"IP68 rating - resistant to dust, rain and splashing"

I'll stick with my Apple watch. Need more water proofing than IP68.

Apple watch was IPX7 for the longest.

Your Apple Watch is water resistant, but not waterproof.*

From https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205000

The latest versions are finally waterproof, but just figured the clarification was needed.

I'm sure it will get there.  The Stratos (which is still less expensive, and what I'd think would be compared to an Apple watch) in contrast is waterproof.  It's just a matter of getting what you need, I think.

You might want to get your site checked out- it's registering as a dangerous site with Malwarebytes, and a few others.

I now have a AmazFit BIP - GPS, barometer, compass, accelerometer, notifications, heart rate, steps, transflective display, etc ... and a 30+ day battery life.

For ~US$60 I paid, I don't think there's anything comparable with the same features especially the battery life.

It's back on Massdrop, so I'm thinking about it again... just posting here in case anyone is interested.

General Software Discussion / Humble Bundle for Xara tools

We'd been talking about Affinity Publisher vs Adobe Indesign, and now Humble Bundle comes along to throw another entry into the ring.

https://www.humblebu...tive-design-software

For $25, you get a lot of software- but I'm most interested in Xara Designer Pro X.  Has anyone used it?  I've looked at a couple of comparisons and reviews, but nothing beats that hands-on review from a non-reviewer.  At $25, it's hard to lose out getting it, but I was just wondering if anyone had experience with it.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Comparative Review of Writers' Tools (INITIAL DRAFT)

I assumed data capture (screen, web page or file - especially the first two); hadn't considered the other option. But you are right, the question was all about constructing the manuscript.

What made me think that might be the case was the inclusion of RTF.  I'm thinking he means like Scrivener or Atomic Scribbler's binders.

When you say capture, do you mean screen-capture?  Or just contain it within the manuscript structure?

There is a convoluted work around to enable the hidden admin account - you can then login as admin and reset local passwords on other users. I have used this method to help clients but don't want to publish the details here - though a quick google search will help ;-)

Not sure there is a solution if you use an MS account to login other than their password reset tools online.

This is actually the reason that I switched to using MS accounts at home- there's an alternative for resetting.

Looks promising!  I'll be on the lookout for this entry...

So maybe https://www.google.com/?q=solitaire + the one that app103 gave above.  Can't you block specific urls in the K9 Web Protection?  You can also block that div in ublock/ublock origin.  From trying it, it looks like you'll have to choose the element picker (the eyedropper) and mouse over the Click to Play, and click it.  Then click create.  Then you'll have to do the same for the image above, and then with the element left behind after that (the empty white square).  That's seems like enough.

UPDATE: I tested it with a refresh.  It appears to come back after refresh, even though the URLs are the same.  There must be some minor difference.  I'd suggest adding those two urls to your K9 and seeing if that is enough.
1435
You could add the urls to a block list from one of the many extensions that let you block time-wasting sites.

https://www.google.c...olitaire&clb=clb

 https://www.google.c...p;espv=2#q=solitaire

But that won't block it totally, as you can just search for it.

It appears that the trigger is based on the following div:

<div class="mhPjTc">Click to Play</div>

You could block that div in your adblocker.

A NoSql Variant could be MongoDB. It can be used by many programming Languages.
Hm, but it doesn't quite match the OP's requirements of being lightweight, simple and portable, AFAICS.
In one of my applications i've included a few lines php, more not needed to interact with mDB, MongoDB works over Cloud, how much more portabilty exists? Anyway, OP goes SQLite, so thread is done i guess  :D

Best wishes! (i did not wanted to tell that sql is bad, no misunderstanding please, i just wanted to give another option a slight chance of being known.)

Portable usually means that the software can be used anywhere, without needing anything external to the reference.  If you're in a location with no internet, or with internet but the address you're accessing your db behind blocked, you're sort of out of luck with a cloud-based solution.

They suggest exporting to PDF and then importing
I see that. I'll play around with some files and see how that flies. A three-cornered process is quite a stumbling block for me though.

The trouble with subscription services is that when the subscription ends you have no software. Adobe Creative Suites were expensive but the software lasts until advances in the field become 'must haves' and overwhelm the lack of updates. Having subscribed to Photoshop I've now dropped it and returned to my CS6 version - no problem for me, so far.
-cranioscopical (August 31, 2018, 10:56 AM)

I've come to view it differently with things that are used for professional work.  That's an accepted expense for me for work.  Paying monthly, even if it's more expensive in the long run helps with the idea of a large expense coming when you don't expect it.  I just budget for it.  I'd prefer something like Jetbrains where after a certain amount of time subbing you get a perpetual license for whatever version of the software you're running if you have to quit your subscription.  But it's worked out for me so far.

Also, I use this to manage my DBs.

I hope that it's going to read InDesign files, it can't right now.
-cranioscopical (August 30, 2018, 08:22 PM)

I don't think that the old ones did.  It's also one of the reasons that I think that I'm going to end up just going with a subscription.  It doesn't even support PagePlus files right now.  They suggest exporting to PDF and then importing.  It's been reported to work fine, but I'm skeptical.

UPDATE: Looking on the forums, Chris_K from Affinity affirms "It's not possible yet, plans to be able to in the future".  Now, what comes of that is to be seen.

He also says when asked about a timeline, "I can't give any timelines for this. It's being worked and will be in an update when it is considered working and relatively stable. But I would be talking more than a few weeks in not months, It's not a simple thing to just implement."

But, reading on, more troubling is this response from him to someone else, "We will not be able to import indesign files on initial release but it is something we are looking to do in the future. For the print optoins my best advice is to go and explore what options we have available already and see if they suit your needs, they are all contained within our print dialog"

What does on release mean? On commercial release?  Or is he just talking about the beta?  Hmmm....

SQLite has been the go-to for that kind of database, though I utilized VistaDB (though got that for free from a review- it's actually a bit pricey).

I downloaded it.  It wasn't too large... 270.67MB.  I figured it's my last resort before getting a sub to indesign as I've reached the point that I need it.

Please only report your findings after you have tried the software, messages like above are completely useless.

(Yes, I'm trying to teach you something, in case you wonder, a form of forum etiquette: give relevant information, avoid dis-information)

I view it as a thank you, and don't personally find anything wrong with it.  I see it in several cases in several ways, i.e. thanks for the information!

If I'm not alone, why does the world prefer to write horrible software?

Because it's paid for by companies that only care about the bottom line?

20MB these days is literally nothing...

The Web is still a DARPA weapon (and other stuff)

DARPA.png
A visualization of all of the root servers, and the countries that control them

I went into this admittedly skeptical.  I just saw the title, and it was a free article (the only kind I read on Medium) and decided to read it.  He makes a convincing case.  The title is only a part of the article; he goes into other parts of history and the problem until finally settling on his point at the end:

Seriously, WebAssembly is the worst idea since JavaScript in browsers.
Not only because it’s a binary blob served by foreign companies but run on your PC, under the law of your country, but because they know you, your relations, your interests, and will “customize” that blob.

Even if implemented perfectly, without a single security issue, it’s a weapon.

You might object that JavaScript is already a weapon ready to fire on every PC and every smartphone out there. A weapon that constitutes a threat to free speech even if we ignore the power of Google and friends.

And you would be right.
JavaScript is a dangerous weapon that should be disarmed.

I cannot really understand how European states let this happen.

I’d like to think they were bribed, but the sad truth is that they do not understand the matter. Not even a little bit.

But developers do!
It’s time for developers to fix this mess.

Though it seems somewhat that he was burying the lede, the information is actually really interesting, and the point well is taken, so I forgave the article for it.

This year I begin to teach Stadistic. Next year I want to teach to informatic engineers the first course of mathematics and so on the next years.
I would like to know and share good links in english basically for this purpose.
Best Regards

Do you know a good one ?

What ones do you already know?  Surely you googled or binged or whatever first, right?

I used to go to more formally organized ones.  I haven't been since Digital Overload (https://cad-comic.co...rload-tournaments-2/) closed up shop.  I used to go to one that was held at dragon*con too, but after they got larger, it was more corporate sponsored (read not-BYOC) instead of grassroots.  PAX East does seem to have a place for BYOC, so I was thinking about trying there, but more likely to go to PAX unplugged.

Hello, i am using Products from https://www.malwarebytes.com/ and dont think it is bad. Since Shades did not mention it, it might be bad?

That's what the OP said he was using.  Many people are using that on this board, and I personally think it's a good product.
