I don't quite understand what the modification means.

I'm working on a review and would like to include a flash demo say called abc.swf

I'm a little stumped as to how to include it in the review.

I tried to use

But I cannot figure out how to reference the abc.swf

My apologies, I'm a little dumb here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Another potentially useful giveaway - for those who do not want to use Freeware VNC type software http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VNC

I wonder if anyone can throw some light on the differences

Giveaway of the Day » Remote Desktop Control
"Remote Desktop Control displays the screen of another computer (via Internet or network) on your own screen. The program allows you to use your mouse and keyboard to control the other computer remotely. It means that you can work on a remote computer, as if you were sitting in front of it."

Just wondering,

If one uses Directory Opus, would there really be a need to use another Dual Pane File Manager. I find that Directory Opus can literally do everything that one would ever want to do with a File Manager.

The one thing that keeps me with Directory Opus is that it is really customizable. So I customize it to have same or very similar shortcuts with Norton Commander which was what I had grown accustomed to over the years.

Having done that, I was able to migrate almost painlessly over. Yes, there are still a few shortcuts (or behavior) available in Norton Commander that one cannot duplicate in Directory Opus. But by and large, this is more than compensated by Directory Opus ability to send commands to other programs that accept commandline commands and also it's myriad other features (for which I have yet to fully appreciate and use).

Any based on the little I know of the customizability of Directory Opus, you probably can duplicate the command shortcuts of almost any other File Manager you can think of.

Moreover, I find their forums to be very responsive and or informative. You can almost get a solution within a few hours of posting a questions there.

So is there any reason for a Directory Opus user (fan) to try something like XYplorer then !

Maybe there's something that I'm ignorant about here.

Perhaps it may be a good idea to move this thread from here to

Found Deals and Discounts
https://www.donation...index.php?board=39.0

This will make it easier for visitors to find all the deals and discount under the same heading.

281
Despite my reservations of the install by today deal, this is a must download for those who would like to try their hand at converting powerpoint to flash.

It's a good opportunity. At least it's free for today instead of US$149.

Hopefully there will be a software utility available to move your license to a new computer easily in future.

"log monitor" is frighteningly close to what i wanted

I'm glad to hear you have figured it out. But what is even more important is that you have shared your solution. Which leads me to think that perhaps there could be "child" forums on Donationcoder dedicated to niche programs like Log Monitor which I believe is in a class of its own.

Just occurred to me that someday the archive of the Log Monitor forum may just disappear off the website when you most need it.

It may be an idea to have a copy off line. I think programs like http://www.httrack.com/ or Teleport http://tenmax.com/teleport/pro/home.htm

Anyone like to suggest a better tool to do this.

283
I have read on some reviews that this new version is pretty accurate (impressive perhaps) out of the box in terms of accuracy.

I wonder if anyone here have any experience with it ?

But if you are looking for a deal, here's one for 50%.

i know this is a horrible forum to ask this question but at least you guys have some experience with this prog.

I guess there's nothing wrong with asking this question here.

As for me, the last time I tried Log Monitor, it was like maybe 3 or 4 years ago and I did not delve too deeply into the scripting portion so I cannot help you with the syntax of commands to do what you want.

But from what I can see and experienced, it is a very capable and flexible program, but it does require perseverance to learn with trial and error.

Perhaps one of the more recent users here can help you.

I suggest you browse through the archived Forum (see links below) for some tips. Log Monitor also has a reasonably good help file. I hope this helps.

General Review Discussion / Re: Review Templates
« on: December 06, 2006, 08:17 AM »
Cool again,

What can I say Mouser, but that you think of everything !

I was conceptualising one or more mini-reviews but the thought of having to do it all at one go was putting me off, or should I say making me procrastinate.

Now I have no more excuse. But wait,  :-[ I can still blame it on Christmas, and then there's the New Year, Easter etc and of course all the interesting posts by Donationcoder members.

Cool.

Never noticed the Add Preset Text dropdown box.

Just one question. A review is a little different from a regular post.

We want to do a good job of it which means there's a need to have a place to store say a draft which then can be worked on over a period of time which may be a few days or more as we work through the app. I mean how many of us can do it all at one sitting and get a review well done.

Of course this can be done offline. But is there a place on the forum where we can use this template and create a draft that only the reviewer and of course the administrator can view and then it is the reviewer who finally releases it when it is ready.

I think this will make it less intimidating particularly when posting the 1st or even subsequent reviews and perhaps more donationcoders to do mini or even full reviews.

On the administrator side, they can also see how many of such reviews are in the pipeline and at what stage they are in.

I was thinking about working on a mini-review and was looking for a template. Not sure if this is for a full blown review or a mini-review.

In any case, the template cannot be downloaded. I think it is missing.

For the PocketPC users (if any of them exist here) - discounts of 13% to 50% for December from :

If you don't find any you want, then go to

www.retailmenot.com for a general 20% coupon for Handango - it was there when I last visited about 2 days ago.

Actually I agree with you.

But I think there are others who may like a fixed structure which I think this program provides.

Of course I think Find and Run Robot is by far the more useful.

However, the real issue is the type of license that it offers, that you must install within a certain time window. Which means if you have a computer crash and or just a system or OS upgrade, you basically lose the ability to use the program unless of course you are now hooked on it and go buy a new license, unless you have a utility to move the software over legally.

This issue becomes more important when as the site says, they have garnered enough traffic lately to start having known names software to join their giveawayoftheday deals : see below.

Giveaway of the Day
"Attention: During the past few days we reached high enough popularity to start distributing world-wide known software products. Get ready for some surprising giveaways very soon!"
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/

291
This looks interesting :

Caveat : Although this is freeware for a very limited period, you have to install it within the giveaway window. That means if you re-install or buy a new laptop etc, the software cannot be re-installed which renders it kind of useless - so I tend to give such software a miss no matter how good it looks. But I guess it could still be useful until your next major OS install or re-install.

That is unless, there's a tool available that legally help you move registry entries and all to a new installation. Does anyone know of any such tools ?

General Software Discussion / TOP 11 Tools for Sending BIG Files
« on: December 04, 2006, 10:02 PM »
Thought this would come in useful for Donationcoders

Note: for those good at Arithmetic, you will notice there's only 9 sites. But it says 11. I guess it's new maths
Also, I had to manually align the columns (but it still comes out somewhat unaligned) and the clickable links are somehow not copied over.

Can anyone tell me how one can copy the article intact from http://www.makeuseof...-to-send-your-files/

By the way, I used Firefox 2 and CopyURL+

‘TOP 11 Tools for Sending BIG Files’ released » MakeUseOf.com
"You, me and I bet every webbie once in while needs to send over a file that’s bigger then max. allowed email attachment (e.g. video clip, movie, software program, etc). So 2 days ago I decided to make a list of somewhat better websites and tools for sending big files. After some extensive searching I got more then 100 sites, obviously this was too much so I filtered them further by canceling out ones which aren’t free, simple to use and with max.file size mark below 500 mb. And below is what I got afterwards;
max. size    days before file deleted    Sign-up Required
YouSendIt       1 gb               7                                           No
Gigasize         1.5 gb             90 days                                  Yes
TransferBigFiles   1 gb            5 days                                          No
MegaShares    1.5 gb                  7 days                                        No
BigUpload.       500 mb    30 days after last download                  No
MailBigFile         500 mb              7                                             No
FileUpload        500 mb          7                                            No
Zupload             500 mb    30 days after last download                   No
Spread-it.          500 mb           14 days                                          No
.
If you send/receive big files frequently and do so among friends then instead of using above ones I recommend to install one of the following programs, either of which is free and user friendly in its own way."

Wow, Ben, it's great to hear you are having so much fun with Automise.

It just makes the rest of us who are not the so heavy hitters drool at what we are missing.

I took a look at this but it looks like it's for Administrator type activities. But at 90% discount, it may interest some of you heavy hitters. Certainly not for me.

Came across this interesting idea to track down spam sources and dump it.

Clipmark
"Use Gmail to Generate Unlimited E-mail Addresses:

Gmail has an interesting quirk where you can add a plus sign (+) after your Gmail address, and it'll still get to your inbox. It's called plus-addressing, and it essentially gives you an unlimited number of e-mail addresses to play with. Here's how it works: say your address is [email protected], and you want to automatically label all work e-mails. Add a plus sign and a phrase to make it [email protected] and set up a filter to label it work (to access your filters go to Settings->Filters and create a filter for messages addressed to [email protected]. Then add the label work).

More real world examples:

Find out who is spamming you: Be sure to use plus-addressing for every form you fill out online and give each site a different plus address.

Example: You could use
[email protected] for nytimes.com
[email protected] for freestuff.com
Then you can tell which site has given your e-mail address to spammers, and automatically send them to the trash.

Automatically label your incoming mail: I've talked about that above.

Archive your mail: If you receive periodic updates about your bank account balance or are subscribed to a lot of mailing lists that you don't check often, then you can send that sort of mail to the archives and bypass your Inbox.

Example: For the mailing list, you could give [email protected] as your address, and assign a filter that will archive mail to that address automatically. Then you can just check in once in a while on the archive if you want to catch up.

Just came across this interesting site. It will get better as it grows. I think it's related to www.bugmenot.com

Of course please do not share discount codes you find on donationcoder as members. Send your friends to www.donationcoder.com instead.

RetailMeNot.com - coupon codes for online stores
"Many online stores allow for a "coupon" or "promotion" code when you order to automatically assign discounts, deals and freebies (kinda like money for nothing). RetailMeNot.com is a place for finding and sharing these coupon codes.
So... when you buy online, check here for discounts first (unless you're frikkin crazy)."
