found two with exclude features
not sure about restoring to states before minimize
both from lifehacker

SmartClose does a good job of restoring states but no exclude options and it closes and not minimize.

I've given DC as a reference for a variety of software. Software that is here as well as discussed and reviewed.

I don't know if that would qualify as a DC wikipedia paragraph.
It would have to be in the third person or something.

And on that note, I'd like to see more software discussed and reviewed. Certainly can't cover them all but what one has experience with.
(I am telling myself also, as I would like to post a review of some software, but have not taken the time.....yet)

it's added to the system's send to menu automatically
should be able to stick it in screenshot captor somewhere....
but not in the email send to section i think

i'm not obsessing over anything, the main reason for me to use cleanmem is because i use minimize to tray and don't want to restart ff when mem gets crazy

and YES ff pops up right away out of the tray
like it's supposed to, like i want it to

sheesh...

and what has you thinkin i'm using task manager?

Fixing memory leaks: hunt down bugs in source code and recompile. No way around it.

i'd be glad to do this if i knew what i was doing

So now lets start with how Cleanmem works. Cleanmem is very small as it doesn't need to do much. First off Cleanmem doesn't clean the memory from the processes itself! It asks Windows to do that. When the program starts up it grabs a list of running processes. It then grabs the ID of each process and calls the Windows API EmptyWorkingSet for each processes, Cleanmem of course checks the ignore list and skips those processes. Then Windows cleans the process, and once all the processes have been cleaned Cleanmem closes itself.

Well that's the part that seems to freak some people out, if the memory is being cleaned then the process itself will suffer! the memory will be pushed to the hard drive! the world will end! And guess what they are wrong. So let me explain why. The API call only removes memory no longer being used by the process. It doesn't touch memory in use

Works for me fodder. It doesn't 0 out everything.
No change in the page file when CleanMem is run.
I've checked it by running it manually.

If you have a way to fix the mem leaks, lets hear it please.
I just avoid the worst add ons, that leak mem,
and that's about all I know to do.

I took out Fasterfox and Tweak Network and it seems to improve speed and stability.

I use cleanmem to keep firefox in check. While it doesn't clear the memory cache of FF, it does knock the program down to around 5000, every 30 minutes, then slowly back up to 60,000 or 80,000, but not like it was going up to 200,000. Worth it to have quick access to FF and where ever I left off.

Also there is an add on called 'cache status' but it sometimes hungup on the memory deal and locked. Plus I think it was a mem leaker like quite a few of the add ons. So I try to stay away from those.

Flash block really helps with quick page loading. Seems every one is embedding flash everywhere!

Came across this, but I don't know. I'm surfing fine now, I'd hate to screw it up.

Edit-further research shows no real comments of value or actual tests.
I advise against this 'ultimate optimizer'.

FF3 seems fast enough as is.
Pipelining actually slowed it down. imo.
Fasterfox, or Lite or Tweak Network,
all seemed to have a slower effect on my machine.

Granted it's not a top of the line computer.
But I've found that many functions are already in FF and just hidden. Cutting down on add ons.
'Toolbar Buttons' gives these extras a quick access point to put in the toolbars.
I have 24 add ons that seem to not be bothersome.
Using 'Minimize to Tray' which is officially 'experimental', ha!
I just have to restart FF once in a while when it gets a cold and needs to blow it's nose.

Now we are at 3.0.6 and I don't think these tweaks are keeping up. I don't keep up with any nightly builds though.
1337
I'd say to check the 'regional and language options' settings in control panel.

That's my best guess, I haven't seen a problem like this before.

The site and article comes up ok here with firefox and ie.

Registry cleaners are for cleaning the registry, not for virus'.
Your friend recommended a program that is inferior to what is readily at hand for free.

Though a registry cleaner can help, it's not the solution.
It serves to help real malware programs to do their job faster.
There is no one registry cleaner that will clean completely anyway.

CCleaner is the safest, while there are more that do better.
Any more then CCleaner then you have to get out of 'friends recommendations' and into professional recommendations.
From those who have tested and run more then a few to know.
And not running programs that you have no knowledge of what it will do and not do.

hm, yes you are right MerleOne.
And they have not found a solution yet.
Putting the problem on other hardware or software of the user.
Instead of trying to duplicate the problem.
That's what I see from this forum discussion of what you said.

When I try to explore an image by assigning drive letter and then just go around and browse folders I got a blue screen crush!

I use Macrium reflect - free edition - version 4.2 build 2021
on windows xp sp 3

Thanks

1. Does it mean that the image is corrupt or just browse is problematic ?

2. Do you have some list of software which can conflict - I have 42Tags, vnc, skype, msgr, tortoisesvn, clipmate, evernote, ultramon, taskbarshuffle,

Verify it (Other Tasks > Verify) to make sure. If the verify fails then that is also a possible cause of your blue screen on browse.

The browse driver is a kernel mode file system filter driver. It's a very robust driver but a blue screen is technically possible if another (incorrect) file system filter driver is conflicting with it or the image file is corrupt. We've never seen a blue screen on browse and no-one has ever reported this before, so I'm afraid we can't supply a list of programs that conflict. If you have any installed software that creates a drive letter in Windows, an ISO mounter for example, then that could be a possible candidate.

Hope this helps

The data verification failed...

Is this because my external hard drive is slow on uncompatible ?

Can I save the image on the partition I am trying to backup ?

Thanks

If an image fails to verify, it is usually a sign of a hardware problem.
It could be the hard drive (source or target), bad memory, bad hard drive cable, etc.
You might try a chkdsk /f /r commmand on both drives and see if that helps.
You usually can't save an image on the partition you are trying to back up.

Yes, that's true with all online service.
Always keep backups locally is best.
Use the 'save' for saving to the hard drive as well as online.

I was going to suggest 'Think Free'.
http://thinkfree.com/
Because they have the option to put their programs on your computer as well as operate online.
But there is no calendar, unless you make one with one of the apps..

Provided by DownloadSquad.

Fedora 10 is at the top of the list here.

A 3.5 gig download it says-

You can create a Virtual DVD Drive and load the ISO in it with Daemon Lite.

- your DC RSS feed only has 5 items and forum has 30 posts in one day...
I think your RSS feed needs to show 60 posts (on average)?

Yeah I think the feed could use some help.
I don't know how they work from DC's end.
But from the feed readers they don't show much of what is happening on the board.
And it could solve the recent post problem as well.
Perhaps have it show threads instead of just posts, I don't know.

I had the feed for a while but it didn't say much,
compared to the actual ongoing content of DC.

As far as the search thing, I'm fine with how it works.
An index of links or software would be cool, but the context would not be there. (or could it) So you wouldn't know if they were good or bad links to software and things. And even that depends on the person in some cases.

I've posted software links I recommend at other forums and linked to the conversation at DC about it, so that they would get an idea of what others think about it.

As simple and easy as DC is, I'd hate to have it complicated up.

MS seems surprised at the demand-THE DEMANDS- for Windows 7. That we expect improvements in performance and quality and stability from this product.

After so many getting disappointed by Vista, wtf do they think the demands will be?
