So it's cute, but counter-productive?  :P

but the idea is still applicable (and I've used it before with great results).

As have I :)

Whereas .NET provides wrapper functions for serializing/deserializing, it shouldn't be too difficult for App to do it manually.

Are you using a .NET programming language? If so, I can supply code to serialize/deserialize your object.

I'm hoping to find time to program a more extensive, polished app; but I'm hedging my bets by releasing this small portable program (no .NET runtimes; it can be run from a thumb-drive if desired):

KyrTTS is Kyrathaba's Text-To-Speech application. If you have Microsoft SAPI installed, this program can be used to convert English text (contained in a text file) into WAV audio.

Here is the download link for the non-UPX-compressed application in a zipped file (333 Kb download, 626 Kb extracted).

And here is a download link for a UPX-compressed version of the program (281 Kb download, 286 Kb extracted).

Living Room / fast infrared coming?
« Last post by kyrathaba on October 03, 2012, 07:22 AM »
Besides TV remotes, the technology was last seen on devices like Palm Pilots facilitating the wireless transfer of contact info. But researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS in Dresden have rebuilt infrared—making it better, stronger, and most importantly, faster. It now boasts transfer speeds of one gigabit per second, making it 46 times faster than "convential Wi-Fi" as the researchers claim, and over 1,400 times faster than Bluetooth. The hardware, which relies on laser emitters and receivers no larger than a kid's fingernail, could be easily installed in smartphones so that sharing a large HD-res video could take mere seconds.

And I do agree with both of these points.  But laws have to be made to be impartial (the blind lady and all).  Same thing happened/happens with Microsoft vs. the rest of the world.  They do the same things as others, and are held to a different standard.  I can see the thought process behind it, and based on emotions and what I'd like to happen, I'd agree.  But logic tells me that they all have to be treated the same way.

I signed up for the "Design of Computer Programs" class - CS 2012. I should enjoy this, as the first example program has to do with Poker, and a year or so ago I came up with a C# class for a deck of cards, for the purpose of completing a Programming Assignment here at DC.

@skwire: will Windows' command-line FTP app handle FTP that requires encryption? In other words, could it be used to upload files to DonationCoder via a script?

@shmuel1: I'd be interested in seeing your AutoIt script, if it can be used to cause FileZilla to upload files to a site requiring FTPES encryption.

@OP: Does it need to be completely portable, or can it leverage .NET runtime?

I've put up the thirty books I've read thus far in 2012 here in GoodReads, along with a brief review of each. I'll put up past years' reads, as time allows...
