It's broken here (central Europe). When I read the post I noticed the time in the upper right corner was one hour late. After "auto-detect" attempt of my time zone it's now one hour fast.

ZTreeWin can do sequential rename. But this is far away from Windows Explorer (thanks God!).

Still no one brave enough to try the free OpenDrive? It's not listed anywhere. Is it that bad?

229
QTTabBar records the history of closed Windows Explorer windows.

RecentFilesView displays the list of all recently opened files and folders.

Both freeware and highly recommended.

230
Try this. Looks familiar, doesn't it?

"Everything" 1.2.0.317b is available for beta testing. It now supports Unicode and has some more new features and enhancements.

Any news regarding FARR plugin implementation?

The formatting of list styles applies to the list paragraph numbering and indentation only. The body of the paragraph retains the formatting of the paragraph style applied previously.

... we are currently working on this version...

Working...? Working on what? So it's not going to be the same version, right? Limited features? Ads? Oh-oh...

KSO07 versions are provided as a 30 day trial and can be downloaded here until the release of KSO07 personal free edition.

... and this was supposed to appear in August. Next August, perhaps?

Is it just me? For a couple of days I can see only a blank page at Member Map. (Verified on IE7, Opera 9.60 and Chrome 0.3.154.0.)

DonationCoder.com was founded in March of 2005...

Couldn't be this the reason...?  :P

I just contacted the author of Everything and here's his response:
I am currently implementing unicode support for Everything which will be available soon.

Good news for all users, bad news for an eventual FARR plugin developer, though... But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

... I've never seen any ads so dunno where the ones you refer to come from.

I just quoted the mentioned page. It seems there are many variants of this product. I'll have to see for myself, time permitting.

I can't get to the web site comes up with "Page Load Error"  >:(

I was there right now, no problem here. Try to verify it from your place using http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/.

I suppose the problem with Copernic is that it cannot be configured to scan files with blank extension, which is the case of HOSTS file. But again, I never use Copernic for searching for filenames only, despite it's supposed to support it.

The free version of Kingsoft Office 2007 has some limitations - it cannot save files in PDF format and is ad supported. But we will tolerate some ads in return for a freeware. For some reason, this version is not yet released through their official site though it was supposed to have been made available last month. So you have to download it through another site.

So it's not freeware, but adware. Besides, it's strange that this version has to be downloaded from a site residing in Vietnam.

Well, I suppose I've spent too much time with this. It seems nobody bothered yet to test the compatibility, and neither will I.

OK, I understood the sentence "In order to allow you to maintain a totally free version we will shortly be releasing a newer version of our KSO07 as a personal edition with a license created for home use." like that the free version is still not available.

Never mind, back to the thread topic: Did anyone try it? I'm especially interested in compatibility with MS Office. I can recall how much time I spent in vain some time ago trying to run my MS Office mail merge and macros on OpenOffice, resulting in purchasing newer version of MS Office...

243
Seconds? It is supposed to find it in a fraction of a second! (And it does on my system.) On the other hand, Copernic is not supposed to find it at all--unless you specifically tell it to search in Windows folder, which doesn't make sense IMHO.

(I noticed in this forum that filename indexing applications (like locate32) are often compared or even mistaken for content indexing applications (like Copernic). These are very different in many aspects, and both have theirs places even on a single system.)

But does a office suite need a alternative to Outlook?. KSO07 is free now you just need to ask for a serial number!

I do. ;-) By the way, I didn't find where you can download KSO07 free version, just the quote in my previous post.

I was waiting for Kingsoft Office 2007 free edition, which was supposed to be available in August. But according to theirs site:

KSO07 versions are provided as a 30 day trial and can be downloaded here until the release of KSO07 personal free edition.

In my eyes this didn't increase the credibility of this product... Besides, if I understand it correctly, even the latest suite doesn't include any alternative to Outlook, so it seems I'm stuck with MS Office forever...

246
Justice, you're right. I just followed the example on theirs page, but using "*.ext" searches properly the real extensions.

247
Thanks nosh for the heads up. The speed of indexing is really amazing. But it wouldn't be me not to point out some problems--besides some more special features missing (compared to locate32):

  • doesn't properly sort Unicode filenames
  • always case-sensitive search for accented characters
  • doesn't comply to system setting "Single-click to open"
  • no simple way to search for extensions (the recommended method like ".mp3" searches for the string within the filename, not real extensions)
  • no saved searches

This all works in locate32. "Everything" beats it in the indexing speed and real-time file monitoring, though.

Thanks Edvard, but ePrompter doesn't work at all here -- "timed out" on every update attempt. Besides, its design is a bit outdated, isn't it? I couldn't stand it for long, anyway...

Post New Requests Here / Re: Vista style filename editing in XP
« on: September 25, 2008, 05:29 AM »
Similar results for people too lazy for AHK (like me) can be achieved using QTTabBar, if I remember correctly, and even more advanced with Pitaschio, where pressing F2 cycles between filename, extension and full filename with extension. The latter also works in open/save dialogs.

Are you using full message download or just preview or headers? I have full messages, and around 400 of them. Besides, I'm on Vista Business. Thanks for any tip.
