General Software Discussion / monitor ink usage
« on: May 12, 2009, 06:28 PM »
hello

recently my printing volume increased dramatically and I researched for an economic way to use my Canon IP4300 by refilling the cartidges

however, if the chip is not reset the printer stops to monitor ink usage and thus there is a risk of trying to print with empty cartidge which harms printer

there are auto reset chips or chip resetters, however I wouldn't waste more money on them (the cost would exceed the printer cost itself) and waste time to reset them

thus, I would like to somehow accurately and reliably monitor ink usage, by monitoring pages printed, ink coverage on each page, etc, so that to use a software method to alert when ink would run low

is there a solution like this?
if you have other solutions for cheap printing please inform me

thanks!

how many recent typed characters do you want to paste?

just few  sentences or keywords (used recently for search etc)

I was asking for something different, the ability to repaste with a hotkey

You mean something like a rolling FIFO buffer that would hold the last 100 (or whatever) characters, and display them instantly with a hotkey?

yes, that would be

thanks but, I was asking for something different, the ability to repaste with a hotkey, it's simple I know, just wondering though

hello

is there a program that will monitor and save all the characters I type and let me paste the last ones easily with a hotkey?

I often need to re-type the last typed letters but I forget to copy them and then paste them

thanks

mm, I have a problem with my custom installation of XP, where I removed some network drivers required for wincap
I would be grateful if you could catch it and paste the link to the file
thanks

PS: or it may be hardcoded with the flash

however it appears #N/A in the fields, is there any way to 'hide' it?

mm, not sure I have made my self clear enough, since I don't think these suggestions fit what I need to accomplish, so I post an example:

here is what I type manually:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/5548/022312.png

and here is what should be filled automaticaly:
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/6899/022406.png

ofcourse I need somehow to specify that I whenever I type "SMITH" in the second cell of a row, to fill the first cell of the row with "JACK", the third with "42" and the fourth with "981571", I suppose this can be done with a macro or maybe VLOOKUP or something, this is what I am asking

I'm assuming you already have a table of data somewhere where "word", "word1", "word2" etc, are already existing as rows (or columns),

nope, I don't have the "word", "word1", "word2" etc stored in an excel file, but I can do this if it is needed
also, please note that the "word", "word1", "word2" etc are specific data, not variables

what you want to do is to have the related items filled in whenever you choose a particular instance of "word"

what I want is to have the related data automatically filled ("word1" in "column1", "word2" in "column2", etc, in the line I typed the "trigger" "word")
the trigger event that will trigger the autofill of data would be to write "word" in a specific column named "column" (but if that's too hard, let's just say to only write the "word" in any column)

If this is the case, then using VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP would probably be you answer.
not sure about those functions, by I would suppose that a macro could do what I need? just by resembling what I want to do with some macros in office that autowrite "by the way" after you type btw or something...

General Software Discussion / autofill in EXCEL
« on: April 30, 2009, 03:17 PM »
hello

I would like to do this in MS EXCEL:

when I type a specific "word" in a column named "column" to automatically write in the same line: "word1" in "column1", "word2" in "column2" etc (in other words to autofill the other cells of the line with specific data for each collumn)

can you tell me please how to do this?

thanks

General Software Discussion / corrupted file after power disruption
« on: November 26, 2008, 06:26 AM »
hello

I was using a software (mirc) and this software reads a txt file (script.ini) to perform some actions, it does NOT write on this file anything

but when the power of the laptop stopped, and I had to reboot, this file was corrupted (it contained NULL characters when opened with notepad)

1. is there a way to restore it?

2. why this happened? I mean, since there was no write activity at this file at all, why just reading the file got the file corrupted? is it winxp or hard disk's fault?

3. how can I prevent such failures in the future?

thanks

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Automatic Copy when highlighted
« on: October 16, 2008, 05:52 PM »
I have tested it, it is very nice!

I enjoy very much the 'search' and 'go to url' features
I like that it works with almost all text selection methods

however waiting a second to trigger the copying of the highlighted text, while ofcourse it's faster than any other copy method, it is still not instant and it requires time

ofcourse, we need somehow to make it clear that we need to copy the highlighted text and not just highlight it, and while 'waiting' is indeed a way, it may be a better way to distinguish when we need the highlighted text to be copied

I have posted here some other ideas too:

General Software Discussion / Re: image problem
« on: September 28, 2008, 06:28 AM »
I will test this (BW and then greyscale conversion)

my scanner is opticbook 3600 and it has contrast, brightness, gamma correction adjustments, but the preview area is small to distinguish any detail and it's hard to find the optimum combination of those three values

General Software Discussion / image problem
« on: September 28, 2008, 05:22 AM »
hello

I scan at TIF 600dpi greyscale in my scanner

as you can see in this screenshot, the scanner somehow produces images with some marks around the characters, I don't know if glossy paper is responsible for this (the marks look like reflections) or the scanner or something else

this is the crop of a scanned page:
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/8014/33734607td2.png

this is the same crop but with lowered brightness and contrast in photoshop that makes those marks much more visible:
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/2667/11316679dt4.png

the marks around the characters cause problems to the OCR program and this reports some characters as 'uncertain characters' or recognizes them erroneously

do you know what causes this and if there is a way to fix it

thanks

thanks for your reply

it's hard and dangerous to directly edit registry, isn't there a program than can customize open with list?
