I believe ShellCity was the very first place that ever wrote about DonationCoder -- many people discovered us from that great site.

but would a file synchronizer be of any help?

yes this is a smart answer.  in fact i can pretty much do exactly what i'm asking if i use a good file compare/sync tool like beyond compare, and perhaps this is the way to go..  Just feels a bit awkward to do it that way, but it does work.

Ok here's something I run into pretty frequently when doing manual backup tasks.

I want to copy a large and deep directory structure from one location to another.
BUT there are certainly file types and certain branches of the tree that I do not want to copy.

So essentially what I want is to be shown the Source directory tree where I can browse and untick certain branches to exclude them, and specify a filter of file patterns to ignore, and then have it do a nice copy with progress indicator.

Does this exist somewhere?

LaunchBar Commander / LaunchBar Commander issue with RDP monitors
« Last post by mouser on April 05, 2012, 02:01 PM »
I think you could add an option for docks how to behave when there is no screen to display on.

I don't use RDP -- can someone enlighten me about how apps see themselves when running in such a case?

The remote desktop tools i use don't change the host operating environment at all -- so all monitors are always there as far as any applications are concerned -- they don't know that anything has changed -- it's simply a case where the client that you use to connect looks at one monitor (or all) at a time.

But it sounds like with RDP its more like creating a new desktop, with only one monitor?

LaunchBar Commander / LaunchBar Commander issue with RDP monitors
« Last post by mouser on April 05, 2012, 01:33 PM »
what will happen when i connect with remote desktop using only the first monitor? can my web dock then show up on right side?

Unless the remote connection makes the desktop think it has changed size, im guessing the dock will stay on the other monitor and thus not be visible to you.

You have some options:
  • you could create an additional dock on your other monitor
  • you could minimize the dock to the tray and use it from there
  • you could set a hotkey to show the dock as a menu under your cursor and use it that way when connecting via remote admin.

Or if this is an issue others have, we could try to figure out a solution that moves the dock in some smart ways -- i'm open to hearing proposals for that..

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Drop links from browser

As part of this report, I will try to make it possible to drop url shorcuts from browser onto LBC and LBC nodes.

Welcome to the site xpi3000!

Your question is an excellent one, and i'm not sure it's an issue that's been raised before.

But it sure sounds like a case where LaunchBar commander could use a new feature.

Let me go investigate it and see if I can't:
  • make it easy to drag and drop url shortcuts onto LBC
  • fix any bug with dropping .url files
  • add something i've been meaning to add, a simple way to tell LBC to populate a menu with items from a simple .txt file

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Accented characters...
« Last post by mouser on April 05, 2012, 08:46 AM »
CHS does not support unicode, which means that the character sets for the display components need to match your native character set in order to display properly; maybe I'm using one in that grid that doesn't.  I'll look into it.

System Path Commander / Re: missing download (404 error)
« Last post by mouser on April 05, 2012, 08:42 AM »
Thanks for the report Ken -- I actually had to remove the download because of a complaint from the hosting company, which is using some very poor malware scanner which was unhappy the executable was compressed (these lazy malware scanners are going to be the death of us); i will put it back up as soon as i get it repackaged.

And sorry if you get the feeling I got you frustrated.

Not at all.. And I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am amazed at the patience people have in the face of some bugs and frustrations.  If I had half the patience of you guys I would be a better person.  It takes very little to have me screaming and cursing at my monitor..

Can some of you windows 7 users manually download the brand new updater that i just uploaded with a manifest file:
https://www.donation...s/DcUpdaterSetup.exe

And tell me if it works on on windows 7?  This should bypass any virtual store, I hope.

I just want to make sure I didn't break anything with the new manifest.

Ah i should have built into the new version a manifest to tell it not to be able to use virtual store..
perhaps it's not too late.

DcUpdater / Re: LATEST VERSION INFO THREAD - DcUpdater - 1.30.01 - Apr 4, 2012
« Last post by mouser on April 04, 2012, 02:44 AM »
In the past I created all my setup files as zip-compatible self-extracting packages.  This had the advantage of making it possible for someone to download the setup file and instead of running it, simply unpacking it for portable use.

However, this had a few drawbacks including not being able to sign the setup program and possibly causing some downloads to fail midway.

So with all my new releases I am providing them as 2 separate downloads -- a main setup program which is no longer "zip-compatible" but is digitally signed for security, and a second Portable.zip version which is a normal standard zip file that can be unpacked for portable use.

Version 1.30.01 - April 4th, 2012
  • [BugFix] Fixed bug where virtualstore location was being written to, causing dcupdater to report old versions of installed programs sometimes; see https://www.donation...x.php?topic=30528.0; thanks to dc member sba
  • [Feature] Added the following optional parameters to versioninfo.xml files:Override_VersionFileRemote,Override_WebPage,Override_UpdateFile.  Using these you can effectively have the versioninfo.xml file overide some values of the local .dcupdate file or even redirect to an alternative versioninfo file.
  • [Feature] Executable and setup now digitally signed and not zip-compatible

@mouser : I saw that ctrl+shift+arrow(L/R) for quick selection in farr is still no selecting anything. Can we expect a "fix" soon ?  (I'm calling this a "fix" as it used to work a few versions ago)

yes i will try to figure out what is going on with this.

Armando, see if you maybe have that option above set in the radio box "Hide When Focus Is Lost" -- that can cause some odd behavior.
