it sounds like i need to turn on the border when undocked.
so you had it set to no-border?

i wonder.. maybe you have the dock set to hide window border, and that's causing the trouble.

go to the dock properties, and make sure border is set to something other than no-border -- maybe that will do it -- or at least change that value.

does that help?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Plz add unicode support
« Last post by mouser on October 28, 2011, 07:24 AM »
I wish it was easier to add..

However there is a way to add unicode text boxes in screenshot captor, by using SC in combination with my Unicode Image Maker program, which SC is designed to integrate with.

It's not an ideal solution, but if you decide to try it and have any trouble let me know -- it's been a while since anyone reported using it.

One thing i can do is make a video screencast showing how to use Unicode Image Maker with Screenshot Captor, and what it can do -- if that would be useful?

I don't remember where we left this -- but i'm ready to test and fix.  LBC has always worked perfectly on multimonitor setups for me, and is designed to be dockable on any edge of any screen.

It is common to have the dock appear somewhere on the desktop when you undock, and some icons might not be visible until your resize the dock.  but you should always be able to drag and drop it onto any edge of any monitor.

Can you clarify what you would like to be able to tell LBC to do?

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR App Crash
« Last post by mouser on October 27, 2011, 09:44 PM »
if i had to guess, i'd guess it was one of the plugins..
i see: C:\program files\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins\FARREnviormentVariables\FARREnviormentVariablesRCW.dll

and there have been known issues with that plugin.

exit far, delete that plugin folder, restart.  if it still crashes, exit farr and delete all plugins files and restart.

The way to read that threshold number in the options is to multiply the new candidate image width*height, then divide by 1000.
If the value you get for your new image is larger than that number, it will be rejected.

For your sample image that was rejected your image was:  (1349*1766)/1000 = 2382.334

So the default options value of 1000 would have rejected it.

If you want to copy every image just set that value to something like 99999.

you MUST include lines in your perl to flush stdout!
Is that just a PERL thing, or required with any utility?

it might be with any language/utility where one redirects stdin and stdout, it may depend on the way the language does it.  only way is to try.
but i still recommend using the file input and output methods -- that seems more reliable to me than redirecting stdin/stdout.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Scrolling capture is not working
« Last post by mouser on October 27, 2011, 09:53 AM »
please don't say that it supports scrolling screen function- it doesn't.  List it as a beta feature, or something - up front, before users jump thru all hoops to use it.

i hear ya.. for a while it was a reliable feature.. then ff versions and win7 broke all that and it's been pretty unreliable for a while now.

i done much of the work for a completely new wonderful scrolling capture -- it's coming soon.

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR Super Laggy
« Last post by mouser on October 27, 2011, 09:42 AM »
ok here's something to try:

next time it lags, do this:

first, see if hiding far and then bringing farr back up fixes all lag issue. if so, does the lag return in 5-10 minutes?

if so -- then we are dealing with some form of slowdown related to the operating system moving farr out of memory or moving the searched directory caches out of memory, or network file access slowdown.

also try this: go to options and find the launch history tab and right-click to clear the results of launch history.  if that helps, then it could be your launch history is slowing it down -- this can happen usually if you have network drives. do you?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Keep Image and Show not working right
« Last post by mouser on October 27, 2011, 09:19 AM »
Strange!
It does sound like you've diagnosed the problem right.

The real question seems to be why is it not actually KEEPING the capture.  When i try it it does here.

Can you try a test, remove the other images in your screenshot directory, and then try the keep image and show.

Does the new image still not show up?  What if you go to the thumbnail panel and hit F5 to refresh it.  Still nothing?

What if you do several captures like this -- still nothing?

Well, no one from DC came to board game night this time, but we did go down to the local gaming shop (Armored Gopher Games) for board game night, and had a great time.

General Software Discussion / The Glorious Return of Shell Extension City
« Last post by mouser on October 23, 2011, 11:50 PM »
Shell Extension City (or ShellCity.net) has a long and wonderful history as a site that posted updates about cool freeware.  It was one of the best places to discover new cool freeware tools.

Way back in 2005 during the first days of DonationCoder, I wrote an email to bob, the guy who ran Shell Extension City and told him about the site -- and in the weeks/month/years that followed, Shell Extension City was always super supportive of DonationCoder software, and the mission of this site.

And I know that many of the early DC members learned about us from Shell Extension City -- and many of them donated -- which is a testament to the community that hung out at Shell Extension City.

Well, the ShellCity.net site has been quiet for a while now, but they've just posted an announcement that they are getting back to regular freeware updates.. Hurray!!!

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Do I need CHS or something else?
« Last post by mouser on October 22, 2011, 07:57 AM »
This is a really interesting question.

It sounds to me like trying to do what you want with CHS or another clipboard tool would be unsatisfactory, because of your desire to be able to provide a file or list of entries that should be presented for choosing from.

A small custom ahk script might serve your purposes, but it occurs to me that this might be the kind of feature that might be nice to add to CHS, if it was more generally useful to people.  Maybe you could try to describe more fully how you would want to provide the file of information to the program (you say csv files but it's not really clear how that conveys the information that would be needed to present a tree of choices for what to show and paste).

The other thing to consider is if you really do want a tree to dig down through, or whether you would be better off instead with a live search system (which may not support an interactive hierarchy to navigate, e.g. Find and Run Robot).

My main concern, of course, is the data

assuming you have a spare pc or laptop, you can get one of those usb docks that support bare drives, and remove the old drives from your now-dead pc, and access them from the secondary pc+dock.  then you can back up all your data.

after that you can investigate the cause of the problem on the dead pc.

this sounds stupid, but try plugging it into another outlet using a different surge protector.

if nothing turns on, no fans no hard drives, it may be the power supply.

Is there any Keyboard+mouse combination for the "Launch and stay open"

Ctrl+doubleclick will launch an item and stay open.

Screenshot Captor / Re: 2.102.01 window size bug (regarding capturing)
« Last post by mouser on October 20, 2011, 05:58 AM »
But when I do that, SC (after hiding itself for the capture process) always resizes itself to full screen size. I'd appreciate if it would remember it's previous window size.

sounds like a bug, i will try to fix.

A related idea would be an option to show the just captured image for x [customizable] seconds on the screen, maybe with some kind of lightbox effect

i like this idea!
