Finished Programs / Re: Folder-RSS: Monitor folder changes via rss
« Last post by justice on March 10, 2008, 04:59 AM »
Hi apfel, I received your bugreport and I'm sorry you found those issues, I remember one of them lol. The code should only have one set of rss tags! I'll have a look at the issues you reported, hopefully in the next few weeks I can post an updated version. It is possible that the bugs you reported with the XML parsing prevent any newsreader from reading it as it breaks the scheme :(

I have success with Opera 9.20:
If you just right click on the rss feed and do Open with -> opera you will get a url like:
file://localhost/C:\rss\test.xml

Now go to the menu bar Feeds -> Manage Feed -> Add -> enter file://localhost/C:\rss\test.xml as the url and it should load.

I am not too sure Mr Atkinson recently updated this list.

Adobe Dreamweaver to NVU: While this tool is a powerful WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor, other options exist that can save money. NVU (pronounced N-view, for a “new view”) is a complete Web Authoring System for Linux Desktop users as well as Microsoft Windows users to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Use NVU to create Web pages and manage a Website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML.
-Atkinson

To my understanding NVU was abandoned 2005. One can say it was replaced by KompoZer, "Nvu's unofficial bug-fix release", but I would expect Mr Atkinson to tell so, if his work had been just a little updated.
Yep and editing html in dreamweaver is only a fraction of what dreamweaver is capable of.

Living Room / Re: Kodak (Complaint)
« Last post by justice on February 28, 2008, 05:59 AM »
If you didn't already realise, it looks like you've just been sent a repaired model from someone else. The rest of this post is how I understand things to be in the UK. Here in the UK, as within two months a fault developed with the camera, you can argue that the fault was a production fault and you should get a brand new replacement, not a repaired one. Also because of the manufacturing error you shouldn't be out of pocket to return the camera. Finally, you are only dealing either with Bestbuy where you got the camera, or with Kodak. It probably would have been best to take the camera back to bestbuy and let them handle it, in retrospect. However you have nothing to do with the repair company so Kodak should be chasing it up and you could sent them the receipts for the phone calls and shipping / handling. They could argue that the period between the fault occuring and sending the camera away was substantial which would weaken your case a little and add frustration for you so be prepared for that. Then there's the issue of any pictures that were on the camera that you sent off..

However I have no knowledge of US consumer protection.

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera Dragonfly
« Last post by justice on February 27, 2008, 06:42 PM »
maybe: ;-) although they very likely wouldn't present it as coming soon
Some users of Opera's mobile browser complained about the switch from Google to Yahoo after last year's change. Given the length of time Opera and Google have worked together, it was surprising Yahoo ever entered the equation.

Maybe it's time to spark up new whispers of Google acquiring Opera, as has been rumored a few times over the past couple of years. That event certainly won't surprise industry observers if it comes to pass, but YouTube notwithstanding, Google tends to favor smaller acquisitions.

I think its something to do with handhelds, seeing as the two stylesheets in the source are the regular one and a handheld one, even in the regular one i see references to a handheld class, why go through so much bother for a splashpage - it must be the css for the full site which leads me to say they're targetting handhelds.

maybe its opera for the iphone :P

oked up why I had those files and
if you choose to participate in the customer improvment program then you get those files which are hidden in the root, then sent to ms and removed. if you answer not to participate then no files are ever created. if you don't answer then the files are created but nothing done with them.

hmm, i hope it supports css3
no:
Windows Intenet Explorer 8 is the next version of the Internet Explorer browser developed by Microsoft after Internet Explorer 7. [1][2], with a beta version planned for release in the first half of 2008.[3] From the blog and based on the conferences of MIX 2007; RSS, CSS, Ajax, microformats, more options for user interface customization and improved web development tools are possibilities for inclusion into the forthcoming version of Internet Explorer, with security still being the top priority.[4] Microsoft is investing in support for more of the CSS 2.1 specification as well as changes to the DOM for interoperability with other web browsers.[4] HasLayout functionality will also be eliminated in IE8.[5]

I just wanted to thank you mouser for URlsnooper, it's a great program. I play secondlife regularly and URL snooper manages to find the radio streams used there even though in SL itself the url is masked out. Very nice and there's nothing I'd really like to see added.  :Thmbsup:

Best E-mail Client / Re: Pegasus Mail?

Thunderbird uses the industry standard mbox format, outlook has its own format yes. However you can manually export folders (such as your inbox) into access, excel, csv and plain text. I've never used it.

I heard they said when the audio-cd arrived that prices would drop and they never did (at least in europe), i'm not sure about DVDs. Are they still just as expensive (new release) as when they were introduced? The players will probably become cheaper but usually there's a comon price point for the media itself. That was my perception.

actually this would be great as a firefox extension in the context menu of selected text, lightbox style

I'm not sure how less competition will make prices drop but we'll see how it goes. I'll just stay with DVD. I don't have a LCD/plasma tv, its CRT widescreen 28 inch without surround sound or cinema home entertainment system. To me it doesn't make any sense to spend more on this setup while there is nothing on tv haha. Movies are good though.

Developer's Corner / Re: Help with autohotkey: Command line switches
« Last post by justice on February 18, 2008, 05:16 AM »
I'm not sure what you're trying to get achieved but i think this is what you're looking for:
mycommand=%1%
myothercommand=%2%
myotherothercommand=%3%

If mycommand = 1
{
MsgBox, success
}
else

If myothercommand = 1
{
MsgBox, failure
}
else
If myotherothercommand = 1
{
MsgBox, nothing
}

ExitApp

then call it like this:

  • argumenttest 1
  • argumenttest 0 1
first one will show success, second one failure

Good link thanks! Will come in handy in the future! I never understand how to make a screensaver from an exe file, renaming doesn't seem to do the trick.

Post New Requests Here / app that removes button from dialogue box?
« Last post by justice on February 11, 2008, 08:24 AM »
Wondering if anyone knows or can create a quick app that removes the RUN button from the run/save box that pops up on a download in Internet Explorer. I want to disable or remove the run button on a computer as SetSafer makes sure programs can't be run from IE.

I found programs to enable a disabled button, and programs that automatically click a certain button.

Find And Run Robot / [vista bug] myalias files not available
« Last post by justice on February 11, 2008, 04:25 AM »
Under vista, in the preferences under the alias tab, the myalias file is not available from the dropdown. Therefore by default it's not possible to add / edit any aliases. Also the farr preferences and aliases are located under C:\Users\<username>\Documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups. Yes under "my documents". Not sure if this is on purpose but different from XP.

Coding Snacks / Re: structured plaintextfile based note taker
« Last post by justice on February 11, 2008, 02:12 AM »
Just in case it helps, I'm using http://WikidPad now to keep my notes. It's not plain text, however the additional wiki like features help me to organize and cross link information (and build table of contents for each category) which is a genuine benefit over plain text. I installed a copy at work and home and the wiki database is held on a JungleDisk drive (amazon s3 but could just as well be webdav for example). The wiki can be exported to html / xml and the application is open source, which means my data and application will be available in the future. Minireview on Donationcoder. It's not available on other OSes though which proved to be a pain last week.

However Keynote was really good if you choose to stick with plaintext. I still can't understand how SQLNotes work.
