Yeah, I knew I heard that "molecular cooking" somewhere... one of the followers is from Spain, Ferran AdriĆ”. Forget about applying their methods to a full meal, anyway :)

I'd suggest assembling a giant mob and march over Redmond ("Fix that bug already, you lazy slowassed engineers" ;D)

Seedling's Software / Re: New App! WTF!? Music Info
« Last post by Lashiec on January 05, 2008, 02:13 PM »
Good job! Now those files are recognized without problems...

... and I unearthed another bug ;D. Seems something is wrong with the recursive search, because although it works in my main music directory, counting every file located in the nested directories, when I input the main directory (My Documents) containing the two separate music directories that I have, only one is searched! The other one does not show its results in the graph.

EDIT: And another one, this time a exception. I have various pictures for each album I have together with the music files, and it seems the program doesn't like cover pictures, at least one of them, because it throws a "External Exception EEFFACE" when it gets to this picture, and it seems the scanning routine gets stopped there, as the status bar shows it's analyzing this file. I wonder if this could be caused by the fact that this picture is duplicated in two different directories. The exception only occurs when I select "Genre" in "Display chart by". And pushing "Stop" button does nothing.

Living Room / Re: What do you think about "What I like to do" medallions
« Last post by Lashiec on January 04, 2008, 06:33 PM »
Wouldn't be better to use a rotating userbar, like the one CWuestefeld uses? Appending more symbols to someone's profile means more clutter in that zone, and some people have quite some of it, with IM details, DC medals and everything. Besides, only Gods know how many medals Wordzilla or someone else would have to create to reflect the eclecticism of DC :)

Or use the method we used during all this time: the spoiler tag. Which, as I said earlier, has been used in all cases of rude remarks or posts. Unless we're going to consider the most minor expletive as rude...

We should also consider where do we draw the line.

I would like to implement the tagging system, either at database level, not showing for the rest of the people, either with a system similar like the one suggested by app (of course, that would mean CodeTRUCKER would have to use a Firefox extension, don't know if he uses Firefox or not). You want to view NSFW posts? Cool, uncheck the option "Do not show NSFW posts" in the profile. You don't want to view them? Check it.

Should it be enforced by default? No, I don't think so, the option is there, so it's up to a member the task of finding it. Should it be reminded it's there? Absolutely not, mostly because it will give a bad impression of the forum ("Oh, my, they have a NSFW option, this must be a mean site, like that pr0n filled one").

As for the term "moral policing", it's a bit of a catch phrase in the city where I live, the media uses it all the time with reference to a narrow-minded right-wing party, a bunch of ass-clowns who try and do innovative things to get some attention, like vandalize movie theatres if they're playing something that "offends their sentiments" & try and ban Valentine's Day coz it brings about "unhealthy feelings" (laugh it up!) among youngsters.

OH, MAN, that feels like Spain before democracy :o

What can be resolved is if people become more important than rights, but it appears my attempts at planting are not finding fertile soil.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a solution has been proposed, and some people has provided variations to make things easier for everyone. Judging from your reaction, you feel like is a good option, and mouser seems receptive to implement such solution in the forum. Most people agree with the arrangement, and philosophical, political, religious, whatever discussions aside, the problem looks fixed to me. Unless you want something else which escapes to my perception.

Okay, now I'm confused :) I was referring to the feature I used in my post, which lets you hide content. It's much easier to use than Rot-13, of course, but serves the same purpose: you won't be able to see the contect until you decide to physically reveal it.

It may even be "better" (forgive the inverted quotes) than the proposed tagging system, in that a tagged post remains fully readable, while the spoiler feature mechanically hides what might offend.

Oh, OK, now I understand, I got it backwards :-[

tranglos, is that similar to a feature some other SMF-based forums have, in which you get a "Spoiler" function which shows the text as you hover over it, or perhaps like the one used in phpBB, where you have to select or click in a box containing the text?

Because all the ROT-13 I know is the encryption method, and I don't know how it would be used here, if you could explain it with some detail :)
1317
Well, it's all detailed in those posts: pseudo-spamming practices and malware in the package. Actually, mouser, even you had to deal with one of the developers in the IRC :)
1318
That reminds me Ryan at CyberNet mentioned the other day IE7 Pro, and has been recommending it sporadically. Maybe we should let him know about their nasty practices and special "tricks".

HAHAHAHA! That joke was great!

I'm all for the tag system. Some of the forums I usually visit are mostly used by teenagers and by twenty-something guys. Even those teenagers know when to mark a new topic as NSFW (prefixing a "+18" before the title of the post) when it can be clearly offending for someone. And I tell you, most of those guys are far meaner in language and pictures that the most explicit image or sentence posted here. If raving teenagers know when to draw the line, I feel the majority of the forum will know when to do such thing, after all most people around here is over 18 (it's not that being a 18-year old guy makes you a responsible person instantly, anyway).

Besides, I think that most adult threads here have a meaningful title, which explains by itself (case in point: the Pr0n Tube topic), and foul language often carries a spoiler tag or a "NSFW" mention somewhere. Of course, what it's foul language for me, could not be foul language for another person, like f0dder said.

* Lashiec counts the steps:

Shift+PrtScreen (one), select region (two), select what to do with the shot (three). Heh, if you choose to not use the dialog, can be done in two steps (if Screenshot Captor is already running).

You can also ignore the license and do the transfer between computers to punish them for such a thing ;)

Or use a better (even free ones) screen capture tool, it seems it's not doing anything that exclusive.
