General Software Discussion / Re: Any SIMPLE dvd audio ripping software out there?
« Last post by lanux128 on November 22, 2010, 01:41 AM »
i normally use DVD Decrypter to extract the audio part (AC3) and use a multi-purpose converter to convert the audio to mp3. cmpm's suggestions follows something along this line but it's a 2-step process..  :)

you can try this application here, DVD Audio Ripper, which claims to be able to convert DVD audio into MP3s.

DVD Audio Ripper is a DVD audio extractor and DVD to MP3 converter to rip audio from DVD, rip DVD sound to MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, AC3, OGG, RA and SUN AU formats. Using DVD Audio Ripper, you can extract DVD audio, rip DVD movie soundtrack and subtitle to MP3 file and rip DVD sound to WAV with complete sound effects.

First of all, why would firefox have a file like that with the word "Chrome" in it??  How is that not a problem knowing that their competitor is the Chrome browser from Google??  Makes no sense to me.  Whatever.

in computing terms, the word 'chrome' means any visible graphical interface features of an application. the term precedes the browser made by Google, which itself is based on the open-source project called, "Chromium". one might wonder didn't the thought occurred to any of the engineers at Google?

thanks for the update news, sajman99..

like you, i'm not sure what was that all about but MilesAhead highlights an important point, that is not to search google unfiltered, which by now i guess everyone would have switched to scroogle.

on an unrelated note, i think that it's uppity on Google's part not to allow the users' to choose the installation path.

@ecaradec: i stumbled across this page and noticed that it's a newer version (1.6.0.3) than the one on the website (1.5.0.4). just wondering if it is just a Chrome-specific version..

Is there a key shortcut (or key sequence) to open options?  If not, that would be a nice addition.  Thanks.

you can type gooptions to open Options dialog.

you can also type helpfarr for some basic commands.

This makes the upcoming COD: Black Ops only AU$45 for me.......time to get the CC out.....

nice find but does that work for COD:BO? the advert says "not available for pre-orders", maybe they made a big boo-boo. :)

yes there is a plethora of converters out there and most of are them just a GUI frontend to CLI tools like ffmpeg. while it's tempting to use a all-in-one program, it's best identify what type of conversions do you do most of the time and get the best tool for that.

myself i use separate converters depending on the needs. one for audio, another for flash videos, yet another for DVD ripping but that's just me. :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Latest FARR Release v2.107.04 beta - Sep 23, 2012
« Last post by lanux128 on November 04, 2010, 09:53 PM »
i think we went over this some time back and generally it was agreed that one of Farr's appeal is an array of features which users can tweak to their own liking. this was preferable than the program second-guessing users' every action and end up being more of a hindrance.

i suggest new users taking the time to go through mouser's handy screencast videos to make the most of Farr's robustness and flexibility.

i've never used Format Factory before, though i have downloaded it. the thing with these freeware apps is that they have to take on 3rd party tools to stay afloat..

in any case, keep an eye on DC's Found Deals section, there might be a post on a payware convertor being given away or something like that. that'd be better for you in the long run.
1045
looks like it's time for an alternative converter program.. SUPER converter FTW! :P

I got this just now also. I got the USB safely remove on the prior giveaway.  Sometimes though I have to wonder if I'm getting a placebo effect(tm).
yes, i've been hearing a lot about Zentimo here in DC so this giveaway is a good opportunity to see what it's all about.
