on top of updates, Adobe also bundle Norton Security Scan which users have to opt-out else they end up with duplicate anti-malware software fighting for resources on the PC.. widespread usage of HTML5 can't come soon enough.

« Last post by lanux128 on October 27, 2010, 09:39 PM »
KMPlayer's author is developing another media player: Daum PotPlayer. there is a thread in Doom9's forums which keeps track of the progress.

new version based on Chromium 7 is now available.. among others there is a beta GPU-supported rendering. this can be enabled via a cmd-line parameter: --enable-accelerated-compositing. haven't tried that though..

about that, i posted in the forums about the lack of videos with puzzles and this is the reply by one of the devs.

No not right now, we don't want to show too many puzzles as it would give away the solutions to those puzzles and ruin the experience. There will be a demo a week or maybe 2 after the Steam release though.

DC Gamer Club / The Ball - Portal-like game with a err.. ball
« Last post by lanux128 on October 20, 2010, 08:50 AM »
The Ball is a first person puzzle game where you use a err.. ball to solve puzzles and vanquish undead mummies.

You're an archaeologist working on the slopes of a dormant volcano in 1940s Mexico. Somehow you get stuck in a cavern. It doesn’t take long before you realize this is more than just a cave. You reveal ancient ruins that have been hidden from outsiders for centuries and discover a mysterious artifact, a gold and metal shelled Ball. As you progress towards solving the mystery of this amazing place you must unlock the secrets of the Ball and learn to control this ancient artifact. Venturing deeper into the volcano, you reveal some of mankind’s greatest secrets and you will start to encounter not just puzzles and traps, but also various strange creatures – the guardians of this mystery. These creatures have to be overcome, using only the Ball to defend you.

i've been trying to run minicap (version 1.21.01) with the following command-line:

minicap.exe -save C:\Temp\Screenshots\$nicename$_$uniquenum$.png -captureactivewin -exit

but the initial screenshot has no number in the filename, it ends with '_' but the next capture is working fine with '_002' as part of the filename. how can i make the sequence start from '001'?

General Software Discussion / Re: How to quickly autonumber text lists?
« Last post by lanux128 on October 13, 2010, 08:57 PM »
PSPad has this support as well..

PSPad_14_10_2010_001.png

Numbering
This option allows you to insert numbering at the start of every line in the file or every selected line.

The values marked 3 in the picture above show you how your numbering will look when applied.

The value entered in the box marked 4 in the picture is used as the starting value.

The value entered in the box marked 5 in the picture determines how many characters will be used for the numbering. The numbers are left-padded with zeros.

The character(s) entered in the boxed marked 6 above are used to separate the numbering characters from the text on the line.

one of the better Firefox addons developer out there, Chris Finke recently tried a "freemium" experiment with URL Fixer to see if the users of that popular addon can be enticed to part with some dosh for extra features.

his conclusions from this experiment make an interesting reading..

Can you play Steam games in a multi-player LAN environment without having to be connected to the internet?

eg.  If I take my PC to our LAN night and the others were running a L4D2 multi-player game, would I be able to join if I'm using a Steam based version of L4D2 and had no internet access for validation.

Or are Steam games purely single player if there is no internet connection?

i've never tried this due but according to official support, this can be done, you have to validate your games once (by being online). then you can set to 'offline mode' and exit. so the next time you start the client you can play single-player or LAN.
