Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Regex Sorter

When i saw request i had same exact thoughts as timns (clever hobbit!) -- to let people specify how to extract the sort criteria using a regex.  Very smart.  I may steal this idea and put it in my Clipboard Help+Spell sorting options as well.

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 16 - Happy Birthdays
« Last post by mouser on March 16, 2011, 03:52 PM »
It's Day 16 of the Fundraiser, and to commemorate our 6th anniversary birthday, DC member skwire has released a fun little utility to help you keep track of the birthdays of friends and families, and whether you've sent them a card/gift yet.  It's one of those clever little single-purpose utilities that hits the spot and fills a need.

Read more, download, and discuss "Birthdays": here.

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 15 - The Half-way Point
« Last post by mouser on March 16, 2011, 12:54 AM »
Ok fundraiser Day 15, the half-way point.. We sprinted for the first leg of the marathon and now we're just going to walk out the cramps until we get our breath back.  Well at least speaking for myself I got socked with some other work and have just caught up and gotten clear to return to DC coding.. So expect some more updates from me this week.

Meanwhile, DC member Timns, was nice enough to write us a mini-review, of a very attractive looking desktop clock software; you can read it here.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Clipboard size limit
« Last post by mouser on March 15, 2011, 01:51 PM »
if you store them in file then would you be able to use the search feature
no you would not, that would be the tradeoff to be paid for storing 10mb text clips :)

Regarding clip menu title size i thought it was Maximum Implicit Title Size but that must be something different; i will add option to set length limit for menu excerpt.

Maybe what Ath means is that next year you and your son should work on a program entry together as a team for NANY 2012, and then you can pose with both of you holding your own mugs  :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: How to exclude url link shortcuts?
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2011, 01:09 PM »
hmm.. well this is an interesting point.. i do resolve shortcuts for some purposes.. let me look back into this and refresh my memory about whether FARR will score based on resolved filename, and if so, how one would adjust score based on resolving to a url..
13965
Hmm... something must be wrong, there is no reason FARR wouldn't see the plugins directory.  Something else must be going on like you thinking they should be in one place and FARR looking in another.  If you go to plugins list in options you don't see them?

Here is one thing simple: Many people think FARR comes with a ton of plugins because the Plugins directory has these subdirectories for them -- but these are just placeholders and the plugins aren't installed until you tell the updater to grab them.

yeah if there is nothing special about them from their filenames (like .com in filename or .url in extension or something) then you aren't going to be able to tell farr to filter them out en masse.

I used the Pro version ($99).

There is a good comparison page here, where you'll see that there isn't that much difference between the pro and architect edition that is relevant for home users: http://www.ideaspect...m.com/comparison.php

It may be a long time still before we get our page rank back, or not -- only google knows and they don't tell us lowly mortals what they do or why.

But at least the urls are gradually being picked up from the sitemap, and new threads seem to be indexed very quickly now, within hours, so that's the really important thing.  (when and whether google actually ranks our results high on the page i do not know).

PageRank can go F* itself.

One of the reasons we are having a fundraiser is to pay for our high hosting costs.  One of the reasons we have high hosting costs is because we have a nice powerful server that can host member sites.  People are donating so we can do this -- that's what it's there for.  A blog, especially one thats not super popular, is almost no drain on a webserver at all, so it's not a big deal.

Having said that, as app has pointed out, there are tons of good free blogging platforms that are just as good.  Up to you!

Welcome to the site vovabob, and glad you are trying LBC.

Ok, i guess it's time i added this -- i'll try to release a new version this week with configurable global hotkey to bring up LBC configuration window.

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 13 - Another MiniReview
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2011, 12:20 AM »
It's day 13 of the fundraiser, and we've cracked the $9,000 mark! Thank you to those who have donated for the first time, and for those who continue to make repeated donations at every fundraiser.  At the current rate, we should meet our secondary $10,000 goal before the end of the month.  How soon we reach it will determine if we should extend it once again.

As you know, we've pledged to release something new on the site each day during the fundraiser; today I've posted a mini-review of Realtime Landscaping, a really nice and fun tool for doing some pretty sophisticated landscaping design and visualization.

Tomorrow I think we will send out a special edition mid-month newsletter.

Intro:

Realtime Landscaping is a software program for helping you design and visualize landscaping ideas.  It's used mainly to plan walkways, fences, flower beds, and other outdoor structures.

While it has some support for 3d building model constructions, it's not meant to do interior modeling, and cannot support the kinds of detailing building architectures that the serious building modeling tools can (like Chief Architect).  However it does excel at letting you super rapidly sketch and render quite complex outdoor landscaping plans, and the 3d walkthrough rendering is quite pleasing.

pro19.jpg pro_inter2.jpg

Who is this app designed for:

Amateur-to-mid-level landscapers and adventurous homeowners.  This is not a child's toy -- it is very easy to use but it is a serious tool that will let you create some very detailed and advanced designs.

The Good

Extremely intuitive and fun to use.  Serious editing features.  Nice attention to details.  Lots of variety in objects and structures and surfaces.  I found the fence building layout too especially nicely done.  Surprisingly good support for modeling ground level building architecture to help visualize landscape around building.  Support for graded land.  Support for various pool styles.

The needs improvement section

The walkthrough mode could be a bit better; a photo-realistic raytracing rendering mode would be excellent.  Ironically, the features for rendering flowers and different plants looks very useful from the interface side of things, but i found it not very pleasant in terms of final rendered design -- I think that's less a software issue than just the difficult challenge of rendering so many different plants and flowers.  But if you are mostly interested in seeing how different flower arrangements would look, this program may not help you too much.

Why I think you should use this product

If you are interested in doing landscaping work on your property -- or are just curious about how certain changes would look, this is a fantastic tool.  Expect to put in some work into learning how to use the software -- like other similar tools and architecture tools, this is basically a simplified Computer-Aided-Drafting (cad) tool, which can involve a learning curve if you have no experience with the concept.  But it makes doing simple things simple, and complex things possible.

I used it to design some alternatives for a back yard for the condominium building I live in; it was so wonderful to be able to visualize different possibilities, different layouts, different tile materials and fence layouts.  Really invaluable when it came time to showing other people some potential options.

How does it compare to similar apps

I'm sorry to say I don't remember the other programs I evaluated before i purchased Realtime Landscaping a year ago -- but I did try every similar app i could find, and none held a candle to Realtime Landscaping in the price range.

Conclusions

This is one of those programs that produces valuable results, and is a pleasure to use.  If you are curious about exploring landscaping ideas on your property, you owe it to yourself to try this software.

is there a way to make the preview of the clip shorter than 100 chars for longer clips?

Should be on the Quick Paste Pop-up Menu options tab.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Clipboard size limit

ah yes i know your problem -- it has nothing to do with 50 it has to do with the additional date/time cutoff in the sql for the quick paste group.

Right-click on the Quick Paste group and edit it and modify the SQL for the virtual folder.  by default it's: "NOT (IsInRecyleBin) AND (ModificationDateTime>=DateTimeMinusOneHour)"
if you change that to just "NOT (IsInRecyleBin)" you might see what you want.
