Its useful now but I still have many ideas to implement.  I'd love to make it available and get feedback about what folks like and don't like. I'm not sure the best way to do that.  I don't mind if folks use it but I'm really after critical feedback.  I'll have it in a form that is tested and working well by the end of the year.  I only work on it in my spare time.  Suggest some ways to make it available.

If you would like more interest and feedback why not make a separate post here something like "New image browser feedback wanted"
At the moment you post is buried at the back of this one

there was a farr-like program recently that i know mentioned some actions like renaming.. i can't remember the name of it.. anyone?

Thanks but I am not replacing FARR!!!   I tried loads and like FARR the best. Blaze also requires you have NET Framework 3.5 installed, I dont like that.

[...] tags directly to filenames  [...] ok, this can also be done in a one-click fashion using XYplorer's scripting. Like you could set up 20 Catalog items which on a click do whatever you want to the current file name. All imaginable logic and rename artistry is supported.  [...]  Very soon you will also get customizable toolbar buttons  [...]

Neat! Though by the time I read this I had already done a small standalone AHK tag toolbar that works ok for my purposes. It gets the selected files path from the active explorer/xyplorer/etc window through ctrl+c and then operates on the filenames. (If there's great demand for it -- unlikely! -- then I'll clean up the code later and post it. Drawback: I've found no easy way to re-select multiple files in Explorer programmatically from an AHK script after renaming.) Anyway, I will keep checking XYplorer's development on this front. Customizable toolbar buttons that allow the user to run almost anything is great for many other uses also I suspect. I still like the XY's thumbnail mode a lot so I might use it for that alone with my script - I'll testdrive some more and we'll see. Thanks for all the helpful feedback!
Id love to try out your AHK script if you post it I can just copy and past it.

Thanks for the reply and links to read. Yeah I suppose you can expect too much from a great program. I just thought someone might have found a way to work with a plugin.  I suppose though it would be better to find a good renaming tool and just use far to start it up.

Find And Run Robot / can FARR be used to rename a bunch of files in a folder?
« Last post by delwoode on November 07, 2009, 08:26 AM »
say IF I wanted to rename a bunch of pictures in a folder that my digital camera has named 0001.jpg etc to something more memorable like Frenchholiday.jpg   Is there a way to to that in farr, with or without plugin?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Farr Alias: nircmd alias
« Last post by delwoode on November 01, 2009, 07:51 AM »
why all the files in the zipped folder?
apart from the nircmd.exe  there were 4 alias files
nircmd.alias
nircmd.alias~
nircmd.alias.bak
nircmd.alias.bak~
do I need all these?
also my antimalware program didnt like nircmdc.exe and removed it but it thought nircmd.exe was fine

"DR binder.ALI"   I suppose this is a false positive?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Another FARR similar app - Executor
« Last post by delwoode on August 25, 2009, 09:47 AM »
As someone who is not a geeky type I like the fact that it is easy to use and the killer for me is that it uses much less memory than the others. The way i have FARR set up it sits in the tray and uses 2mb! executor uses 5.5
So you're not the geeky type but the biggest advantage of FARR over other tools is that it uses a whopping 3.5 MB less memory? You do realize you most likely have about 1000+ MB at your disposal? Don't get me wrong it's nice when an app uses little RAM but 2 MB vs 5.5 MB doesn't make any difference (yes more than double but it's 3.5 MB for crying out loud).

It wasnt the only reason. But all the others i tried used more memory, executor used 5.5 at the lowest.  Yes it doesnt seem much does it, but when you have about a dozen apps running it can add up before you realize.

@Mouser
quote "as i was telling philKC on the irc chat, this is the first firewall leak tester that beats me, because it tries to run any non-default browsers it finds on the system, and while i have my default browser blocked, i have others which are allowed to connect through the internet."

it runs non default browsers, would it also find portable browsers on your hard drive?

Post New Requests Here / Re: change taskbar colour (like windowblinds)
« Last post by delwoode on August 25, 2009, 04:40 AM »
It can be done, and it has been done.
Take a look at the pro (Skrommel)'s Colour Taskbar script [ Here ]

EDIT: Oh and it only has effect on the older style of window's task bar, as far as I know..

As I understood it Skrommel's script makes the taskbar run though a range of colours over time.
But I think the poster just wants to be able to change the colour and have it stay one colour?
I would like that too.

O.K. seems like its not the best idea i could have had!!  best to drop this.
What made me think of it  - is because some of the bigger expensive disk defraggers defrag in the  background when the computer is idle, sort of a bit at a time to keep your pc drives unfragmented.  But your right it would be hard to decide what was idle, low cpu usage, low hard drive usage etc.
141
Use the screensaver installed with jkdefrag/MyDefrag.

FWIW, the new jkdefrag is now called MyDefrag:
http://www.mydefrag.com/
http://www.mydefrag.net/ (GUI)
I knew about the screensaver technique, Its not what i want and i hate screensavers and have them disabled

142
I would like to have jkdefrag start defragging when ever my computer is idle for ( you could set a time 10mins or whatever)
143
Couldnt there be a second version that enables you to simply change the colour of your taskbar.  I would like to change mine without using windows styles, but I wouldnt want it changing all the time!

Find And Run Robot / Re: Another FARR similar app - Executor

I prefer FARR to executor and all the others i tried before i got to FARR,
why do I prefer FARR?  As someone who is not a geeky type I like the fact that it is easy to use and the killer for me is that it uses much less memory than the others. The way i have FARR set up it sits in the tray and uses 2mb! executor uses 5.5

I'm slightly confused AKx, (Its easy to get me confused). If I use your plugin with everything do I still use  ev before the search term ?
Also what i find strange is that when everthing is running the memory usage of FARR goes down to less than 1mb and everything is using 8.7mb
