I agree with nosh. Just ignore them.

This may be the program you were thinking of....

no, looks like a convenient way to move "special" folders, but doesnt seem to allow rename judging by what said there

good find, tomos! i've always been wondering about that but it didn't affect me much to do anything about it.. :)

well it's nice to know that others dont have to get as %$&*# upset when reading scrolling my mail as I tend to when having to scroll theirs :)

hmmm, I've changed name of my documents but with something ... :-\
thought it might have been Tweak UI but just had a look there and cant see anything -
it's a fairly recent install so just thinking now it might have been Autopatcher but that's no help to you probably

I dont think you can simply rename them ... or dont think it works at any rate :)

this might do it?

There I was completely wasting, out of work and down
All inside its so frustrating as I drift from town to town
Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die
So I might as well begin to put some action in my life

Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law

So much for the golden future, I cant even start
Ive had every promise broken, theres anger in my heart
You dont know what its like, you dont have a clue
If you did youd find yourselves doing the same thing too

Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law

You dont know what its like

Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: a Profile-able Workdesk Desktop
« Last post by tomos on December 16, 2007, 09:08 AM »
As I see this request, it's more of an occasional switching between modes of working.  So when you switch you want different icons, wallpaper, etc.  It's not about running multiple programs on dif desktops, just about setting up different desktop environments suited for different modes of working.

go go go :D

seriously though,
I think it's a great idea for those of us who dont want to go to the virtual desktops extreme (okay it's not that extreme but if you dont want/need all that capability..)

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by tomos on December 14, 2007, 09:41 AM »
Tomos:   There is a registry option in some of the file managers that allow substitution of , for example, Xplorer2 as the default file manager.  I believe in that case (haven't tried it yet) Win Explorer never runs.

I could well be wrong :) but :) I believe all the file managers that "replace" explorer dont actually completely replace it
e.g. Dopus: you can "replace" explorer with it but explorer still runs in the background doing various other (mysterious) things that explorer does

I never used them but is it the case that "shell" replacements actually replace explorer? which are something else alltogether
I think so, hopefully someone else might chime in there.

@ enginer:
sounds like your problem is with win explorer -
I mean getting another file manager isnt going to solve that problem cause explorer still runs - as to what will maybe someone else could help...

CodeTrucker - I tested this only in so far as I opened up both OneNote and SQLNotes and typed in single letters (actually I hit return twice and typed in the letter a) and then shut down the programme without saving anything. When I fired them back up the changes I had made were still there.

I'll take one for the team though (Gulp!) and try hitting the juice button in the middle of typing in both  :o
DONT DO IT!!!
-
use xyplorer: open to where the file is being saved,
doodle a bit  :)
check has file been updated/saved in XY -
you have to hit F5 to refresh but default shows seconds in saved time so should be easy to check

EDIT: just to be clear:- check has file/database been updated before closing programme down

Have changed the above setting so will try it out...

seems to work as would be expected now
i.e. my mails arrive (in Thunderbird) as they left!

(I didnt try the rewrap incoming mails)

General Software Discussion / "Wrapping" mail in Thunderbird
« Last post by tomos on December 13, 2007, 09:17 AM »
[EDIT] was going to post this as a query but found the answer so thought I'd post the whole lot [/EDIT]

I use Thunderbird for my mail
I've noticed I often get mails from poeple that havent been "wrapped"
mostly they go to the size of the window but if I recall correctly they sometimes need to be scrolled - over/back to read
Personally, I find nothing harder to read than a solid block of text the size of the screen...and scrolling lines the length of a paragraph >:(

So,
I started wondering how my mails look
I send text mails (setting selected in accounts/composition)
with wordwrap set to 75 (set in options)

If my mail is opened online the wordwrap works
but
if it's downloaded to Thunderbird at any rate the wrap is lost

If, before I send the mail I select the text and go to edit/rewrap
then when it's downloaded to Tbird the wrapping is kept.

Maybe I should be sending this to Mozilla

EDIT turns out it is a bug -
solution is:
[in Options]
On the page Advanced – General, press the Config Editor... button. Set the Filter to: flowed  Set the following preference to the opposite of its default (for example, by double-clicking it), so that the setting is:

    mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed    user set    boolean    false

you can also set incoming mails to be wrapped
but
they say:
Notes:

    * Some messages that other people send to you might look strange with these settings.
    * Other people might find that messages you send to them look strange.
Note # 2 there is a little disturbing -
like what does that mean :tellme: (he's a wierdo - his mails are wrapped :D)

I have noticed if I select text of an incoming mail & rewrap that it turns into a block of text & loses any formatting
Have changed the above setting [for out going mail] so will try it out...

Forgot the Mozilla link:

is there a program that will sit in the tray and will record everything I type? I want this because often I write a big text

for this part of what you were looking for see new thread on evernote
https://www.donation...?topic=11315.new#new
apparently it saves after every keystroke :)

it does seem to save each time I make a change

dont know if it's wasteful - it's quick, responsive, uses cpu & memory but nothing out of order here at any rate

this prob not of help, but just in case:-

not sure when that FF update was but am using 2.0.0.11
I installed the grab & drag extension about a week ago & disabled it after a few days cause FF was regularly seizing up
everything seemed okay for a few days then today everything seized up (ff was minimised to tray at the time so prob not culprit), even process explorer wouldnt work so had to shut down after ctrl+alt+del (worked) -
I put it down to installing winupdates this morning & refusing to reboot all day long after.. (windows gets it's revenge :'()

;D sometimes I really love this place  :-*

Really? I love this place ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME  :-* :P ;D  :D :-[

but it does get extra good when you just have to laugh out loud :-* ...
...and again when I reread..  ;D

I've tried this before just for kicks. If my recycle bin was a toilet, it would have been spinning around leaving skid marks all over the place before finally going down.

Sounds to me like it left a lot of crap around when trying to uninstall it.
It has that realistic flushing sound too. :D

BTW @Planka, thanks for the clarification
