The environment variable support seems to work fine for the target of an entry. Could the support maybe be extended to the arguments and the working directory?

Please test this interim build and see if it works now for the args and working dir.  http://skwire.dcmemb...pps/splat/Splat_.zip

I also noticed that no app/file icon is displayed if you use an environment variable in the target path, but thats fine with me.

I'll see if there is anything I can do about this.

  • Running a profile from command line/shortcut works great! I understand that the progress is reflected in the tray icon, but I added a 'Run' entry at the end of my profiles that plays a notification sound when the profile is done launching
You know, I could easily add a "Play sound" action...    ;)

Thanks again for the app - it has instantly risen to the Olymp of my daily used apps! ;)

I'm glad you've found the application useful.   :)

N.A.N.Y. 2014 / Re: NANY 2014 Release - epCheck
« Last post by skwire on January 13, 2015, 06:28 PM »
So I came over here and found 1.1.5.163 and that seems to unzip all the data but epCheck does enter into (Not Responding) a half a dozen times or so.

The problem is two-fold:

  • I use the 7-zip application to handle the unzipping so while it's actually unzipping a file, epCheck can't do anything but wait.  However, most of the zips are pretty small so the waits here shouldn't affect things much.
  • The bigger issue at hand is that the TVDB.com site has been really slow lately.  Most of the Not Responding is epCheck simply waiting for the zip downloads to finish.

It's rather frustrating as there isn't a whole lot that I can do about it.  Sadly, the best advice I can give is to simply leave epCheck alone while it's doing the updates.

I'm trying Splat simply for opening a group of files - it seems like a great way to open, and keep a record of, files related to a specific query/topic/whatever.

Very nice.  I've been doing something similar as well.

  • Having hotkeys is great, but would you consider a generic shortcut to launch the selected profile e.g. Enter; or Ctrl+Enter
  • would it be possible to run one entry in a profile (I presume this could also be advantageous when testing) either via context menu, or again, with Enter or variation on same

Actually, both are already on my ToDo list.  Keep in mind that copy/paste should work between profiles so you can keep a simple TEST profile.  That's what I do for now.

And by "later today" I really meant three days later.  However, it's a huge update with many new additions and features.

@lujomu: I think have environment variables working.  Please test and let me know.
@pamu: You can now right-click a profile and create a desktop shortcut to run that profile without seeing the user interface.

Again, lots of changes so please read the changelog and report any bugs.

v1.0.3 - 2015-01-12
+ Added an entry to the Profiles menu that can create a shortcut on the
desktop which directly runs a Splat profile.  Profiles launched in this
manner will display the tray icon for the duration of the profile and then
exit.  The full Splat interface will NOT be displayed.
+ Added support for environment variables.  (Thanks, lujomu)
+ Added 'Clear log before each profile launch' option.
+ Added ability to specify a window's title or partial title when closing a
program.  This can help with the reliability of the close action.
+ Added ability to run a profile within a profile.
+ Added optional, Alt+F4 close method to the Close action.
+ Added a real, honest-to-goodness help file.  Really.
    * Consolidated some of the "Close application" settings.
    * Tray icon now displays a triangular blue run icon when a profile is
      running.
! Moving a profile didn't update the tray profile menu.
    ! Undo/Redo were broken.

N.A.N.Y. Challenge 2007 / Re: AHK for getting text from Cell in Excel
« Last post by skwire on January 13, 2015, 12:29 AM »
Hi, onyxonyx1, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :)  Is there any reason you posted this in the NANY 2007 section?

Can you help me to get text from a Cell in Excel?
I tried using GetVisibleWindow text but I cannot get it to get the text from the Cell.

The GetVisibleWindow text isn't going to work for Excel.  You will need to use the COM interface as described here:

Hi, pamu, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :)

Is there a way to run the program and automatically run a profile (and then stop the prg)?

Yes, that capability is already in my dev build which should be released later today.

General Software Discussion / Re: Spam complications

Also, for the record, I've run my own email server for over ten years so I use, and I'm plenty familiar with, Spam Assassin and such.  However, what I'm not familiar with is how this sort of thing is handled when email is hosted by a third-party.  And, because I host all my own servers, I'm not up-to-snuff on good, fairly-priced hosting providers.  Hence, my request for Hans to post here when he asked for my help regarding his email issues.  I hope that helps to clear things up a bit.

For the record, Hans is a longtime, online friend of mine that I asked to post here with his question.  He's been an active member of the Becky email client mailing list that I've run on YahooGroups for nearly ten years now.  =]  Help him out!

I've uploaded a new beta that, hopefully, fixes the "There was a problem unzipping the series data. You might have to run epCheck as an administrator." error.  It was due to incomplete/corrupt zip downloads from TVDB.com.  epCheck now checks for that and should handle it appropriately.  If you test it out, please let me know if you see the error again.

Living Room / Re: Can anyone help break "router block"?
« Last post by skwire on January 05, 2015, 11:48 AM »
You might want to look into routers that support the Tomato firmware.  I use Tomato on my ASUS RT-N66U router and it has an access restriction feature that looks like it fits your requirements.  Disclaimer: I don't use this feature.  Here's a screenshot:

Wow, really great app!

Thanks.  I'm glad you find it useful.  =]

I really like how the app handles dropping of shortcuts (LNK files) on the action list. It creates a run action with target, argument and working directory all filled out for you. Just discovered that feature by accident ... you should maybe put that in the description - makes the creation of profiles so much easier!

I probably should add that as I intentionally coded it that way.

I also have a minor suggestions if thats ok:
Would it be possible to obey environment variables? So that we could use something like '%UserProfile%\Documents\VeryImportantDocument.pdf' regardless of the current user name? Or so portable apps could be launched regardless of the current drive letter?

I think this should be doable.  Let me do some testing and see what I can manage.

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / NANY 2015 Release - Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination)
« Last post by skwire on December 31, 2014, 09:15 PM »
NANY 2015 Entry Information

Application Name Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination)
Supported OSes Windows 7.  Might work, but not tested on, Windows XP/Vista/8/10
Web Page Website
Download Link Download
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination) is a program that allows you to build launch profiles that can include the following: 1) Launching applications, files, folders, URLs, etc., 2) The closing/killing of processes, and 3) Starting and stopping of services.  You control the order and you can also insert two types of delays in between actions: 1) Time-based delays (wait n number of seconds before going on) and 2) CPU-usage delays (wait until the CPU usage gets below a certain percentage).  Hotkey support is extensive; each launch profile can have its own hotkey or you can use one hotkey to launch multiple profiles.  Profiles can be launched via the main interface, hotkeys, or the tray icon.  Usage examples include:

  • Startup profile to control the timing and order of which apps you want to start after booting your computer.
  • Pre-gaming profile to close/kill/stop unwanted processes and services.
  • Post-gaming profile to open/start those same processes and services.
  • URL groups to launch sets of websites.
  • Development profile to start up your IDE, debugger, etc.

Screenshots

main.png

Installation
Download the zip file and extract its contents into a new folder.  Run Splat.exe to start the application.

Uninstallation
Uncheck the "Start with Windows" option if you enabled it and then delete the folder you unzipped it to.

ToDo
  • Commandline parameter support to run a profile without seeing the GUI.

Notes
  • If you plan to use the service starting/stopping functionality, you must run this program with administrator rights.
  • Dragging and dropping shortcut files (.LNK) onto the form automatically pulls in any configured arguments and working directories.

« Last post by skwire on December 28, 2014, 08:00 PM »
Hi, lohnje, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :)

An option of showing covers of epubs in a folder would be a nice thing to have. This would then be similar to a library view.
Is this possible, either for RecursiView or another app?

This isn't going to happen for RecursiView but I can recommend Calibre for all your ebook needs.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: SFV Ninja (Simple File Verification application)
« Last post by skwire on December 27, 2014, 10:45 PM »
I just noticed that the "Total" bar is broken. It either doesn't update at all or, when verifying newly added files, gets stuck in a partial state (bar never goes to the end). It was working fine in 1.2.6.

Sorry about that.   :-[

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: SFV Ninja (Simple File Verification application)

Hi, xviruz, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :)

1. Do not remember "full screen" as the last used resolution. It's a bit annoying when the program starts up un-maximized but still takes up the entire screen.

2. Faster skips for files with saved checksums. It takes over 10 mins to go through 10k or so files that already have saved checksums when using "verify new files only" (Win 7 x64, Core i5, 8GB RAM, 7200RPM Seagate drive). I'm not sure why that is---if this is all in memory, it should very fast. If GUI is the issue, update it less frequently?

Both these items should be addressed in the latest version I just uploaded.  Please test and let me know.  Links at bottom.

3. Allow the comment to display "This file has been modified" when a file's modified timestamp is later than the SFV's creation timestamp. If the timestamp metadata is pulled together with file size when scanning files, there should be no performance penalty. Though, I'd understand if you think this bloats the program in a negative way.

The timestamp data is not currently pulled for each file so I'm not certain how much cumulative time this would add.  So, how important is this feature to you?

Thanks for all your hard work.

You're very welcome.

v1.2.7 - 2014-12-26
    * Better window handling when launching the app after it had been closed in
      a maximised state.  (Thanks, xviruz)

      checksum in place.  (Thanks, xviruz)
