It generally works fine for short term usage, but if left too long - and the time varies - it go boom. Some of the machines here have remote access. An they're the ones that fail when an outside user tries to connect ... Gateway goes Ping-Pong Poof!

For the record, 40HZ, maybe I can one-up your #4.  We had people who, when the office CABLE IP went down, they would whip out their cellphone and connect their WiFi to IT.  But leave their WIRED connection plugged in TOO!

StoicJ.  The default gateway is the same whether wired or wireless.  It is the same router and shows being 10.0.50.1 no matter which connection is active.

Yes, as it typically is in these cases. The problem is that the routing table has to play 50/50 on which interface to access it through (because they'll both try to have priority). One registers, then the other one registers, then the first one registers again ...(this can go on for days)... Then they both miss...

I think he's referring to the tablet required Finger Friendly Factor. I love the PDF Xchange application version for DT use, and am about to switch to it here at work on my 8.1p workstation. I did my best to make peace with the native Metro PDF viewer, but it just annoys the hell out of me (can't search/print/move the damn thing).

 So you're saying that PDF Xchange has an app version??

While it's an interesting philosophical debate on the sanctity of a mythological "force" ... I gotta go with tomos on this. It's a game. It's supposed to by fun. There's plenty of time and opportunity IRL to deeply grasp just how badly life can incredibly and pointlessly suck ... It doesn't need to be feathered in for entertainment value.

This is why the original Grimm's fairy tails - which really were - got touched up a bit and given happy endings. Because cautionary tales don't have to be aphoristic and horrifying.

Both lines of the $query are needed. The "VALUES..." needs to be concatenated with the dot operator to the previous line, because you must match values to the number of column parameters passed into the table.

Its been awhile since I've done any PHP, but shouldn't:
$query = "INSERT INTO proofreading_sought (firstname, lastname, email) " .
      "VALUES ($first, $last, $theMail)";

Be:
$query = "INSERT INTO proofreading_sought (firstname, lastname, email) ";
$query.= "VALUES ($first, $last, $theMail)";

other thing that looked odd was:
$dbc = @mysqli_connect($mysql_host,$mysql_user,$mysql_password,$mysql_database)
      or die("Failed to connect to the database...");

or should be || as in:
$dbc = @mysqli_connect($mysql_host,$mysql_user,$mysql_password,$mysql_database)
      || die("Failed to connect to the database...");

php_xslt.dll has nothing to do with MySQL that I know of. One Quick-N-Dirty trick I've used a few times is to have a page echo the MySQL query to the page (and then stop) so I can then either just see what's happening (/missing at run time), or then paste it into a PHPMyAdmin prompt to see if I can get an error or successful result set of 0.

It's saved me much anguish over stupid (leading spaces in values etc.) mistakes.

You're only supposed to have one default gateway. But with the configuration you describe you actually have two different default gateways identified as the same target. This configuration is not supposed to work.

We have several HP AIOs at the office that are connected to the internal Gb wired network, but also have built in wireless adapters. Every now and then one of them (through no fault of the user... {Ha!}) will end up with a running wireless connection, and a bunch of connection issues.

Point being...just because Windows has gotten better at compensating for this rather typical configuration booboo it doesn't mean it's supposed ever to happen, or the right way to do something.

There is after all a vast amount of middle ground between totally subjugated obsequence and rioting in the streets (Personally I think we're a bit too close to the first one..). Not to mention that if you look at it from a bit of a distance, the only really disruptive change being effected is the consistent downward spiraling push towards a surveillance state.

So... Much like the SOPA/PIPA/ACTA thread implies by its mere existence. Instead of just believing what were told - since the real truth is out there - whenever one of these idiotic constitutional violations shows its head .... We The People respond by making every governmental Email server explode instantaneously with the sheer volume of Email screaming NO THE HELL YOU DON'T!! And we continue to keep it up until those that keep trying to push it through get the message as their voted out ass is now job hunting.

It's really just a few clicks up from passive resistance, but it's damn sure a good place to start...and it seems to be working so far (according to the thread mentioned earlier).

The only problem lies in people weakening and falling for some bullshit "For the Children" line that allows these vermin to burrow deeper into the dark. Haul their happy ass out into the sunshine...and if their albino asses bust into flames like a vampire ... Hay WTF ... Like they always say, omelets gotta get made somehow..

Case in point, we're currently two from the USA nobodies, that are having a conversation with a guy in Australia, while folks from all over the planet watch and can chime in ... Yes, but there are always those odd occasions where the OEM media has been lost - or was never provided - and the machine needs to be flattened/reloaded. Previously Dell media has always been the cleanest fallback when paired up with another OEM's COA key. So a totally legal repair that doesn't leave the client hanging for days waiting on a disk, or hemorrhaging stupid money for overnight shipping.

The behavior surrounding 8/8.1 implies that the paying customer must suffer the time/money loss to protect the poor starving corporation... This is simply unacceptable.

I had the same initial reaction (/answer), but didn't have time to post it. However in retrospect I don't actually recall seeing a OEM COA with a Product Key on any of the new Windows 8 machines I've encountered. So are you saying that there is no "latitude" in the OEM self activation scheme?

I don't use any specific forums other than EventID.net. Everything else is generally an attempt to separate nomenclature from lingo in an attempt to synthesizing a correct way of phrasing the issue. Once that is done, much of the idiot suggestions (e.g. noise) disappear allowing a solution to be found with a Bing or Google search.

It truly is amazing how you can search on a problem for days with no results, and then after rephrasing the question a bit...find hundreds of references to the correct answer.
