When you say nothing is captured, do you mean you get a pure white or black screen?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Capturing partial screen area
« Last post by mouser on January 28, 2012, 09:35 PM »
just do a select-region screenshot (by default shift+prtscr i think),
then to capture that same area again, do a repeat region capture -- which you can trigger through the system tray or set a custom hotkey for (i don't think it comes with a default hotkey).

Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Captor v3 beta
« Last post by mouser on January 28, 2012, 09:14 PM »
The next non-beta release of Screenshot Captor will be version 3.0 (!)

Version 2 came out on September 3rd, 2005 (six years ago) -- and about 106 updates ago.

The biggest addition in Version 3 over the last version 2 release (2.103) is what I believe is the most powerful scrolling capture seen in any screenshot tool (though i do not claim it's the easiest to use or the most automatic) -- but otherwise if you had the most recent version 2 release you won't notice too many other changes.  It just seemed like after six years it was time for new major version release.

The new version also marks the first break with the packaging method I have been using on my DC apps.

My setup .exe packages used to be zip-compatible, which meant you could run them to install the app, or unzip them to access the files manually.  But from now on, my programs will always come as 2 separate downloads -- one a standard installer, and one a portable .zip package.

I'm hoping this new procedure will solve a problem people occasionally have with their browser downloading a partial file and making the mistake of thinking the full file has downloaded but is corrupt (search for "not a valid 32 executable" on the forum for sampling of such errors).

The portable zip file will also come with a pre-configured config.dir file that will tell the program to run portably without the user having to make any modifications.  I hope this will be a little less confusing and make it even easier for portable users.

Furthermore setup files and executables will now be digitally signed with a DonationCoder certificate, which should eliminate some of the scary warnings that some browsers occasionally show.

I want to say thank you to all the Screenshot Captor users and testers, and especially the donators -- who have made it possible for me to keep working on the program for all these years.  If you're a user of Screenshot Captor but haven't yet made a donation -- I'm hoping you will take this opportunity to do so.

Also, I'm going to dedicate this version 3 to Gizmo's Tech Support Alert website, which gave Screenshot Captor its "Best in Class" award for screenshot tools.  Gizmo has always been super supportive of this site, and I can't express how honored I feel to have Screenshot Captor receive that award.  It motivated me to double my efforts to improve the program.

An early download of the v3 beta is here:

FEB 5, 2012: V3 has left beta; official thread is: here.

I hope to make it final this week.

the problem is that the program does not offer a display of all clips stored with the timestamp on which, each clip was created and the application from which, each clip was created,

yes it does.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Launchbar Commander (Hung) read more..
« Last post by mouser on January 28, 2012, 11:50 AM »
sorry for the delayed reply -- i've been working overtime on a major update to my Screenshot Captor program and have fallen behind replying to my other app threads.

I once experienced a similar problem where i did something (mouse got stuck on drag) and the window became super large.  i'm not sure what exactly happened or why.

I think i recovered it using a generic program that moves windows on screen and resizes them, a freeware tool called Discover.

Let me add a way to have tell the program automatically to automatically recover from any such emergencies where windows get too big or go offscreen for whatever reason.

Glad to hear it's getting there.. I'm reaching the point of diminishing returns in terms of improving auto-guessing of stuff -- so I don't think it's going to be getting *too* much better.  The one thing I may do is add disk caching for the multiple images, which would make it possible to capture larger scrolled regions that exceed memory requirements.

The help file definitely needs updating. In fairness the Modify Format/Case dialog just got a recent major rewrite.

I think \n can be used to find and replace linebreaks in non-regular-expression mode.

I've uploaded a new version with some more elaborate functionality when you press the "TEST WINDOW" before beginning a scrolling capture.  That button will engage a process that will try to guess the best settings to capture the window.

Essentially it tries to figure out the optimal way to do a LINE-based scroll (as opposed to a page-based scroll) which can be more reliably overlapped (since page-based scrolling sometimes yields 0 overlap between pages).

Ok so a few things to try:

1. remember the LAST page overlap may be different from rest -- so when you get to last page use the special last page overlap setting.

2. if you find that you cant get the overlap values to line up stuff -- it's possible your MARGINS for top and bottom are off. try tweaking those.

New version uploaded; the previous one broke the scrolling capture margin and overlap detection functionality.
12021
can you elaborate on this request -- i'm not sure i understand.
12022
i could do that.  you might also looking into changing the delays for revealing the launchbar, which you can now customize.  that can give you time to grab your window before the launchbar appears.

It's hard for me to get worked up about these privacy issues.. I'm not sure why, they just don't seem to bother me.

Now I happen to think google is out of control and harmful for other reasons i have written about -- and believe that their greed and need to dig their nails deep into every thing in order to ensure they can never be dislodged from their position as an unstoppable advertising machine is disgusting.  But the privacy stuff is the least of my concerns..

Can't ask her because of

I don't know.. does seem like if the computer is for her you might at least try to ask her if she would prefer a laptop or a desktop.  if you know you are going to get a desktop, then there is no real harm in getting an all-in-one touch screen pc for her -- for the extra bucks it seems like you might as well, for your planned use.  but what 40hz says about a laptop being a better fit for many people is really true, so i wouldn't dismiss that choice.. a laptop is after all the ultimate all-in-one.
