Next version will have an improvement and option for this, where you can change the maximum excerpt size to 255 (see Tweak tab of options), and hint on clip hover will now show full excerpt size with newlines preserved.

Surely it's a bug in the program of some sort.. I might have to send you a special debug version that writes out a log file with more information about where it is when it crashes, to give us some clues.

Chris, this was such a good idea that I copied it and added it as a feature of my Clipboard Help+Spell program (not yet in official release, but it's in the beta).

I gave you credit in the help manual and I hope you'll see it as a sign of flattery and not be irritated; most people who want this function will probably be better off with your small utility -- I just thought it was something that my CHS users should have as a built-in-option!

v2.16.01 - October 18, 2012
  • [Feature] Added new quick template, paste template menu, print template, and quick-template hotkey; all let you configure more elaborate text templates to be used when pasting or printing clips to add additional information and formatting.  See "Paste Template" tab in options.
  • [Improvement] When manually adding new clip via NewClip button, it will automatically be selected regardless of grid sorting.
  • [BugFix] When CHS was set to StayOnTop, options form was showing behind main form.
  • [BugFix] Attempt to fix bug with Ctrl+Alt+C forced Ctrl+C sending (capture beep sound should no longer play if a new clip was not captured).
  • [Feature] Added new quickpaste popup menu item to show additional actions menu (shift+click menu) for first clip.
  • [Feature] Added paste-as-file action in quick paste shift clip menu -- copied this idea from a cool utility by DC member c.gingerich called "Paste As File" (see http://starpunch.net/?page=8).

Quickest way to use the new PasteAsFile feature:
  • Copy whatever you want to clipboard (image or text)
  • Then go to a file explorer (or email client, etc.), wherever you want to paste the clip as a file.
  • Hit Ctrl+Alt+Q to bring up the CHS quickpaste menu
  • Hit P to show the extra-actions menu for the last copied clip
  • Hit F to trigger the "Paste as File" menu item
  • Hit Enter to use default filename.

However, there is also some sporadic (doesn't happen every time) creation of new "canvas" rectangles on pasting into OneNote, rather than the Paste content staying within the canvas I had left the cursor in prior to making the paste

see if you can find any clue to why this happens.. it's possible it has to do with CHS not giving the application (onenote) time to refocus.. i could try adding a tweak option to give this more time to try to see if this is indeed the cause..

I think this may be because my AHK script forces the Paste to be made from the Clipboard buffer, with all formatting intact, so it bypasses the CHS processing.

Yes, remember, CHS does not take over normal Ctrl+V pasting.. it's only going to do this if you paste using the CHS paste function.  Note that you can however set a custom hotkey that will paste the last clip using the template.

Regarding filter, can you try using the field "Description" instead of Notes.. I named it Description in the database for some unknown reason.

Check your grid to make sure the URL is being captured in the Notes column; no point in us trying to debug the template feature if it's not even capturing the URL.

Basically you can now set a paste template that will be used on EVERY paste (checkbox toggles), OR only when a special hotkey is used, OR create a menu of paste templates that are shown when you bring up the Shift+Click Paste menu for a clip (that's the menu you get after you bring up quick paste and then shift+click on an item).

Tip: The date format for clip dates comes from the CustomDate format on the "Clipboard" tab of options.

In the same Template options tab, you can also now set the template used when printing clips.

Also when I open DCUpdater the icons for the plugins (like hnote, Fcalc aren't displayed, same icofx icon).

this is a big clue that the problem is not in FARR itself but in some system icon problem.. maybe rebuilding icon cache will fix it?

I think something else must be causing your problem dayless.. some problem with explorer displaying icons..
If you open up windows explorer and browse around, do you see proper icons?

Did the prior version of FARR show correct icons?  I can re-upload the old version to test if needed.

That's normal.. you have to install plugins if you want them -- they don't come pre-installed, even though you might think they do from looking at the "plugins" folder after installation (that folder is just populated with placeholders).

One of the things you regret as an adult is that you didn't stand up enough for those who were picked on at school, didn't extend your hand enough to the outcasts.

For those of you on this forum who are still young and in school.  If you see someone being picked on, stand up for them, show them a friendly face and reach out your hand.  You'd be surprised at how much it can mean to someone to have someone reach out to them and extend a friendly hand.

The main file you want to back up is: FindAndRunRobot.ini, which contains all your settings.

Additionally, if you have created custom aliases, you want to back up:
  • AliasGroups\MyCustom\*.alias

If you also want to save your lists of launched files and searches, which isn't very important, you could also back up:
  • FindAndRunRobot_searchhistory.ini
  • FindAndRunRobot_launchhistory.ini

These files will be in the MyDocs\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot directory on windows vista and later, or in ProgramFiles\Find and Run Robot\ on win xp.
