i wonder why no one has requested that before.. sure that's easy enough to do.

though note that another way to look at your request is to say that you can just ignore the title field (and event hide it from display if you like), and just look at the excerpt field, which you can show in quick paste menu and show in the grid, etc.

so i'm happy to add it, but if you are desperate for it, might it be the case that you aren't sure how to have the excerpt column do the job you want it to do?

DcUpdater / Re: DCUpdater does not recognize installed programs
« Last post by mouser on August 05, 2011, 02:01 PM »
Well unless you manually edited their config.dir files in their directories, they are not in portable mode, so there is no reason they shouldn't be found.

Try this, go to your Documents folder, and try to find the DonationCoder\DcUpdate subdirectory and look for some .dcupdaterdirect files.
See if you see any difference between the programs that it thinks are installed and those it doesnt.

In other words, is there a file for UrlSnooper but not for Farr?

Or is there a file for each but if you open the FindAndRunRobot one, does it point to the wrong directory?

What operating system are you using?

Did you set the programs to run in portable mode?

and you've restarted your pc since you changed monitors?
and can i ask what operating system you use?

if you are willing, and since this is a reliable bug for you, and since i've started coding again on sc and this is a good weekend for me to try to fix this -- could you email me ([email protected]) and i can see if i can send you some test versions and i can try to get this solved with your help.

this is interesting..

SC should be detecting the resolution of your screen.  there really is no other option for it. so it is a bug.

but you aren't the first person to report this odditty, though it seems exceedingly rare.

you are however, the first person to suggest that maybe it has to do with a change of monitors.

have you restarted the computer since you changed the monitor?

and can you confirm that the resolution of the captured images is really 1280x1024 -- rather than just appearing squashed?

if you do a capture of the active window -- does it capture fine then?

The real moral of the story is this:

Sometimes the cause of your problem is some low tech piece of the puzzle that you *ASSUMED* could not make a difference and so ignored.

Secondary lesson:

Always listen to mouser.

Bonus lesson:

Don't turn your mousepad 90 degrees.

3. Would it be useful to add the option in CHS to periodically re-establish the clipboard chain?
There is already an option for this in Clipboard tab -- i'll check what the inveral is -- i could add an option to let use set interval.

If I can get someone to do 99% of the coding i'd be happy to put my name in the about box credits :)

Thanks for the clarification, app103.  So member pages would not be directly affected; rather, members who've created free-/donation-ware would be asked to add their software to the DC software directory.  I for one look forward to this, as I think such a site-wide directory that includes members' software would substantially enhance the visibility of those members' programs who are not major contributors.

yes.  It would not only be an issue of increased visibility, but make it much easier for us to keep the information up to date, highlight new releases, and help visitors to find and discover software made by DC.

Little Voice Commander / Re: Little Voice Commander Reviews
« Last post by mouser on August 04, 2011, 01:51 AM »
And a really sweet review in today's PC World:

For those who are brave enough to turn the computer over to a small child, DonationCoder founder Mouser's new Little Voice Commander (free/donationware) could be a good program to start with.

Little Voice Commander helps teach kids vocabulary and pronunciation on your PC.Little Voice Commander shows photos to reflect what your toddler's approximation of English says. This simple program encourages toddlers to speak and experiment by showing pictures of words they are likely to know, such as "dog," "apple," or, well, "baby," whenever a word is spoken or when a key on the keyboard is pressed. A sound file also speaks the word out loud. Press K, see a kite, hear "kite." The pictures typically arrange themselves into a mosaic; sometimes these images are repeated. The translation of babyspeak into American standard English depends on Microsoft's speech-recognition engine, making it necessarily an inexact business, but that's part of the fun. For example, imagine a child saying "No!" and being rewarded with pictures of snow.

Ghacks had a nice write up about Little Voice Commander in May 2011:

All in all it is a great program that will keep kids entertained for some time on the computer. Even better, it makes them associate words with images.

I've uploaded a beta with folder monitoring support.  Hopefully it will work even on network shares..

It would also be possible for me to add ways to trigger certain behavior through a commandline call if people think that would be useful; so i could add commands that would tell MPQ to refresh it's images or quotes, or switch in and out of away-message mode. Added to beta.

Fun article:

The best candidate I have been able to come up with is the C/Unix/Posix use of NUL-terminated text strings. The choice was really simple: Should the C language represent strings as an address + length tuple or just as the address with a magic character (NUL) marking the end?

Hi kendrkin,

I'm glad you like the program.  It's not one i get much feedback about so it makes me happy to hear someone is using it -- seeing the photo of it in use on the wall made my day.

I've actually been meaning to add that feature for quite a while, and this is perfect timing for it.

I'll try to add it today -- if not today then definitely this week.
