Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Free WinUtilities 6.2!
« Last post by Curt on March 18, 2015, 12:52 PM »
WinUtilities is now at version 11, and is being given away (today only) by "Shareware On Sale".
Free, but no updates:
http://sharewareonsa...-edition-29-95-value

or a so-called lifetime key, but merely for 1 computer:
http://sharewareonsa...inutilities-pro-sale => $12 instead of $32½

So, their best offer would be the 3-computer lifetime license:
https://secure.avang...%26AFFILIATE%3D52714 => $20 (plus VAT) instead of $80 = 75% off.

Sale ends in 1 day 13 hrs or until sold out

General Software Discussion / Re: Remove Embedded Watermarks in Videos
« Last post by Curt on March 17, 2015, 03:43 AM »
I have tested the $140 SoftOrbits RemoveLogoNow, and the result was unacceptably poor. I would not even accept the result if their asking price had been a hundred dollar lower!

You will get a better result the hard way, if you split each video into individual frames, one picture per frame, (at, say, 25 per second, that is a lot of pictures!!), and then run the $20 >Batch Inpaint< from Teorex; it will do a much, much better job. But to finish, you will of course have to first merge the pictures into a video file again, and then sync the new video with the sound from the original video - which is why it is important that the 'split' is "per frame", not just some easier frequency. I don't know what program can do this split, for you.

All in all, you'll probably get the best result the easiest way, if you trial Adobe and Sony, and such.

Instinctively I welcome this.
And Yes, I use eM... because I have paid for it!

The license for eM Client that you received as part of SoftMaker Office Professional 2012 is perpetual; you will only stop receiving free updates for it at some point.
The manufacturer of eM Client will offer a discounted upgrade to its own version of eM Client to SoftMaker customers.

Should the new 2016-version also have a new name?
SoftBird  or  ThunderMaker  or... ?  :tellme:

A few years back these interesting instructions were posted:

How to Remove a Watermark From a Video

Download and install Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.
or
Download and install Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.
or
Download and install Adobe After Effects. Adobe After Effects has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.

For full instructions:
http://www.ehow.com/...watermark-video.html
-ehow

But of course, that was then. I don't know if the trials  still are 'free'.

There will be a transition period of two release cycles (12 weeks total) during which unsigned extensions will only generate a warning in Firefox.

After the transition period, it will not be possible to install unsigned extensions in Release or Beta versions of Firefox. There won’t be any preferences or command line options to disable this.

Installation of unsigned extensions will still be possible on Nightly and Developer Edition, as well as special, unbranded builds of Release and Beta that will be available mainly for developers testing their extensions.

General Software Discussion / Re: Need help cleaning virus inside HTML files
« Last post by Curt on March 16, 2015, 11:07 AM »
This guy said it would be both faster and safer, to do it manually:
http://cleanbytes.ne...rtcuts-virus-removal

However, you may want to try if USB-Fix can help you out:
http://www.en.usbfix...-shortcut-virus-usb/

But other than that, I have no knowledge about these matters.
I wish you good luck!

Maybe forget about having a super editing viewer! In some viewers you simply click a keyboard hotkey and the picture will open in 1 of 3 of your genuine editors! In my setup Shift+1 will open app1 which I use only for cropping. Shift+2 will open another app for painting, and Shift+3 will open my super editor.

This procedure is faster than searching for one or the other editing programs, because IrfanView also has a keyboard hotkey of its own: Ctrl+Shit+i.

Sadly, IrfanView itself and most of the plugins are not "Unicode". I am not all happy recommending IrfanView!  :-[

"The Firefox button was removed in Firefox 29 and replaced with the Hamburger menu icon."

^ I didn't know this, and I had no idea what a Hamburger Menu was, so your post send me off, to search for answers.

The first answer was, to kill it!!

That little three-lined button is the devil. Whether you call it a side menu, navigation drawer, or a hamburger, hiding your features off-screen behind a nondescript icon in the corner is usually a poor mobile design choice. Interaction theory, A/B tests, and the evolution of some of the top apps in the world all support the same thesis: The hamburger button is bad for engagement

http://techcrunch.co...er-button-kills-you/
-techcrunch

The next article's author suggested the menu should be upgraded to Cheeseburger menus!

If nothing else, we could follow Josh's advice on improving the hamburger icon: "Cheeseburger menu. Because everything is better with cheese."

http://www.theatlant...-menu-debate/379145/
-The Atlantic

The third answer was actually about hamburgers, but then it was from McDonalds, and I prefer Burger King...

------------------------------

I still don't know the answer to your question (!), ewemoa, but in my mind the lack of the old Firefox button is the real problem. Here is an addon to solve this:

http://www.ghacks.ne...eme-restorer-add-on/
https://addons.mozil...lassicthemerestorer/

8: Display Firefox application button

The Firefox button was removed in Firefox 29 and replaced with the Hamburger menu icon. It is possible to restore it using Classic Theme Restorer. You can define its position, customize it visually and functionality wise.
-Classic Theme Restorer

One answer said "I absolutely love that I can move the search box to inside the hamburguer menu and still get to it pressing Ctrl+K", so I was wondering if you simply are missing the sidebars? Try Sidebars List: https://addons.mozil...addon/sidebars-list/  It should also let you have Ctrl+B and Ctrl+H back.

Adds drop-down list to switch sidebars

86202.png

/Given that Mozilla removed the Bookmarks and History Sidebar toolbar buttons in Fx29, it's good that this still works. Thanks.
-Sidebars List

The real problem is of course the UI re-design by Mozilla, so give Pale Moon a try!   http://www.palemoon.org

« Last post by Curt on March 10, 2015, 07:21 PM »
Nothing Miles said.

One real danger is what may happen if you don't get under the car, because that's where any life threatening action on the road would take place. From time to time it is important to check for rust, how much is left of the brakes, is the petrol trunk rusting, are there any lose hanging wires, check suspension, etcetera. Changing oil and plugs, is cosy, and you save a little money, but getting under the car, may save your very life!

« Last post by Curt on March 09, 2015, 07:24 PM »
The good news is that it's being created by some of the folks who created Opera, which was in many ways a great browser. The bad news is that Vivaldi is being created by some of the folks who created Opera, who stubbornly resisted add-ons.

When I read about the Vivaldi browser, I thought (almost) exactly what our diva just said; "What about addons? How can anyone in their right mind think they can create a new Internet Browser to compete with Firefox, Pale Moon and Chrome - without first letting a thousand unpaid, software authors write a gazillion extensions, to make the browser useful? Wow, that Vivaldi company will have to make it a fantastic browser!"

Living Room / Re: Sorry, Ebooks. These 9 Studies Show Why Print Is Better
« Last post by Curt on March 09, 2015, 12:38 PM »
In the last maybe five years I have purchased at least ten times as many eBooks as paper books. But each and every time I buy an eBook, I get a little frustrated, even angry!, because I know that if it had been a paper book, someone would inherit it after my death, but no-one will be getting the virtual books.
Why not? Put them on a DVD, box it, and place it on the bookshelf. ;)

I think paper books and ebooks have their different pros and cons. But the main problem with ebooks in the quoted situation ("after my death") is that the ebooks, I am talking about here, are all part of my bible study program, Logos. Without the program there are no books. And for these books to keep working, their next owner must pretend to be me (log-in for software update, etc). And keep pretending, to such an extend that Logos may think it is weird that Curt has now lived for exceptionally many years!

This may sound silly to some of you, but I have spend half a year's salary on these books, so to me it's a lot of money. If they were hard copies, they would be passed on to some one. But being virtual, no one will get it (do you get it?), because the people emptying the flat will just toss out such an old, almost worthless PC and what is this, a "DVD"?

General Software Discussion / Re: Music Identification via Sound Card
« Last post by Curt on March 09, 2015, 11:56 AM »
I used to record a lot of music via the sound card, and have the recording program auto-name the tracks. But somehow the various programs never managed to name any Danish track, so over time I lost interest.

Will any of the solutions you are thinking about define anything but "American" music?

3) In the tracks of 2, maybe DC could inform newcomers more that installers here do not have tricky bundleware installers? The about page says nothing about that. The software page only shortly state "None of our software contains spyware or adware of any kind" in the left column.

Here's an idea: we add a dedicated "DC pledge" page that very clearly states no spyware, no bundleware, no tricky installers, link to info on AHK false-positives and so on.

The page should also highlight the long and good track record of DC as a safe source for software.

Add to that a DC pledge icon we all use to link to that page from dcmembers pages and in forum posts for newly made software. The icon could go also on the DC main page and other big landing pages.

I really like your ideas, Nod5.

  • BehindTheOverlay - removes those dark overlays that obscure your view of webpage content.

two better links:
https://addons.mozil.../behind_the_overlay/
https://github.com/N...NMV/BehindTheOverlay

One of my fav pages is using black overlays too often for my (lack of) patience. So, thanks for informing!

Edited:
It didn't work on this "old" Firefox 23 - even with forced compatibility.

General Software Discussion / Re: No more Filehippo for me

FileHippo moved to bundled installers

^the tech term may be different, probably "Web installer"? "Web download & install manager"? I don't remember.

The "web" point being that (besides SUPER) it will offer you some different programs, next time you run the same SUPERsetup.exe again.

General Software Discussion / No more Filehippo for me
« Last post by Curt on March 06, 2015, 11:51 AM »
It is difficult for me to describe just how disappointed I am with Filehippo and SUPER/eRightSoft.

We knew that the eRightSoft homepage author was a blithering idiot, because he made it impossible for visitors to find where to download the company's product: SUPER. But that was why Filehippo was (not is) the place to go, if you wanted to download the otherwise fine SUPER converter. On Filehippo it is easy to find where to download SUPER, so that's where we went.

And as usual Filehippo would supply a clean file, wouldn't they.
No, they won't! They would, but they won't!!

I want to tell you the story, but I need to say upfront that Opera was installed without my acceptance!  :o

Of course I was soon aware that this has become adware:

2015-03-06_170708.gif

"Okay, I know how to unselect", I thought, and went on installing.

Notice, there is no [X] (no red Exit -button), but "Close" is spelled & greyed out
and moved to the lower left corner, (where "Close" never is situated in Windows)
and normal installation is now custom installation for experts only,

also, this picture is misleading, because all extra programs were pre-selected by default
(before I realized I needed to take some screenshots):

2015-03-06_170754.gif

^ Did you notice that Opera will "be SUGGESTED"

--------

These warnings came during installation, when I unselected the extra offers:
"You removed a program. This will affect your computer. Abort?"
What would you click here? The answer is not OK...

affect.gif

My PC might not be infected, it is infected! (Yes, by this application!)

2015-03-06_182236.gif

2015-03-06_171559.gif

^ This Uniblue program is called "Speed Up", so I tried to be speedy, but I was too slow:
Even though I clicked Decline
(can you even find the "Decline" -button?)
half of Speed Up  and all of Opera  were installed!!!

This was too much for me; it is not acceptable behaviour, even from greedy, blithering idiots.

In my old-fashioned mind Filehippo should be above this. But on the contrary, Filehippo is the central part of it.
No more Filehippo for me!

you will need a html EDITOR, if you want to use dynamicdrive/jQuery treeview

But I think the company behind the "All-In-One Diagram Software" Edraw Max Pro may offer what  you want. Look around at their site; Edraw Max Pro is the Master, but you may want one of their many, cheaper versions. http://www.edrawsoft.com/

You could also use any "mind-mapper"-program.

Hello רמי , thank you for visiting!
I don't know, but I was told RTMP only is for Adobe flash, not for genuine video.

You may want to try NirSoft:

RTMPDumpHelper: http://www.nirsoft.n...tmp_dump_helper.html
VideoCacheView: http://www.nirsoft.n...ideo_cache_view.html
WebVideoCap: http://www.nirsoft.n...b_video_capture.html

If you still think UrlSnooper is the program you want to learn how to use, you should go to the program's homepage for support:
https://www.donation...index.php?board=17.0
and maybe ask your question there.
