We can discuss some of the more unusual items on this thread if people have any questions.

One thing to mention is the Optimus Maximus keyboard is an amazing thing -- but it's probably not well suited for an everyday keyboard -- so i think we should probably try to put it in someone's hands that has a special use for it.  also i'm told that one of the customizable keys (the PrtScr key) may not light up.

The coding hours prizes -- im volunteering some time and so is skwire; if other people are willing to volunteer time as well we will pick more winners.  We will choose ideas that are within our areas of expertise and that we think we can make a useful contribution to.  The code will be for the winner to do with as they please -- though we may give precedence to people who plan to share it freely.

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 28 - The Giveaway Opens!
« Last post by mouser on March 28, 2011, 11:31 PM »
Day 28 of the fundraiser and it really seems like we could reach $12,000 by the time the fundraiser closes at the end of March -- that would be incredible -- and double what we were originally aiming for.

The big announcement for today is that we have posted the fundraiser giveaway entry form -- which is now open to all supporting/donating DC members.

There is an eclectic assortment of items being given away -- from the super valuable Optimus Maximum keyboard and custom programming time devoted to a project idea of your own invention, to software and unusual and rare DC memorabilia.

All winners are now being notified by email to their forum email address.  If you haven't received an email but your name is listed above, check spam filters and forum email address, and then mail [email protected] and let us know you never got any mail.  It can take a few days for companies to send you your serial number; if a few days pass and you haven't received it - send a reminder to the company email as noted in your winning notification email, or to us by replying to the email you received or to us directly.

Note: We give away things a little unusually here on DC -- we ask that people rate the items in terms of how much they want each one, and then use an optimization tool to try to assign them to maximize happiness.  For this drawing we are also going to be a little bit manually selective for certain prizes such as the $1000+ Optimus Maximum keyboard and the Coding Hours prizes, to try to put them in the hands of people who have the best use for them -- so do fill out the comments area if you are interested in winning these.

A huge thanks to those people and companies who donated stuff for us to give away and volunteered their time.  A special thanks to DC member cthorpe for rounding up so many of these!

Congratulations to everyone who won! (remember those who didnt will have a better chance of winning in the next giveaway).

Is there a reason why you don't put the source on one of the better-known online open source repositories? Github, Bitbucket.org, SourceForge, code.google.com, etc.?

i'm a believer in the idea that there should be one official home for things.. and since my home is on dc, that's where this lives.

Also, what license is the source for PythonProtoCards released under?

You've caught me -- i don't know yet, i need to figure out what open source license fits best.

Living Room / Re: The Official DonationCoder.com card game: CodyCards
« Last post by mouser on March 28, 2011, 10:35 PM »
So, looking at the deck, it seems like you could play this game with an ordinary deck of cards. Cody and his Uncle take the place of the Jokers. Is that right?

yes, you could.  if you dared to anger Cody by doing so.  :P

though one advantage of using the CodyCards is that you can make up your own fun house rules using the pictures.. and it's also a lot funner to use these cards.

ps.
if anyone wants to print their own, you can download my PythonProtoCards download and generate the pdf pages and print them out on these cards:

« Last post by mouser on March 28, 2011, 10:27 PM »
I want to start a new thread for discussion of CodyCards, the new official card game of DonationCoder.com (because i say it is!).

It was made using my open source PythonProtoCards library for rapidly prototyping card games.

I am having a few decks of it professional printed and they will be given away on special occasions.

Confused and overwhelmed, but in a fun way -- like watching a bunch of science fiction planet of the apes monkeys playing 10 dimensional chess.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Error EX4: DBISAM Engine Error #11013
« Last post by mouser on March 28, 2011, 11:39 AM »
the consensus seems to be that this is caused by interference with the database engine temporary files by an antivirus program.

what operating system and antivirus program do you guys use?

(could also be caused by realtime backup software?)

a solution might be to exclude the database directory from scanning or move it.

now, if the database file has in fact been corrupted by this, you will have to exit CHS and delete the CHS\database files and restart.  these files are in the my documents\donationcoder\chs\database directory on windows vista/win7 or in the program files\chs directory on winxp.
13861
this looks like the same error posted in this thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25938.0

and the consensus about dbisam database seems to be that this happens when an antivirus program interferes with the database file management.

i'm going to close this thread and suggest we discuss on that other thread above so there is only one place to discuss this error -- see you there.

worstje got me hooked on watching these games -- i just think it's so cool that video games have evolved to a point where people now watch games and give commentary of the unfolding gameplay.. very cool stuff -- though be prepared to be absolutely confused beyond belief.

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 27 - Skwire Strikes Again
« Last post by mouser on March 27, 2011, 05:00 PM »
Day 27 of the fundraiser and we just crossed the $11k raised mark! Woot!

For today, dc member skwire released another app: SFV Ninja, a tool for checking sfv files.

Tomorrow we should have details on the end-of-fundraiser giveaway, so get your itchy fingers ready to enter to win something good!
13867
the one ff4 addon i really miss is "submit-to-tab"
13868
On specific Folders that I have text files, I would like to have the option to search the content of the file as well. (maybe with a keyword modifier). Example: When searching "Fight Club" I would like to get the result :"C:\my .txt\My Movies.txt

While FARR does not as a rule do searching in files, you can do this using two different techniques in farr i think.

The first is to use a plugin, table data search, in czb's pack: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=17153.0 (table data search plugin).

The second way is that you can make an alias that grabs it's contents from a text file and let's you narrow down the results within that.  To learn how to do that read about the filecontents alias command here:https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=17270.0 (and also  https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=17260.0 )

Welcome to the site Filipe! and thank you for the suggestions.

Some quick thoughts about some of them:

the option "Shell Context Menu.." could be replaced with ""Shell Context Menu..   Ctrl+P"
excellent idea, will add.

Is it possible to search/launch Opera or Chrome bookmarks?
there is a plugin called FarrFox that can search ie/ff (with tweak)/opera bookmarks.  maybe chrome can be added.

13870
This is exciting -- looks to me like we are going to break $11,000 !

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: TableClips:Field 'Index' not found
« Last post by mouser on March 26, 2011, 09:55 PM »
Reinstalling doesnt clear the database -- if you want to wipe out the install to start from scratch, exit the program and find the Clipboard Help+Spell\Database directory and delete it.

On windows XP and earlier that subdirectory will be in the C:\Program Files\ but on vista/win7 it will be in Documents\DonationCoder\

Official Announcements / Fundraiser Day 25
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2011, 12:09 PM »
It's friday and Day 25 of the Fundraiser -- we're in the home stretch!

Today DC member skwire released a Steam Url Converter, a tiny utility for people who use the Steam gaming platform:
Steam allows you to create shortcuts on your desktop to launch games.  However, these shortcuts are not standard Windows .LNK files.  They are .URL files and, sometimes, they don't show the proper icon for the intended game even if the .URL file contains the correct information.  This app tries to solve the issue by converting the .URL shortcut into a .LNK shortcut.  Simply drag the .URL file onto the SteamURLConverter.exe file and it will immediately create a .LNK file in the same folder as the .URL file.

And I released an important update to Python ProtoCards, my open source Python library to help card game designers rapidly prototype printed card designs.

Enjoy the weekend, and stay tuned for the final details of the end-of-fundraiser giant giveaway that will be posted in the next couple of days!
