The place that came to my mind first was DonationCoder and I have posted banners pointing here on my web.

Thank you, that is very sweet  :-*

What's the difference in those two scenarios?

You make a very good point.

I think it comes down to who we view as the bad guy, bully, cheater, freeloader, or exploiter in any given scenario..

Sometimes it feels like the "original inventor" is abusing the system by suing everyone who has a similar idea -- using their money to scare off reasonable alternatives and making tons of money through legal extortion.

And sometimes it feels like some big company has just walked all over a small inventor and used their influence and marketing dollars and aggression to trample over and bury the original developer.

Yep, this is the same problem.

Now, the new version is likely to "fix" this problem for you that you may not want fixed.  Thankfully if that's the case just go to the Image Capture tab option and set CHS to "Force DPI" to 300.  That will get you back to old behavior.

Ok, that was quite a bit more work than I expected, but try this alpha version:

https://www.donation...oardHelpAndSpell.zip

Please note, this is only a replacement exe not a setup file, so you need to exit CHS, overwrite your old ClipboardHelpAndSpell.exe with the one in the zip, and then restart.

There are TWO improvements in this version:

First, CHS should now hopefully successfully grab the DPI information from image clips it finds on the clipboard, and preserve them when saving image files and pasting images.  This should solve your problem and any problems relating to CHS *changing* the DPI of images on the clipboard that already have good DPI information in them.

Second, there is a new optional option in CHS Image Capture tab, that allows you to FORCE the dpi when pasting images.. This could be useful in cases where you are copying clips to the clipboard that do not have DPI information and you want the DPI to be forced when you paste the images.  You should *not* need to mess with this new option because your explanation make clear that the images on the clipboard have good DPI info.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

Thank you for your testing and reporting -- that gave me the piece of the puzzle I needed.

I see I can in fact control the DPI of a bitmap file placed on clipboard, so essentially i now know how to solve this.

I will add an option in the CHS options to set the DPI of pasted images; that should solve your problem.  I may try to upload a test version in the next 30 minutes so stay tuned.

now that is surprising and interesting.

Ok, will try there.
Here's something you could do for me.

Run this program "c:\windows\system32\clipbrd.exe" which should be installed on your pc by default; it reports on the format in the clipbard.  Well it doesnt really report on it but in the VIEW menu you can see info about what format the data is in.

What I'd like to know is what the View menu says when you are not using CHS to paste the image into the program, vs what it says when CHS is controlling the image.  When CHS is doing it, the View menu should just show two formats at the bottom (DIB, Bitmap).

Can you tell me some example programs where pasting it results in this small size.  You say email but you dont say what email client, etc.  I need to reproduce the problem before I can solve it.

What may be happening is that the default way to copy an image to the clipboard is to copy it as a bitmap, which does not have any DPI information. And when that is done, your email client is assuming its a small physical size image and displaying it as such.

But that when you copy the original image to the clipboard using some other tool, it's saving it to the clipboard in multiple formats, including some image formats that include dpi information which the email client can use.

But I'm still curious about how you are pasting the image into your email client when you do and do not use CHS.

When you paste the image into your email client not using CHS, and it looks fine, you are using CTRL+V to paste it into your email, and it's pasting it directly right, not as an explicit file attachment.

And when you paste using CHS, you are using CTRL+V again?

it has to be something related to how CHS puts bitmaps on the clipboard and not putting dpi information with it.. probably something very simple.

Thanks for posting that -- I happen to love these kinds of side-by-side comparison articles of new stuff vs the old stuff they ripped off or copied (whether the ripoff is real or imagined or coincidental).

I am testing a fix to this which should be in upcoming version 2.202 release.  Sorry it's taken so long to fix  :-[

talking with wmajoe we found a bug that was using the checkboxes for the first find+replace field was enabling/disabling the others.

fix will be in next update which should be this coming week.

workaround for now: leave all find+replace fields checked. and just blank them out if you dont want to use them.

It sounds like you are describing a bug but i'm not following you exactly.. Can you clarify?

I wonder about this as well -- it's come up before -- it has to be something about the default DPI assumed when pasting.  Anyone have any ideas about this?

Do most apps copy images to the clipboard that get pasted in your email at the correct size?
10797
It does seem like something that would be useful to be able to do, so I am interested in making sure it can be done fairly easily with either SC or MiniCap.  Perhaps someone might even write a coding snack that will periodically trigger MiniCap and the upload.
10798
Well that's excellent news!

When you get a chance if you could see if you can figure out any clues about why those shortcuts in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games" aren't working properly.. I wonder if it's related to the issue described here.
10799
That's an interesting question.

Actually it seems like it might be several questions.

Let's take them one by one:

Can you have Screenshot Captor take an image every X minutes: yes.
Can you have Screenshot Captor take images while it stays hidden out of the way: yes.
Can you have Screenshot Captor automatically upload every image it takes using an external tool like ZUploader: yes.
Can ZUploader be told to overwrite the new uploaded file with same name as previous upload: i'm not sure, please check and tell us.

Can you have Screenshot Captor be taking these automatic captures of a specific window: not explicitly.
You are the first person who has actually ask for this, it's not a bad idea, though it's a bit awkward.  You can have SC take a screenshot of active window, but then when you switch away to another window the automatic capturing will start capturing the newly selected window.  And if you do a repeat-region capture that will have problems if the window in question is off-screen.

Now, it seems to me that your best bet might actually be not to use Screenshot Captor, but to use it's little brother tool, the commandline based MiniCap.   You could invoke MiniCap from another tool every so often and pass it commandline options to take a screenshot of a specific window by window id or name, save it as a specific name, and then invoke your uploader or ftp tool on that file.

Now I *think* that will work even if the target window is minimized/offscreen but i'm not 100% sure, so you'd have to test that.  If it doesn't let me know, because there may be a capture method that CAN, even if im not using it by default -- and I'd be willing to add that to MiniCap.

In summary, try investigating SC and MiniCap and let me know how far you get, and maybe we can try to get you the last bit of the way there once we know what the problems are.

This does seem like something that might be doable with my Find and Run Robot program (or with a plugin for it?).
