Coding Snacks / Re: Overlay Folder Icon with Exe icon
« Last post by cmpm on March 21, 2009, 03:11 PM »
you are welcome peteryy,

Interesting that this came up on my feeds this morning
although I can't figure out how to get to work.

It seems to still be in development or something about look for the next release.

http://www.nirmaltv....ge-with-fast-folder/

I messed with it till i got tired of no results.
Perhaps someone else can figure it out and post an easy explanation.

It's supposed to put a pic of your choice on the folder type icon by way of dropping a folder of pics onto the program, it generates thumbnails and then you can pick the picture you want on the folder icon. I got that far, but after choosing a pic it showed an error.

I couldn't get it to work right, or my computer couldn't, perhaps not powerful enough.
On my computer it showed an error and I had to close it.

I'm going to keep an eye on this one and watch for further developments.

To replace a dvd drive would be as much work as checking the connections.

Here's an external dvd burner to consider.

The paging file was larger then required.
Virtual memory is not just the paging file.

Naw, I didn't take it personal.
It helps my old clunker.
On a newer machine it may not matter.
This one I have thinks slower then the newer ones.

And I just stated a fact.
While others claim great performance gain,
CleanMem does not.
Just a smoother ride.

So I don't take it personally.
Heck, you can see how fodder and I get along!
:)

Well my vote goes with CleanMem. I use it of course.
My page file is actually smaller then it used to be.
I have it set to system manged since I'm low on actual ram sticks.

I think CleanMem just kicks XP into doing it's job if it hasn't yet.
No programs that I've been running ever have been affected when does it's few second job every 30 minutes or however you want it to run.
As stated in the explanations it works with what is already on XP.
Don't know about Vista, that's a different setup I think.

Actually I think sometimes the pagefile maybe faster then my sticks.
Since I'm still using pc100! Yeah I know, upgrade to a newer computer.
But other things come before this.

btw folks the best 'cleaner' i know of is ATF-Cleaner
developed by a tech at geekstogo.com
nothing to do with the registry
but stuck/broken downloads, videos won't play and more can be fixed with this gem-
most of the time

most is coming from clsid, although some hits were in history
maybe thats the same
i got three shots for ya
if you double click on a single entry
it takes you to the key in the registry
and btw i just rearranged my icons on the desktop
put them in their category folders

not sure if this is what you want to see but there is no full blown report, and my screen won't accomadate everything
so that's the reason for shifting some columns
plus i'm download happy too :)
which means i'm uninstalling a few things as well-all the time lol...

It's true that most keys found in a good registry clean don't matter much. They can pile up and sometimes , not often, fix problems and speed up the computer a bit.

Here's a shot of a scan I just did. Not a lot, 84 I think. Just from Windows registry tracking everything you install or change, basically. Keeping settings for programs as well, that you may not have any more.

Anyway here's the shot, and I run it occasionally cause after a while there is 100's.

a very good and powerful cleaner
in fact so good-be careful with some of the cleaners
i just use the registry cleaner with this one
sometimes the other cleaners, but they may clean too much
be sure you know what it's taking out

the registry cleaner part is safe
and i use it without problems

http://www.nirmaltv....eg...t-registry-fix/

the home page is in another language so i posted this blog about it

here's the home page-

http://www.vitsoft.org.ua/index.htm

i've used (and still do) regseeker, glary, ccleaner and atf cleaner, cleanup! and atf as well as cleanup! has nothing to do with the registry-just threw them in

anyway I use the cleaner for files in ccleaner mainly for saving cookies i don't want deleted, so on the other cleaners i skip the cookies

since i've been using Vit, the other registry cleaners don't find much.

But watch out for the other cleaners in Vit, they are powerful. too powerful with a novice. Perhaps the reg cleaner part also.
But it does show exactly what it will do before you click 'Fix'.
With options to uncheck fixing anything.

1293
hm maybe acbrowser,
but most any file manager has it's search capabilities
it can search by filename but i don't see exclude

http://www.konradp.c...how_app=acbplus_free

1294
What about 'Everything'?
If you go to specific folder then right click has 'Everthing' in it.
And will only search that folder.
Here's the exclude options.

General Software Discussion / Re: Bookmarks, I am frustrated
« Last post by cmpm on March 19, 2009, 10:33 AM »
I guess I don't understand the request.

Seems you could put Firefox on your server and save pages with firefox as you require. Using Firefox from your server on any machine hooked to it.

Or have a central folder on your server for saved pages using any program or plugin you like. Saving to a network places folder or some folder in firefox.

Weave is coming out soon though it is not ready, waiting for the newer versions of firefox. But that's using their servers I'm sure. Foxmarks works fine for me, being able to set my bookmark structure in any fashion I like.

I'm not sure what Local Website Archiver does.
I haven't played with it yet.

But Websitezip Packer can save a web site with the links operational,
though the linked page is not saved.
The links will open on the web in your default browser.
It only saves the target website.

Then there is an option to save the site without it being operational.
If for some reason you want to share a site without the links operational.

So either way it keeps the saved web page small in size.
Which I think is the point.

I could be mistaken, but i've mess around with it for a few sites.

well crap, sorry but quickassociation cost 8 dollars, having to register with pc magazine.

I had to go the dentist (fun fun) and did a quick search for file type history before i left.

But file types manager is free. It's almost like windows file types but a bit more to it.

Also found this, but I'm not sure if it will show the history, although it mentions something about keeping track of it.
I haven't tried it yet.

FileTypes Manager may help, but there is no history of prior associations.
