Dear DC Forum Members,

I am an intermediate computer user. Currently I have the following e-mail setup at the office:

current_setup.gif

I use Thunderbird as my e-mail client. Today I see that Thunderbird cannot handle my large e-mail database (8 GB). To solve the problem a friend suggests that I setup a local IMAP server and use Thunderbird as an IMAP client. The scenario is as follows:

local_imap.gif

For the incoming mail:
  • The local IMAP server pulls e-mails via POP3 server
  • I access the e-mail on the local IMAP server using Thunderbird as IMAP client

For outgoing mail:
  • I compose e-mail on Thunderbird
  • I sent the mail through SMTP server via local IMAP server

My question are:
1. Is that IMAP setup possible on Windows XP Pro?
2. What IMAP server can be easily set up on Windows XP Pro that can handle such scenario?

Well, that's my questions. Thanks in advance!  :)

Site/Forum Features / Re: Should we add tags to forum?
« on: June 27, 2010, 10:04 PM »
I would love to use tag to bookmark specific / interesting post (not thread, since we have Thread Mark function to bookmark thread) but according to screenshot, only poster can set tag for his/her post.

3. Then, I use a special formula to calculate the urgency of tasks (processed in IQ) depending on their :

  • duedates
  • Planned Start and End date
  • % Done
  • time needed to complete them
  • numeric priority (1-9)

Of course the formula takes into account whether the task-project is late or not, etc.

Would you mind showing me the formula? Can it be implemented in spreadsheet (Excel or Calc)? TIA.

That said, if you're an MS Office 2007 user, will you be upgrading to the 2010 (twenty-ten!) version? And if so, which features are compelling enough to do so?

I am currently using MSO 2007 at the office. The possibility of upgrading is so thin. Most of my co worker use OpenOffice.org.

I use PDF-Xchange Viewer and when I inspect the preference (Edit|Preferences|File Associations), Display PDF in Browser is unchecked by default.

It's interesting to note that whilst there are numerous "Dock" programs available, only two appear to have been around for a while and are under active development: "Object Dock" and "Circle Dock". So spread the word people - "Circle Dock IS the premier dock for Windows and it's free and open-source!"

I have voted it as the best application dock:)

General Software Discussion / Re: The Best Of: text editors
« on: April 27, 2009, 11:42 PM »
There was a cool fast free Dos editor called BlackBeard. The thing that was unique about it at the time was it did column cut & paste.

I am searching for BlackBeard and found this interesting page:

TextEditors Wiki

I frequently use EditorĀ² to replace MS Windows' Notepad.

General Software Discussion / Re: On-Line Dictionaries

I voted for Google "define". The fact is I use Google "define" more often than Dictionary.com. Why? I think Google is faster.
