Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Move Window without it gaining focus?
« Last post by brotherS on March 15, 2006, 02:33 AM »
Hi AndyM, I don't understand how that function could be helpful - I never missed it but am interested in how it could help. Please tell me! :)

PS: Click on "quote" and see what happens :D

if you could implement my "second timer for WinWarden" idea from the other thread

:tellme: Did that a while back. Isn't it working?

- 2006.02.12 - v1.9: Added second timer to kick in when muted and idle
You are talking about IdleMute - I was talking about WinWarden, see my quote above :)

let's see, I have (from left to right):
Gmail notifier, FreeDownload Manager, USB Drive thingy, AVG, AllChars, F&RR, WinWarden, AHK, CLCL (clipboard manager), Windows Security Alert (i'd like to get rid of this, but can't...), KatMouse, RtvReco, HP Printer Software and finally Tclock2.
I killed the Gmail notifier, I'm getting so many emails that it was becoming a bit annoying. I'm also using the Free Download Manager (https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1801.0) but I'm not running it 24/7, only on demand. And I let AutoHotkey (https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1167.0) kill it if I forget to do that :)

I can also recommend skrommel's IdleMute (https://www.donation...m/Software/Skrommel/) and a clipboard manager (https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=501.0), I'm using ClipX right now.

Oh yeah, and of course I'm running the famous Miranda (https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1201.0) 24/7 to enjoy some nice discussions in DonationCoder's IRC channel etc. (https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=772.0).

Hehe... :)

Reminds me of that US guy that started to take "sign with your good name" to a whole new level! After noticing that virtually noone checked what he scribbled on the signature lines, he tried LOTS of funny stuff, for example "Donald Duck", "X X X", and even his own name but in hieroglyphs - everything was accepted!
:o

Yours,

Err... no idea. But if you could implement my "second timer for WinWarden" idea from the other thread, that would make this problem irrelevant.

Living Room / Re: 10 most annoying clocks
« Last post by brotherS on March 14, 2006, 01:50 AM »
Hahaha, nice review! How crazy is this?!?!? ;D ;D

The Sonic Alarm will wake pretty well anything up. Simply pull the pin, yell an emphatic “fire in the hole” and lob the grenade into the sleeper’s room. After ten seconds a very annoying and piercingly loud noise (there are three volume settings) will blast out from the alarm. That’s not all however, what makes this especially great is that to stop the alarm the sleeper has to find you so you can put the pin back in. Price:$16

yes, i agree... Since Gmail came on the scene, I find myself using email clients even less... ;-)
I had been using webmail for years - but only in combination with email clients on my PC, since I was always missing stuff... Google Mail finally changed that!

Is there a default button in there somewhere?
:tellme: What do you mean?
1212
I noticed something strange:

As long as WinWarden has the Miranda window moved to its 'low' position, I can type in there (I did set the timer to a longer interval, so it will not be immediately repositioned when it gets focus), but the Enter key just won't work until the window returns to it's original 'active' position.

;D Gotta love the "dining out window" mod!

:o :(

Anyone here able and willing to enhance Miranda's (already damn cool!) IRC plugin a bit?

It's about an option that displays a red line whenever the IRC window is losing focus or when you switch to another IRC tab. That way, when you go back to the IRC window or switch back to a tab you were in before you'll immediately see where you left. I heard both mIRC and Trillian have such an option already, I'd LOVE to have that in Miranda's IRC plugin too!

Only problem: DC tools are missing...

You are busily surfing download sites, you see an interesting download at www.lifehacker.com or wherever, and you download them over a period of weeks/months.

[...]

But :o now the "That" day of reckoning has arrived. You see all the .exe and zip files with cryptic names, you cannot for the life of you remember why you downloaded them in the first place or even where you got them from.
That's why I'm always renaming downloads to have the file name display exactly what's in it!

Makes keeping track of versions far more easy too, my installer files are named like this:

FastStone Image Viewer 2.4 Beta 3
MediaMonkey 2.5.2.948 RC2
AutoHotkey 1.0.42.03
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) 1.27.260

etc.
1222
I can only second that - I didn't test it yet, but sounds great! Maybe a perfect addition to FeedBlitz --> https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=2070.0

:tellme: @brotherS: What do you need this for: "but would take a few seconds 'regret time' before executing the 'Deactivated' event"? Is it to prevent "flashing"?
No flashing here, it's working pretty good! But I'd like the "deactivated" mode to kick in with a delay that I can adjust - so that I could quickly check something else in another window (or open the ClipX menu to paste something from the clipboard history) without the IRC window going to its "deactivated" position immediately.

At the same time, I want the "Active" mode to still kick up fast when I (later) return to the window that's then in "deactivated" mode.

AHK is awesome!  And to be able to make executables, too, for people who don't have it and maybe only want one or two certain scripts!  Yes, easy to share, plain text, working in any application, working off a USB stick, I'm with you, it's great.  The one thing I will disagree with is that I've seen reviews that say it is "easy."  To me, it isn't easy to learn to program in AHK.  Not that it should be, you understand.  I'm just saying, if you don't know anything about programming languages, a review should not claim that it's simple.
Well, it's not easy if the only thing you program is the remote control for your TV ;)

But honestly, AHK allows you to start very small (think hotstrings), and then to learn from example. When you run into problems that the nice info on http://www.autohotkey.com/ can't help you with you just ask others, for example in the AHK forums. Doing this, you'll increase your knowledge over time.

So yes, I would call AHK easy - the same way it's easy to drive a Porsche across the kindergarten parking lot. It just requires more practice and training to speed that same Porsche over the Nürburgring at 150 mph successfully.
:)

I can't tell you how much I love it!  I've already offered the first version on my site and, when done, will definitely post again with the updated version.
Why don't you just link to this page, so people could join the discussion? That way they might also stumble upon other great DC apps!
