Coding Snacks / Re: Changing a folder's name text colour

The trouble is not getting the settings into the registry, the trouble is that there are no (known) registry settings that can be tweaked to change the colors of the filenames displayed, based on some selection criteria.

Some alternatives for Windows Explorer can do that for you. The shareware Xplorer2 can do it using the Customize/Color coding menu, and it supports all kinds of filters to select the files to be shown in a specific color.

Nice News. I am going.
Best Regards

There is a command in autohotkey/autoit to control ?

RegRead: http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/RegRead.htm
RegWrite: http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/RegWrite.htm

Thank Skwire. But I would like what exact command must introduce in the registry to change the color and background text of a folder or file......

I think the desktop font color is under control of Windows.  For light desktop background it will show as black text.  Navy blue will probably cause it to use a white font.

There's several free icon color changers around. I found a few on Softpedia. I don't use desktop icons anymore.  If I do a Bullzip print to pdf it may stay on the desktop for 1/2 hour.  That's it.

Under certain circunstancias the name text become blue or green. I don't remember why. Compressed files or so.
Under windows is easy to control the colour font or other parameters of the title window, active window,......

But this is different.

The only program I have detected is xentient labels, but is not freeware.

The trouble with these gadgets that mess with the shell, seems like every one I've tried, some flaky behavior is evident within 2 hours of trying them out.  Perhaps this one works, but every one I've tried that sticks stuff on Explorer that ain't supposed to be there, makes Explorer do stuff to become less useful, like crashing or appearing on the desktop as a caption with nothing underneath it, or something equally non-satisfying.

I gave up on trying this category of stuff.

Xentient Labels exist, but is shareware.
Additionally what have you proof ?
you don't tell

Customize Folder download link don't go well.
Control also the info tip. This concept is for the text you see when simply select a folder. You can control too by the desktop.ini.

Other app. similar to iconoid : D-Color XP 1.2

Customize Folder Shell Extension acts over the desktop.ini file inside the folder to personalize, but is not change the text name folder or file. Acts inside a folder of your election.
This can be done with this ini file and a language by microsoft or something like that.
But I haven't discover a manual method to change the text name and background text name of a folder or the same for a file.

Xentient Labels Curt, but it's not a freeware.

I have revised iconoid and is valid under windows xp pro. But only for the desktop and not individual files.

FolderMarker Pro I think don't change the text name.

I'll try folder shell extension and comment.

Do you know a soft to scan a folder and subfolders and output all in shorcut's mode to a destination folder organized cronologically.
That's :
source folder : By example Y:\datos
to destination folder : by example Y:\Crono
with the subfolders 2011 to make reference to year
containing the subfolder 06.2011 to make reference to month
and finally containing the subfolder 12.06.2011 to make reference to the date.
Able to control years, months, and days of the creation file.
Able to exclude from the source folder some extensions of file.

I would like :

Source folder : a folder of my election containing files and subfolders.
Each file has a creation date. We can exclude system files and other extensions not proper to control.
The basic idea would be : reorganize documents, audios, videos, images, and usual files by crono.

Destination folder : The coding snack give the possibility to generate or use a previosly created.
The destination folder is a crono folder :
First level of subfolders control the year : 2010 , 2011, 2012 .
Second level of subfolders control the month : 01.2010, 02.2010, 03.2010, 04.2010 , etc
Third  level of subfolders control the day : 12.01.2010 , 13.01.2010, 14.01.2010 , etc.  (for me is usually enough control the month)
This may be configurable....

Mechanic to get : when the scan found a file in the source folder analyze the creation date and copy a shortcut to the year, month , and day specified in the creation date of that file.

In other words. Is an utility organization copy creating in the destination folder the shorcuts of the original files.

Best Regards
