What about capture workspace?

Yeah i've not had such a report from others.. but if it happens to one, it can happen to others.

Well it's surely a fault in the program and not in your touchpad.. unfortunately the error message is very generic and doens't help pinpoint it much.. The ideal scenario would be if you found a set of actions you could perform that would always repeatedly cause the error, so that we could test a fix.  If something goes wrong again, could you try try to write down exactly what the last actions you performed were?

One possibility is that it is a security program interfering, in which case you need to add an exception for Screenshot Captor:
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=16024.0

And also, does it matter what program windows are showing when you try to do the capture, or does it happen no matter what you have open on your desktop?

And what about when you use the other capture modes -- Capture entire Workspace in particular (Ctrl+PrtScr)?

Jeez that is terrible... I'm so sorry.  Can you figure out any pattern that triggers the error -- you mentioned an undo operation -- did it always happen on undo? Or you say once it happened in the process of saving?  I'd really like to try to figure out what's causing this -- any clues?

I can't think of any reason why it should be giving you trouble like that.. Screenshot Captor was made to work well with multi-monitor setups.

Let's see if we can pinpoint the problem a bit more.

If you try other capture modes, most notably the "capture entire workspace" mode, does it capture all monitors as one image, like it should?

When you say the screens go black, can you elaborate.  Do you mean the screens go black and the crosshairs appear on the black screen until you select a region, and then when you select a region with the crosshairs.. what happens?  does it capture black or the correct area of the invisible black screen or?

That's an interesting question..

Can you be a little more specific about the nature of the personalized video..

Is she going to record each personalized video on demand as she needs it?  Or is she going to record them all at once?  How hard would it be to record them all ahead of time and upload them all, so that all the pieces were online?

How important is it that the final video appear absolutely completely seamless and not appear to be a sequence of 3 items?

Screenshot showing the new "Investigate IP" page, useful for getting more information about an IP of a misbehaving user, etc.:

Yumps_investigateip1.png

The idea is to provide the site administrator with tools to drill down and understand problem users.

And here's the complementary "Investigate User" page -- but only showing investigation info about the IPs found to be used by the user (a lot more info needs to be added to this page):

Yumps_investigateuser1.png

From these two pages you can cross reference information, finding all users who use certain ips, or finding all ips used by certain users, and then digging into the logs for details if you need to.

The most frequent problem is people clicking the wrong link for the wrong key..
And it should start with *r and be several lines long.

If you still have trouble, email me ([email protected]) and i'll help more over email.

Thought it would be nice to have a G-rated thread for animal videos.. Just saw this one today and it has to be my favorite in months.

That looks like a mistake on my part with the "start with all users option".. I will look into it and fix. Until then if you simply uncheck the start with windows option from inside SC then you should only get one startup instance (the all users one put in place during install).

I'm going to try to occasionally post a video showing some YUMPS features.

Be warned these are rough single-tale things, and I've not spent any time on making the software LOOK good -- only getting the core functionality up and running.

With that said, here's a video teasing some of the "Bridged Login" features, which let users log-in with 3rd party accounts like facebook, google, twitter, etc:

Some quick personal thoughts:

I try to think about forum policies in terms of balancing different goals that are occasionally in conflict, and in shades of gray.

The forum serves multiple functions.

It's a community where all of us regulars like to talk to one another about whatever is going on in our lives and about our ideas, etc. -- totally unrelated to software, technology, etc.

It's also a place where new visitors come for help and guidance on technical issues -- on software that we make but also on other technology problems.

This is obvious but it bears repeating: The forum is not the only place to talk on the internet.  In fact many of us regulars hang out in the irc chat room and talk till all hours of the night about whatever pops into our heads (politics, jokes, programming, employment, etc.).  And the internet is filled with wonderful political blogs and all sorts of different forums.

So I do think there is value in having a tangible kind of focus, flavor, spirit, mood, energy on this forum that is different from most others.  I don't want our forum to turn into something that looks like all the others.  And I'm very sensitive to the danger of our discussions becoming insular -- becoming just us regulars talking to ourselves and not being an inviting place for new visitors.

So for me, I don't see an issue of censorship as much as I see us trying to formulate a set of guidelines and principles that helps us keep this forum open, inviting, and, for lack of a better word, specialized.

I am warming though to the idea of setting up a special section (soap box) which is slightly off the beaten track here -- such that there should be no concern that discussions there would detract in any way from the main general public sections.

I think perhaps that is the crux of the dilemna here -- that with only one public "Living Room", there is some pressure to ensure that it reflect well on the site and be inviting and representative of the focus of the site.  But if we allow a "Soap Box" area where anything goes (politics, etc.) then perhaps that would not be an issue.

Having said that -- I think a great deal of the charm of this forum is that we share a common experience -- that we aren't broken up into little enclaves.  So I think it would be important that the soap box not become a kind of alternate forum inside a forum where there is no shared experience.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have supposed that posting a remembrance to the 6 million murdered in the Holocaust could have provoked such an outpouring of...something (I can't quite describe it) like what is seen in some of the ensuing comments.
This post is "political"? "Religious"? "Borderline appropriate for DC and is only becoming more so"?
The thread is "disruptive"?

I may have been inarticulate in my comments.. Allow me to clarify before i myself move to the other thread.  There are lots of times when someone will post something political that I agree with, while still having the feeling that it's somewhat off topic for the mission of the site.  Now my feeling is that we can handle lots of "off topic" discussions here, but not an infinite amount.  And that's where I view my responsibility sometimes, to nudge us occasionally back on course so that we still have a kind of core focus.

I wasn't trying to pass judgement on this post or the importance of the issue -- i just reacted to a gut feeling that it was about to devolve into an argument over which genocides were the most horrible and why, and my anti-political endless tit-for-tat talking past one another radar went off.

It's all about moderation from my standpoint.. And so sometimes it may look like i'm picking on one person or one post -- when the reality is that it's not a very scientific thing -- occasionally it just seems to me that a thread is going to take a turn from off topic to off-off-topic, and i feel the urge to say something sooner rather than later if i feel like we've add a large volume of recent threads on stuff that is on the margins of computer/software related matter.

Again for me it's all about moderation -- I just ask people to be cognizant of keeping the flavor of the forum reasonably balanced between talk of computer/software/technology stuff, and other matters -- and cognizant of the balance in their own posts.

I don't browse by section... but by unread topics since last visit.  I'm not sure how many people do the same, but this wouldn't help in that case.

as Ath says -- you can very easily ignore an entire section in your profile -> ignore boards
so this *would* be a solution for people who only read by checking the Unread posts section -- since ignoring a section will stop it from appearing in your unread list.
