Mostly bug fixes with this release:

v3.07.01 - June 19, 2012
  • [BugFix] Access Violation Errors could be triggered (especially on selected region capture) after the disconnection of a monitor on a multimon system (perhaps also after monitor resolution changes, hibernation wakeup, remote desktop connection/disconnection).
  • [BugFix] Scrolling capture option dialog settings were not being saved.
  • [Documentation] Added documentation on automatic installation of license key, configdir, and settings files.
  • [BugFix] Fields for memo after a scan would sometimes include filename of last application window captured.
  • [BugFix] Using timed autocapture tool to do scanner captures did not work.
  • [Default Change] Set default option to print captions on printouts.
  • [Options] Added options on "Print Options" tab to use default units/page orientation, which should remember last used values.
  • [Change] If option is set to stay minimize and hide main widow on capture, main window will stay hidden after capture even if it was showing at time of capture.
  • [BugFix] Copying and pasting objects using menu could result in new objects pasted out of view.

Matt Drake writes a great board game review blog that I read regularly, and seems like a genuinely cool guy.

He posted today asking for help in locating a wedding dress and other clothing that went missing from a dry cleaners after a house fire.  If you know anyone in the Dallas & Fort Worth metropolitan area, please pass along the request to be on the lookout for Matt's lost items.

Nice find panzer

I've said it over and over and over on this forum:  Microsoft is infiltrated, from top to bottom, with saboteurs doing their best to destroy the company from within -- that is the only explanation for why they do what they do.

Hi kefrey,

Welcome to the site and sorry for the delayed reply!

Looks like you are right about the mislabeled fields -- I think the reason it's gone undetected for so long is in my version i've got some saved configurations that overide those values, so i never noticed it.

You can actually click on those "Field 3" labels and edit them directly, and they will be saved with your configuration.

Now the drop zones are more troubling -- looks like i need to make a new release since those cannot be so easily fixed.

MEWLO Web Framework / Re: OLD - Unfinished Web project: YUMPS
« Last post by mouser on June 17, 2012, 08:58 AM »
Rover actually mentioned the "Symfony2", and I've actually been giving some thought to whether Yumps might eventually benefit from a major rewrite to use the Symfony2 components, and shift to being more of a standalone mini-framework rather than a yii module..

You can see how other people have been building micro-frameworks using the symfony components, and that seems like an intriguing possibility for Yumps.

Unfortunately while yii feels absolutely natural and synchronized with the way i code, symfony is the opposite -- it feels alien, awkward, and ugly.

However, it's still something i'm thinking about, if only because using symfony components seems to offer some advantages in terms of having less of a commitment to pieces that are unrelated to Yumps.

I've never been a huge fan of Linus and especially his attitude when giving talks, but you have to appreciate someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind.

From zdnet writer:

I’ve been following Windows 8 closely over the past few months, spending a lot of time not only with the official releases but also with a number of leaked builds, and I’ve had the chance to install the operating system on a variety of hardware platforms, both old and new. However, since my primary working platform is a desktop system, this is where I’ve had the chance to spend the most time with Microsoft’s new operating system.

I’m now ready to sum up my Windows 8 experience with a single word: awful.

He later sums up with a thought that strikes as true to me:

Windows 8 wasn’t born out of a need or demand; it was born out of a desire on Microsoft’s part to exert its will on the PC industry and decide to shape it in a direction — touch and tablets — that allows it to compete against, and remain relevant in the face of Apple’s iPad..

I just can’t shake the feeling that Windows 8 would be better off as two separate operating systems. A ‘classic’ Windows 8 for regular desktop and notebook systems - which would feel more like a service pack for Windows 7 than a full release — and a separate ‘Metro’ version for touch-enabled hardware.

Ok well if it works when you manually trigger it then its just a small bug on the timed autocapture and i should be able to fix it very easily.

Ah.. I didn't even realize you could select a webcam from the scanner page.

So let me ask, if you manually trigger a "Scanner" capture, after having configured your webcam as the "scanner" device, does it capture from the webcam?  If so, i can fix the Auto Capture Timer thing.

Additionally, you might want to check out my Webcam Video Diary application, as it also has some timed capturing options and is specifically made for webcams.

Developer's Corner / Help me think of a small ipad app idea to code
« Last post by mouser on June 13, 2012, 11:15 PM »
Hi all,

I have a long and entirely negative history with Apple, especially with coding for apple devices.  In high school I had a programming job that was smooth sailing until it came to porting code to a first generation macintosh, which was pure hell.  And I am definitely not a fan of the company.

However, I have been gifted an iPad, and after a few decades my curiosity has gotten the better of me and I want to experiment with coding an ipad app that could actually go into the app store for a buck or so.

Any small app ideas?  I'm not looking for anything groundbreaking or large -- chances are high that I'm going to dislike the process of developing for Apple as much as ever and not want to spend much time on it.

I'm a bit confused; this is for the Screenshot Captor program? And what are you trying to do? And what is the option you are setting?

Excellent

Don't forget Cody is easy to please.. He probably enjoyed the down time and doesn't need big fancy trips or photographs -- so don't feel like you have to take a million pictures of him in exotic places.  Just show him around and send him on to the next pitstop :)

I'm always a bit weary of layering stuff like this though.. all it takes is one bad hash algorithm that by accident maps all inputs into a small hash space and you are in trouble.

I will say that it's a clever and neat idea you have there of running the extra new higher security hash on the OLD_HASH rather than on the plain text, so that you could in fact upgrade the entire database any time you upgrade your hash algorithm, rather than having to wait until the person next logs in.  That's clever.
