Do you get the same effect from other programs if you try to print?
Can you delete the items from the queue?
Does the printer queue say why they won't print?

Yes, RIGHT-CLICK in that window and choose to create a new hotkey.  Use whatever keyboard shortcut you want.

Choose the following options:

Welcome to the site rcb!

Try using the File menu and Print item from there; once you set the printer from there, the print button should work after that.

And when you do, could you check what printer is shown in the dialog when you use the File -> Print menu, and let us know -- it should be the default printer which should be the one you are trying to print on -- but if print is not working i'm guessing the problem is that it's set to something else.

If that still fails to work, two things to check:
1. see if you can print from another application
2. see if there is a printer icon showing in your system tray, if so double click it to see what might be wrong with your printer "queue"

let us know if that works.

since not many people are using Windows 8 yet, it's possible that something else is going wrong with printing in widows 8.. but let's cross that bridge after we burn down the others.

That should be easy enough to do in autohotkey, and one of the autohotkey people will surely report how to do it.

I'll just mention that if you use my Find and Run Robot, you can configure a hotkey that tells FARR to copy the text under the clipboard and then launch farr with that text in the search window.  From there you could hit enter to open or launch the file (if the text under the clipboard was a file) or hit enter to launch a url, or let FARR do a search for whatever text is under clipboard.  In this way FARR might be a more general solution to what you are interested in.

Note, by default FARR as an example hotkey that almost does this -- just select some text under cursor and hit Ctrl+Break.  The difference is that this default hotkey example adds the word "search " prior to launching with the text under cursor, and so is useful for performing web searches for the text.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Slow in launching
« Last post by mouser on January 04, 2013, 09:09 AM »
Hi Mr. Seeker -- something definitely sounds wrong -- it should come up right away.

A couple of questions:

If you use hotkey to bring it up, and then hit the hotkey to make it go away, and then bring it up again, does it come up instantly the *second* time?

Can you try going to the options and clicking on the "Launch History" tab, and then right-clicking in the history and say "Delete all entries in list", and see if that fixes your speed issue.  Sometimes if you have a link to a networked file in that list, it can slow down FARR's first display.

Also, can I confirm you have the latest version of FARR?

And lastly, if you are running Microsoft Security Essentials tool, you should exclude FARR (see this thread).

Far Cry 3 has a *lot* of stealth, lots of sniper action, is fantastically addictive, and is huge.

It's also another leap forward towards games that make you feel like you are in a living, breathing, autonomous world.  Highly recommended except if you value your time.

A request:

If you aren't one of the coders who participated in the NANY event this year, and can afford a few bucks to donate to the site -- we can always use some help paying for the mugs that we send out to all of the NANY participants.  Other than the hosting costs it's our largest expense each year.

Even better would be to donate and then use our DonationCredits system to donate to the individual authors who participated in the NANY event (by clicking the gold coin under their name when you visit their thread), to show your appreciation.  Or you can just send your DonationCredits to the site fund account and we will use that for mugs and then distribute the rest to nany participants.

Thank you everyone who helped with NANY this year (special thanks to Hally for the great 2013 mug image this year)!

N.A.N.Y. 2013 / --> DonationCoder.com NANY 2013 Roundup Summary
« Last post by mouser on January 02, 2013, 10:59 AM »
For the past 7 years at DonationCoder.com we have held an annual "New Apps for the New Year (N.A.N.Y.)" event where we ask the coders who hang out on the site to create some new piece of free software and share it with the world. What follows is a roundup of the entries from this year.

The NANY event is not a competition -- anyone can participate and everyone who does gets a unique mug commemorating the event.

Most of the programs this year were done for fun by the coders -- some are polished and ready for public use, while others are a little rough around the edges and were mainly done as a proof of concept.  All programs are freely available for download.

« Last post by mouser on January 01, 2013, 04:26 PM »
The way I attack is, i go through each clue.

If it says X<Y then I know that X cannot be in any of the 3 rightmost grids, and Y cannot be in any of the 3 leftmost grids.
Similarly, whenever A^B I know that B cannot be in any of the 3 top grids, and A cannot be in any of the 3 bottom grids.

Then I iteratively look for grids with small number of live cells, and look for numbers that cannot be part of a solution.  For example if a row sum adds to 6 then I know i can eliminate any 7s and 8s, etc.

Just solved my second puzzle.  I like this game. Like most of timns's games, it takes me a couple tries to figure out how to play it, but they are exceedingly clever.

Timns, I'm assuming that you aren't inventing this actually game idea (i mean the nature of the clues, the size, the summing, the algorithm).. Where is it from?

So to sum up my requests:

1. fix click-not-registering-sometimes bug. audio feedback on click.
2. always let user remove any cell, don't prevent illegal removals. (if you want to be nice, show what clues or sums are violated at any given time).
3. give a nice sound or graphic when a puzzle is solved properly.
4. import+export of clue games for sharing.
5. when you click NEW it should reset the clock.

Very nice work timns.

Since this is java, have you considered porting your puzzles to Android?

Tim is so good at making these games!!

I finally beat one:

My solution:

It would be nice if we could copy a code+paste codes to the clipboard to let us try puzzles that each other has solved, if you get my meaning.

First, this is quite cool.

But sometimes (often) i click on a cell and it doesn't dissapear until i click it a couple more times.. and then sometimes some cells will simply never clear for me.  I assume thats because i'm trying to remove a cell that would make the solution impossible, but sometimes its happening and i cant see how its coming to that conclusion, and i wonder if it really should be showing me when i try to remove something that invalidates the puzzle, without any punishment.  the combo of these two things is quite confusing.

Some audio feedback might help to at least tell me the difference between a bug of it not registering a click vs it refusing to clear a cell because of some reason...
