This is likely one of the best Password and Automated Form-Filler.

Try filling in all the details when you book say airline tickets for several persons for a trip involving a few people with say flights over 3 or 4 destinations, then you will really only just begin to appreciate the beauty of Roboform.

I don't know of any alternative application that work as well as Roboform - not perfect but quite close to it and it's updated fairly regularly and works with many browsers.

Post New Requests Here / Do It Tomorrow reminder - Anti-Procrastinator
« on: November 05, 2008, 10:34 AM »
There are important things that I need to get done and one of the ways is to have a constant reminder staring at me whenever I see my desktop.

So it would be nice to have a simple tool that I could hit a hot key, and it would the allow me to add the item and closing it would "burned" it into my Windows desktop.

Once I get it done, I could then hit the hotkey, check it off and then it would be erased from my desktop.

One not so elegant way is to use BGinfo.exe
"Use the Custom button to add special information you define yourself."
http://technet.micro...ernals/bb897557.aspx

It allows me to add to a text file, the contents of which will be "burned" onto the screen - It allows me to determine which corner of the screen the text would be placed. Maybe, some might find this idea interesting and improve upon it.

This is not meant to replace one of those dedicated To do list programs that you might use for Getting Things Done where you list everything to get it out of your head.

This is to help me maintain a few items (probably no more than 10) that I want to keep in front of me - more like what's advocated by Mark Forster's Do It Tomorrow concept which I find more useful.

Update:
Just discovered a thread
Write on Windows Desktop - DonationCoder.com

Write on Windows Desktop"

No mention of BGinfo.exe there

I use Dopus as a File Manager.

When I select a file in DOPUS, I can right click the selected file and from the Context menu select Scan with AVG Free.

I would like to simplify this because Right Click to get the context menu and select the Scan with AVG Free command can be a little tedious.

Ideally, I could create a custom button and attach a command to execute AVG Free and scan the selected file.

But I'm not sure how to locate the command the context menu is using.

The command C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgscanx.exe accepts commandline instructions.

But the scanning is quite fast and it appears to be a DOS based command and the scanning results appears momentarily in a DOS windows and disappears before you can even look at it.

The Right Click Context Menu command Scan with AVG Free, brings up a Windows box telling you it's scanning and then the results.

Are there any DOPUS experts around here that knows the answer ?

Does anyone know of a quick and effective way to transfer the history of Internet Explorer to another computer.

This is so that when you type in the url bar, you will be able to see your recent visits.

Nirsoft has a IE history view. But it only list the items but has no facility to transfer.

Does anyone know of a program to switch power profile based on which program is active in windows.

For example, if I'm running a graphics program like Corel Draw in the currently active windows, I may want to Switch to full power.

But if I'm just reading a long text file in Notepad, I may want to switch to a much lower power profile.

Toshiba has a Toshiba Power Saver Properties that does this.

It allows the Profile to switch automatically.

What I'm looking for is a generic software that is not tied to a particular brand of laptop.

Alternatively, I'm looking for something similar that will work for an IBM (Lenovo) Thinkpad

37
I just bought a Lenovo T61 Thinkpad (they were having one of those crazy sales) that came with Windows Vista Home Edition with the intention of downgrading it to Windows XP Professional.

But I just runned into a problem.

The unit came with a Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 but it was pre-installed as a trial version (without an installation disk (but with a Product Key in a shrinkwrap package - without the CD and they tell you that the key WILL NOT activate volume license or other boxed copies of 2007 Microsoft Office)

So the intention is that you just activate Microsoft Office 2007 and you are done.

Of course, they think that only clowns like me want to downgrade to Windows XP Pro.

So the problem is that while working out how to get this done properly, I just realized that if I use another clean harddisk from scratch, I will be able to install Windows XP Pro, but I will end up having to sacrifice the pre-installed Microsoft Office 2007 since there is no installation disc.

Is there a way to uninstall Windows Vista Home and install Windows XP Professional so it becomes like a clean install of Windows XP Pro but with the Microsoft Office 2007 intact.

Or maybe the Microsoft Office 2007 installation files residing in a hidden folder somewhere in the harddisk.

Anyone has any ideas ?

Thanks

I would like to execute a particular command from within Firefox 3.

This could be calling a AutoHotkey script or the same script compiled into a DoThis.exe

Preferably this should be by way of clicking an Icon on one of the Firefox 3 toolbars.

Do anyone know of a way to accomplish this ?

Thanks

For Windows Mobile Users - This is a great deal
PhatWare has a great promotion running now through September 15th.  If you buy their award winning PhatNotes application for Windows Mobile Standard, Professional or Windows Tablet PC, you will get the latest version of CalliGrapher FREE!  That's a $40 savings!

http://www.phatware....ct/details/phatnotes

I own both software and I find them both excellent.

Phatnotes is a much better note taking software compared with Pocket Word - rather useful if take a lot of notes regularly.

Calligrapher is also great for handwriting once you get used to it and it has a built in macro language too.

With the macro language, I have been able to automate various routine tasks.

There are also other deals on www.phatware.com

I was looking through the various threads on what is a good Partition Management tool for Windows XP Pro and found that I could not get clear answer from the various threads on whether Paragon Partition Manager 2005 is a reliable tool.

Does anyone have experience with it ?

Or alternatively what about FREE EASEUS Partition Manager for Windows PC and Servers to Resize, Move, Create, Delete and Format partitions, etc.

In fact Easeus calls itself a Partition Magic Alternative and says it's free.

Has anyone encountered this AVG Threat Detected ! warning for MouseActivate

It says Virus identified Worm/Autoit.BKL

I assume it is a false warning as this program comes from none other than www.Donationcoder.com

Never had this warning before until today.

Anyway, I clicked the AVG's healed command and it says successfully healed.

Support Alert Newsletter Issue 157, Free Edition
"On April 24 the free version of AVG V8 was released, and was promptly met with howls of derision. The free version excluded the rootkit scanner, active protection against hostile websites and a number of the other goodies added to the commercial V8 product. It also was proving to be very buggy.

Worse still, AVG announced that they would discontinue (at the end of May) the virus updates for the current V7.5 free version as well as their free anti-spyware and rootkit detection products.

I can fully understand user's disappointment with these announcements, but this is a perfectly normal commercial decision. AVG is, after all, a commercial organization, not a charity.

Their move does, however, present users of AVG's free software with a problem. Before the release of the V8, many AVG users employed an excellent security setup that combined the free version of AVG AV 7.5 with AVG's free anti-spyware scanner. With both these products being phased out, users are faced with a dilemma."

I have used Freeware AVG 7.5 for sometime now. But looks like this happy relationship is gonna end soon !!

Any thoughts and ideas besides what Gizmo suggest.

I know someone who is one of four students living in a house.

They share a wireless network and based on the ISP plan they subscribed to, they have an allocated traffic of 50GB of high speed traffic per month and after that, the speed drops dramatically.

So each pays 25% of the cost.

What they have now is a situation of the 50gb being used up too quickly and everyone thinks it is someone else other than they themselves being responsible. Well obviously someone is visiting www.youtube.com etc too often.

Does anyone know of a freeware traffic monitoring tool that each can install on their computer that will track their respective usage so that there is a fair allocation between the various users that will lead to a peaceful co-existence. Preferably, there should be a traffic report that each can print out to support their case.

I recognize that such reports can of course be manipulated. But I will just assume that no one tries to beat the software. Just that all each one needs is a reliable "fuel" meter so that they know they are using up too much juice.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'm just thinking a little ahead which is why I'm asking this question.

I hate to move over to Vista but :

1. The approaching death of Windows XP is kind of getting closer each day
2. My laptop could fail and when I replace it earlier than I have to, I may be forced onto Vista

I have a wonderful piece of software that I've been using for several years now. The only thing that gets me worried is that it required a key that is stored on a floppy. I have in fact upgraded to a new version which does not require a floppy, but the new "user interface is terrible compared to the older version". So I cannot solve my problem with a software upgrade.

I seem to get the impression that Windows Vista does not recognize either the floppy drive or a diskette formatted under Windows 98.

Can anyone shed any light on whether Vista can recognize a USB floppy drive and a diskette

Thanks

They are all quality software which I own and use.
