Stopping now, blame 4WD for this outburst :)

He says "nearly", unfortunately. I wish we had @mentions. Tsaint, did you ever get this fully working? Anyone else? I continue to be very intrigued and occasionally very impressed with the results!

No, he gave up and went camping instead! My partner got a job 1500 km away and it's a nice "commute" to see her, with lots of stops along the way

Hi Jesse,
as I lurch towards my dotage I'm getting less and less social. Spend a lot of time camping in peaceful surrounds. But I still regularly lurk here :)
Thanks

This , on a similar tack, might be worth a look
I had to install Ubuntu and a few other bits and pieces and I nearly (!) got it to work. Someone more tech-savvy than me probably could with probably good results.

Yes, I think so, along with lots of other possibilities....  see IFTTT (IfThisThenThat)

this is an interesting idea.. is there an android app that will monitor an email address and perform actions based on received emails?  if so you could set up something where you EMAILED a designated mail account of yours, and your phone would receive the email that would instruct it to send an sms with the specified contents..

Bit late I s'pose, but Xnview (freeware) has a compare tool, allowing up to 4 selected images to be displayed at once. Images can then be removed from the display one at a time to narrow down your choice, with the remaining images expanding where possible to occupy the freed up space.
Alternatively, you could select as many images as you wanted from the thumbnail view and use the "create strip of images" tool and use the resulting to compare images.

Browsing the City of Oakland's website, as one often does in moments of boredom, I came across this chappie.
Most peculiar assortment of crimes.... could anyone from California shed some light on the last listed crime please?

Thanks Nzyme, useful to me. Do you have a preference or recommendation ... most of the reviews I've googled are self serving.

General Software Discussion / Re: software to edit pdfs
« on: November 15, 2013, 05:38 PM »
techidave, I use PDFannotator on my win 8 tablet (with proper stylus) and use it extensively at school.
 Typical workflow for me...
set maths test using word
print to pdf using primo (free)
use pdfannotator and stylus to handwrite solutions on the pdf using the tablet/stylus - on my surface pro, writing maths is a very pleasant experience. (this is the connection to your "software to edit pdf" request)
post solutions online

Cuts down heaps on paper, physical storage, keeping track of past tests.
The price - student licence $29 .... 20 licences $458. Don't know if that is cheap or not for you.
tony

EDIT: a url would be nice I s'pose: http://www.ograhl.co...Product=pdfannotator

How about Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations.
Or Bill Evans - he was one of the best.

Perhaps there's an eye tracking peripheral like the fighter pilots use to lock rockets on target?  It should be fast once you learn to control your blinking.  :)
Several years ago, there was some freeware floating around for using your cam to track where you were looking and hence move the cursor. It worked (no comment about the quality of the experience).I can't remember whether it provided for LMB /RMB clicks or not. Probably best used just to sate one's curiosity.
Edit: there's a version at http://www.cameramouse.org/

I guess you missed this part: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_SETI
err .... that was the link I supplied  :o
Maybe you missed the difference between "SETI" and "ACTIVE_SETI"?

46
It has always bothered me that we have massive radio telescopes (SETI), that for years has sent out messages

"The science known as SETI deals with searching for messages from aliens. METI (aka "active-SETI) science deals with the creation of messages to aliens. Thus, SETI and METI proponents have quite different perspectives."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_SETI

It has always bothered me that we have massive radio telescopes (SETI), that for years has sent out messages into the cosmos
I was under the impression that radio telescopes received rather than emitted and that the SETI  program searched for signals

Further OT...
Not happy,Edvard!!!! Just followed your link and my initial happiness turned to dismay when I saw that a "care less"defender wroe " It's too wide OF a word." (emphasis mine).
English was a fairly good language - maybe not the best, but up there, until the Americans got their hands on it.
I'm going to take an aspirin and have a good lie down.

"Peaches",in some places, can also mean "OK" as in :
"Honey, sorry,we're out of peaches, will pears be OK?"
"That'll be peaches,dear".

Hope that clears up any confusion.

Now,how about the oft seen (at least, from USA sites) "I could care less" ... if someone could explain the logic in that one I'd be amazed.
