vemundha, can you try this version:
https://www.donation...AndRunRobotSetup.exe

It uses slightly different code for simulating the Ctrl+C copy hotkey.

When I launch it from browser url I see a right click context menu flashing in the background

now that is interesting.. it does copy to the clipboard for me, but i also see the flash of the context menu.. i wonder why that is happening.. i wonder if i could be sending some simulated keystroke that i don't realize i'm sending..

Update:

v2.16.02 - October 22, 2012
  • [Feature] Added new quick template, paste template menu, print template, and quick-template hotkey; all let you configure more elaborate text templates to be used when pasting or printing clips to add additional information and formatting.  See "Paste Template" tab in options.
  • [Improvement] When manually adding new clip via NewClip button, it will automatically be selected regardless of grid sorting.
  • [BugFix] When CHS was set to StayOnTop, options form was showing behind main form.
  • [BugFix] Attempt to fix bug with Ctrl+Alt+C forced Ctrl+C sending (capture beep sound should no longer play if a new clip was not captured).
  • [Feature] Added new quickpaste popup menu item to show additional actions menu (shift+click menu) for first clip.
  • [Feature] Added paste-as-file action in quick paste shift clip menu; see Paste As File option tab for default filename templates.  This idea was copied from a cool utility by DC member c.gingerich called "Paste As File" (see http://starpunch.net/?page=8).
  • [Feature] Maximum excerpt size in database now increased to 255; new option on Tweak tab to change max size of excerpt actually captured.
  • [Feature] New clip hint on quick-paste menu shows maximum excerpt size, and with newlines preserved in hint.
  • [Feature] Added new column for each clip record to store the active window title (WindowTitle).

  • [BugFix] FARR was not showing proper icons for shortcuts that use custom icons.
  • [Change] Changed default heuristic score of folder as % of file score from 90 to 50, because folders were showing up above files in some cases.
  • [Documentation] Added info about using CapsLock to trigger FARR.
  • [MinorFeature] Added option to not launch results via function keys.

N.A.N.Y. 2013 / NANY 2013 Pledge: VH website - CANCELED
« Last post by mouser on October 22, 2012, 10:37 AM »
Top secret experimental strange web site project idea.
Details to be revealed later..

This has been canceled for NANY 2013, probably never to be implemented.

The strange idea I had was to create a site where you could create a very very simple online virtual version of a deceased pet or friend, configure the kinds of activities they liked to spend their time doing, and then have the program/website be a place where this virtual version of them could be happy doing the things they liked doing.

So for example if you had a cat companion for 15 years who passed away, you could create a kind of virtual heaven for them, describe the places they liked to sleep, the toys they loved, the food they loved, etc.,  and then their virtual version could spend it's days doing those things and you could check in on them every once and a while to see how they were doing and leave them gifts, etc.  no graphics just simple text updates.

If you created it for a human who passed on you could send them books to read, etc.

Anyway, some people send the idea was possibly psychologically damaging, as it might impede the healing/grieving process.  I don't know.. Seemed like an interesting enough idea to try to implement, and that it might be a nice tribute to lost ones.

I might still implement it someday.

Find And Run Robot / Re: New CPanel alias discussion and suggestions
« Last post by mouser on October 21, 2012, 11:33 AM »
Alias results don't currently show in launch history; the reason they showed in previous version and not now is that they used to be handled by shortcut files in a special directory and now they're handled by an alias.

The request that alias results be added to launch history is not a new one.. I think I will be adding it soon.

10684
If you downloaded the new version in the last two hours please redownload the just uploaded new version -- previous version had a bug that would give error on paste.
10685
Your requests are part of a handful of features that combined make up *the* big item on my todo list:
Capturing of arbitrarily sized arbitrary data types.

I will be adding these, but not in the next release.
10686
I have uploaded a new beta; there is now a new dedicated column/field for all clips which stores the active window title, and it can be used explicitly in Paste Templates, referred to by %WindowTitle%.

(again this will field will only be non-blank work for new clips captured since the new beta was installed).

Living Room / Re: Remember to make full drive image backups
« Last post by mouser on October 20, 2012, 03:57 PM »
I think an important way to think about backing up stuff is to consider what you are protecting yourself AGAINST.

I make full drive images to protect myself against a hard drive failure, or a malware attack; in such a scenario the only good option is to restore the entire operating system and all installed programs to a known good state.  The odds of this happening are very low on a day to day basis, so I don't do this very often -- perhaps once a month.  I try to do this to external drives which are only connected for this purpose.

I have versioned document backups running in real time, onto a separate hard drive mounted on my pc; I do this to protect myself from accidentally deleted a file i later realize i need, or making changes to a document that i realize i shouldn't have, etc.  This has to run all the time.

Now this dual approach takes care of most of my WORRIES.  However, I have recently forced myself to use an online backup system.  Even though I dislike the speed of such a thing, I am forcing myself to use it because it's the only protection I have against a fire or robbery that would result in the PHYSICAL loss of both my computer and my onsite backup drives, or against the unlikely scenario of a voracious malware that struck while my backup drives were connected.  This is a very low risk event, but the total catastrophic loss that would result from it is enough to scare me into using an online backup solution.

Keeping an old ENCRYPTED full drive image at a friends house (or safety deposit box) is also a good protection against robbery+fire.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Not-so-mini review of CrashPlan backup software

I posed an update on this thread about my recent (and someone reluctant) purchase of CrashPlan family plan.

General Software Discussion / Re: Help me choose an online backup service
« Last post by mouser on October 20, 2012, 03:47 PM »
I stopped using CrashPlan because of the outrageous hogging memory issues, and I'm still pissed off about that, but I thought it only right that I post again and say that I just purchased a 1yr family plan subscription to CrashPlan, using the 50% discount offer described for past carbonite users described here (looks like it doesn't care what email you put in by the way).

The main reason I came back to crash plan is that for this price ($50 for first year, $120 normal yearly price) you can configure something like 10 pcs to have their files backed up online.  While the memory hogging is a serious problem for my primary pc, which i will have to go try to solve by messing with the java settings, this was simply too good an offer not to jump on for backing up the other spare pcs/laptops in my house, and offering the space for my immediate family.

Put another way, I'm not at all convinced that CrashPlan is the right solution for someone with a single PC with tons of files to backup, but if you have a bunch of PCs with a small number of files, it seems like an excellent deal and from what I read you are unlikely to run into the memory hogging issues if you have small backup file sets.

So CrashPlan seems ideal for putting on every computer in the family to make sure that it backs up working documents, etc.  For example I've been keeping the books for the building on a laptop which has no other purpose than to keep the books.. I'm not going to pay backblaze $60/year just to keep 5 files backed up online.  CrashPlan seems well suited for this.

(Though I will note that for such small file sets, I could get away with one of the free online backup services, or one of the low-volume backup services).

But anyway, although not perfect, I do think CrashPlan seems like a good solution for people with lots of PCs (or who can be responsible for setting up multiple PCs for their family members).  And at $50 for a year, seems hard to go wrong.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.. (NO I AM NOT WRONG).

One VERY important note for people setting up backups of multiple family PCs:  *ALL* computers are forced to have the SAME encryption password and account access(!).  This means that anyone on any of these PCs could access the backed up files of any of the other PCs.

This feels like a major security risk to me, though I suppose it's useful in keeping people from sharing a family plan with non-family members.  But you should know that this fact may severely limit the usefulness of the family plan.

Very uncool.

Ok this is an excellent question, and it's bound to be a source of confusion.

The "Paste Templates" work with clips stored in the database.  The clips in the database do not record the window title associated with each clip.  They only record the application name.  The %Title% field refers to the clip "Title" column in the grid.

Now, at the time of capturing a clip, the Window Title *IS* available at the moment of capture, and you can use this window title as part of what gets stored as the clip record "title"..  Confusing isn't it?

Let me explain it in another way.  If you go into CHS options, on the "Clipboard" tab you will see a box for "Clip Naming"; this is where you set the title column for the clips in the database.  Here you can use "%windowtitle%" if you wish.  (By default the clip Title is the date and application name).

So what you could do is modify that field to save the window title, and then when you use %Title% in the Paste Template, you'd get the clip record title, which would include the window title..

Perhaps I should add a new column for every clip that stores the captured window title explicitly for every clip?

That would solve this problem and perhaps be useful in finding relevant clips when searching and filtering..

New beta up, just bugfixes.
10693
a brief 8 line letter in Word.

are you sure the 8 lines aren't one "word-wrapped" paragraph?

try this, make a new word document with contents like:
"one
two
three"

and copy that and see if it shows up as multiple lines in the CHS hover hint.
10694
Make sure you have the option checked to grab URLs as notes, on Capture Options tab:

It's not possible in current version, but I'll probably add it later.  Newlines should be preserved -- if the original is one large line, that's what you'll see.

We're talking about on the Quick Paste popup menu right? (Ctrl+Alt+Q hotkey by default).

I'm a little unclear about what you are saying -- you say you can alter the size but you can't?  And we're talking about the Quick Paste popup menu right? (Ctrl+Alt+Q hotkey by default).

Change the excerpt size to 255 on the Tweak page, and then capture NEW clips.  It won't affect old ones.
