General Software Discussion / Re: DVD playback software

IphigeniePickup, how about a copy of PowerDvd 6 (OEM) for $5.99  (free shipping)

It probably excludes some of the enhanced audio modes, but this should be absolutely fine for a laptop.

Living Room / Re: Good Video Editing Software? Is there any?
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:21 PM »
I use Movie Edit Pro 11 http://site.magix.net/english-uk/home/.
It's pretty good value and is often available with a hefty rebate.

DVD-lab has always interested me though.

This is the full commercial single-user version of eXpert PDF 3
I've stopped using Jaws PDF Creator (V3.4) in favour of this.

Living Room / Re: password-protect external HD (USB)?
« on: February 05, 2007, 08:18 PM »
I've used TrueCrypt and it's predecessor e4m ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E4M and http://www.woundedmo...g/win32/e4m202a.html ) since the early days. It has not let me down once.
Personally, I prefer creating container files in the size of whatever my backup media is and then mounting them as needed. That has the added advantage of simpler backup e.g 650 MB per CD or 4.x GB per DVD etc...
Partitions used to be more difficult to manage, however now there is a plethora of partition managent software these days, so that's no longer an issue.

Living Room / Re: Learn How to create No-CD Cracks.
« on: December 21, 2006, 09:52 PM »
Mostly true for the latest games when the protection mechanism changes - at which point the Virtual CD developers release updates when they provide support for that game. Yeah, it's cat and mouse sometimes, but there are useful benefits.
Of course, some games do not ever get supported.

Go read the supported game lists at the Game Jackal forums or Farstone's VirtualDrive support.

Game Jackal currently has 40% off as well

If you really want to run with no CD, then I suggest you spend a few dollars on a Virtual CD product.
Read about it...

Having said that, Farstone are having a 50% discount on all their products until 31st Dec

Sorry folks, wish I'd been more informative, but it's so long since I used ClickBook.

Carol, their web page says this
"ClickBook, helps you scale and rotate digital photos, e-mails, documents, favorite on-line content, or other critical information into 170+ mobile and convenient layouts.  You can even design your own custom layouts and save up to 75% in paper costs!"

Btw, the $29 sale is only on this page
http://www.bluesquirrel.com/products/clickbook/
and not on this page
http://www.clickbook.com/clickbook_win.php

If you're trialing Fineprint, have a look at Blue Squirrel's ClickBook before you commit.
It may have a similar enough feature set it's also $49.95
I last used Clickbook in 1998

Personally, I favor the Creative lineup. Their sound quality is excellent.
I have a couple of Muvo models, including the 4GB version.

The ZEN V Plus seems almost to be what you're after (demo shows color screen, but I'm not sure about FM record).
