hm, yeah, the security is a problem

1st impression of it, after I loaded it, not streamlined.
Didn't see any speed increase or decrease, it's just a browser.
A bit clumsy to work with add ons and other functions.
It wanted to keep going back to the trident engine.
The firefox addons worked, but slower.
It's not as pretty as the website :)

Backup your computer before installing it.

Glary has a decent startup manager and junk file cleaner.
It will do a backup for any function to undo changes.
Don't let it autostart, it will want to.

From mouser's post on shellcity, they have Lunascape listed.
Claims to be able to use most Firefox plugins.

I think I'll give it a run.

Nice Curt, Ill check that out!

Here's a link from Infranview's site that may help as well.

Yeah, sorry I missed that you said InfranView.

In PhotoFiltre Studio put the plugin in the plugin folder,
program files-photofiltre-plugins.
Then in the program go to Tools - Preferences.
There is a drop down bar to choose plugins and 8bf.
Maybe you can make it work that way.
I haven't tried it, this is guessing for sure.

General Software Discussion / Re: Must-have Windows Programs
« Last post by cmpm on December 29, 2009, 08:11 AM »
It helps me to have folders for different types of programs.
Audio/Video/Burn-Image-Office-Maintain and then one called 'Stuff, which has mostly programs that already auto start.

The visible icons are Owner, on w7 it houses docs, pics, downloads and more. Computer, Recycle and Control Panel.

Extra icons in the quick launch are Note, Atlantis Nova, Firefox, IE and Flip3d.

Seems to work for me. Every program is on the desktop.
I guess I use folders like fences...sort of.

Photofiltre, Photofiltre Studio or Infranview might work.
Finding the filter is the challenge.
And if it will batch process.

But I think both can use photoshop filters.
Or Harry's filters might work as well.

Some sites with the 8bf filters will have spyware or worse.
Be sure to have your defense up.

Here's a rootkit program that really works well.
The only one out of many that fixed the problem I had.
As usual, be sure you don't remove something you shouldn't.
If you have a good idea of what you are looking for, this will find it.

http://www.sophos.co...os-anti-rootkit.html

(among a few other good tools)
Sophos is business class software.

Not an online tool, but worth mention.
Works on Windows 7 quite nicely.

I usually just check out the 5 star addons,
but some 4 stars are worth looking at.

Watch for scumware.

I liked the rollup feature of fileboxextender.
Which is here in another program,
but that's all it does.
Works with W7. Free.

For folders and shortcuts I don't need much more then I already have to work with.

What is it about google toolbar that you use super?

Personally I liked the auto complete,
but the firefox addons for similar functions don't work as well or really suck.

So anyway what functions do you want that google toolbar has?

And I thought ask.com could be removed with revo.

If it's one graphics card with two connections, try switching the cables.

If it's two cards, then I'm not sure if you want to switch, depending on the card's abilities.

The last 3 posts at Life Rocks I could really use!
And an immediate download link at the end of the article.
Which is nice to not have to search for the link.
So I downloaded and using the last 3 as well as many they post.

Excellent site to browse and get links quick imo.

General Software Discussion / Re: Any XP users switching to Windows 7 yet?
« Last post by cmpm on December 13, 2009, 08:50 AM »
I loaded W7 onto 2 machines (64 &32).  Haven't used either much yet, but I figure problems with security, obsolete apps, etc. will sort themselves out eventually.  Have to go with the flow if you want to stay with Microsoft OSs.  I still have XP Pro on my workhorse machine and Vista Home on one laptop (other two are XP Pro).  Make a gradual transition as I have the time to familiarize myself with 7.  I have a quad core box that I want to install W7, Ubuntu, and Snow Leopard on, but I can't get a copy of VMWare or a reliable boot loader, so that's on hold for now.  Anyone have any ideas that would help me get that project going would be greatly  appreciated.

Dan

Gizmo Drive works on w7.
Free, up to 10 virtual drives.
Maybe more depending on setting it up.
More features too.

I use it, I'm sure anyone can.
Updated yesterday.

in XP I always was running in admin mode
still got a prompt to allow an install
but not of drivers within the install like W7

now with UAC turned off
I still get the driver prompt/warning
which is good

I never had a problem with programs trying to install without me clicking install. XP or W7.

I wonder if UAC would catch opencandy.
That would be a good test I think.
But I won't try it.

says it's free and works on w7
i think it has limits though....

I know MPC is not what you want to hear, Mpc-Home Cinema is fast and a codec pack with it from here.

http://www.cccp-project.net/

Updated 9-9-09

Having switched to W7, I've had to find a better player.
Vlc and mpc did not work well. Although, now with this codec pack WMP plays flash and more, it's still slower then MPC-Home Cinema.

I even tried Real Player, and it works fine but not as fast.

"Secure Security Points Aware"

Or something that you can check the points it will do or not do, listed here in this thread. Like checking a box that 'Yes' or 'No' is covered.
1071
Ok, sounds good to me.
All these points are good ones if any 1 can achieve them all, I would be surprised.
I think it would have to a combination of more then one product.
1072
So can we offer products up on this thread, and see/dissect if any of these expectations are met by any AV/security software?

I put a shortcut to the control panel on the desktop. "System" in control panel is where youwill find 'device manager'., among other places I suppose.

And yes I turned off UAC. It won't stop malware and the like imo, since that crap is usually hidden in other programs. Get Malwarebytes for $25 it works full time. And a good antivirus and maybe a firewall.

I haven't really 'switched' to w7 yet, but I partitioned half my drive and loaded w7 pro.

I never did vista, so I can only compare it to xp. Did a clean install to the D partition and w7 changed it to C. Which surprisingly did not affect the operation of xp on the other partition, which is now D for xp.

W7 is much faster then XP. All programs I installed works fine. And I can access the xp drive and anything on it, though I haven't tried to run anything from xp via w7. I did install a few things from xp's partition.

UAC is an annoyance, that is certain. Other then that, so far it's an enjoyable experience. Especially since I bought w7 pro at a school discount. $60 total including shipping.

I had to activate games because of the school type release it is, not sure if that's true for all w7' pro's, since it is the business release. Just a tad under Ultimate, of which it's extras would not be needed by me.....I think.
