  And yeah, we all need to keep our sense of humour or we'll never survive :)

hmm -- i am seeing this error more frequently in the server log.

i'd like to figure out why it might be happening.. any clues?

so i think maybe there is a consensus that we shouldnt have just one nany badge, but a separate badge for each year of nany..
so let me see if hamradio is willing to modify his icon to show the YEAR as the number (07,08,09,10,11) and get those in place.

Living Room / Gizmo Puts Out The Call For Freeware Reviewers
« Last post by mouser on January 14, 2011, 08:07 AM »
Most of you here know and love Gizmo's Freeware site (TechSupportAlertNews), one of the best freeware sites out there.

Screenshot - 1_14_2011 , 8_07_12 AM_thumb.png

Gizmo has been a *great* friend to DC, and many of our forum members even discovered us from reading about something on that site!

Well Gizmo's is a completely volunteer community, and I've received word from Gizmo that they are having a little trouble at the moment recruiting enough volunteers to keep the site going. What they need is more people to manage review sections.

Since we have some serious software reviewer types here on DC, Gizmo asked if I would help him put out the call on DC for anyone who might be willing to help them do reviews and be section editors.

Gizmo says:
There are a lot of different software categories than need editors at the moment but these are the one of greatest need:
  • Best Free Adware-Spyware-Scumware Remover
  • Best Free Disk De-fragmenter
  • Best Free Program Un-installer
  • Best Free Drive Imaging Program
  • Best Free Portable Apps
And if none of these interest you then you can see a full list here: http://www.techsuppo...lert.com/unallocated

You can help by selecting a category to review and then letting them know here: http://www.techsuppo...ecome-a-reviewer.htm

According to Gizmo you should allow about two hours a month as a volunteer reviewer.

Gizmo is one of those those treasures of the web -- if you've been itching to get more serious about doing reviews, this would be a great thing to try -- and you could share your reviews with us too, so everybody benefits.

yeah actually wasn't the idea originally that the giveaways would be for the volunteers, but we just didn't have many volunteers (or perhaps we didnt need them).

I can only advise not to go for Axiallis.

Weird.  I love axialis icon workshop -- really excellent product if you ask me.

DC member HamRadio actually did a review/comparison of it a while ago, see: https://www.donation.../IconTools/index.php

Optimizing for NANY entrants is in effect penalizing those that did not enter which is somewhat contrary to the philosophy(?) of the site, isn't it?

i don't think so -- i think it's fair to have some bias towards people who have contributed to the site in important ways, and participating in nany is one of those ways.  actually my view was to have this january giveaway be exclusively for nany participants.. but i was overuled :)

I think it's NANY bringing in the new members, and i'm thrilled to see it!

It really is fun when we have new people joining and posting on the forum -- we need some new voices to keep us all from falling into our respective ruts!

Welcome to all our new members

And don't be shy about posting -- we are a friendly little family here, and everyone is welcome -- you don't have to be an expert on anything to join our discussions, just bring some good spirit and jump right in!

ps. there are some nice threads at the top of this forum section, and they are a great way to introduce yourself.
