N.A.N.Y. 2024 / Re: TIMP - Tray Icon Music Player [N.A.N.Y. 2024]
« on: January 14, 2024, 04:40 PM »
Timp\TIMP.exe "C:\Music\Artists\Electro-Light" /play

Sure thing  Adding it to v0.2.0.

BTW, Unless you have another functionality in mind, the /play argument is redundant, right?

Actually it wouldn't be redundant, as we could use another command line to progress the list and another to go back so for an example:

Timp\TIMP.exe  /next
Timp\TIMP.exe  /pre
Timp\TIMP.exe "C:\Music\Artists\Electro-Light" /play
Timp\TIMP.exe  /pause

this way the commands might also be able to be triggered in the popup menu too. I mean just because it is tiny, it still can be functionally powerful.  :-[ So play would be far from redundant as it would start the TIMP playing whatever directory it was loaded in. Can you see what I mean?

Nice idea but the program doesn't seem to accept command lines to start or play a file or directory, nor does it seem to accept a directory to load.
For an example:
Timp\TIMP.exe "C:\Music\Artists\Electro-Light" /play
I do like the size of it though, and I hope you can keep working with it!

Thank you Vic, but I believe the empire has this with all due respects. Since the empire came up with Trout in the first place, plus I really do not like the idea of luvnplay... It really sounds tacky at best. Lastly, I believe you were trying to work on the board I commissioned you to do ages ago.

So please, allow the Empire to improve their product and please take down luvnplay as it is  really not doing much and besides a Minnow with a Trout has a far better ring to it. Thank you so much for understanding.

While Trout does have some command-line argument capabilities, it isn't a command-line player.  Happy to write one for you, though.  Can you give me some more details about what you want, i.e.:

1. Do you want to pass the executable a folder and simply have it play a random audio file within that folder?
2. What kind of GUI, if any, did you have in mind?
3. Hotkeys to control things?

etc...

Exactly, without a GUI really, I mean maybe though a floating desktop icon and a right click to select the file in the folder if desired, but for it to be playing random files kind of like trout, but in a mini form. I mean I like the Trout's mini vertical bar but even smaller than that would be GREAT! Middle clicking on it could open a file menu with options and a show of the current playlist but of course to be operated though a shortcut with a commandline to feed it directories or files to play automatically.

Of course unlike Trout it needs to clear it's list on exit so it could be refed freshly. I remember you worked on Squeaky Mouse which still works and honestly was and still is fabulously working on win 10 (I'm not tickled about updating to win 11 so call me old fashioned I guess).

One idea could be while it's playing to mouse over this mini floating bar and or icon and press arrow keys to control the player like pressing the right arrow would play the next song on the randomized list while the left would repeat the song, up might be to increase volume and down would be to decrease it. This way hotkey usage might be minimized as well as easy to remember.

What do you think of my Mini Mp3 or Minnow idea? Also do you still accept donation credits?

I think I found a solution? Trout creates a list.TPL file which holds the playlist loaded from the last time it was opened. If I delete the tpl file Trout creates every time Trout closes then it kinda refreshes trout. There needs to be a better way to work around the problem though.... I can treat the TPL file like a .txt file and even edit it and repopulate it.

Ok I got it to load a directory with the commandline:
...\Trout.exe "L:\Music\Doctor Who" /playpause
yet it doesn't seem to clear the previously loaded files. So of course if I run the commandline again... it adds the directory of mp3s to the playlist... Any ideas?

Trout is nice but I do not know how to use the command line functions... I do not know where the documentation for command line controls are? Do you know where this might be?

Are there any small command line MP3 players that can randomly play MP3's in a folder? I would love a program to be able to do this...

I sent the files you requested, they are a bunch of computer beeps from star trek. I sent through Pcloud.

Of course you could rename them as you see fit...

I hope this idea will be great... :-*

Hmmm, well as long as there might be a sound event playing to alert the user (the idiot me) of the change to another function, I see no problem with monitoring the click length combined with location for different kinds of options.

For an example, clicking for 1 second on the bottom half might change a highlight color (with medium 2 seconds and or 3 seconds extra bright user discretions for colors) double click no highlight, meanwhile a top monitored click will change the fonts (again 4 different font options) with the double click switching back to the default font.

The sounds should be customizable though... Should I send you some basic sound wave files to package with the release? I mean all they are are beeps and whistles really but it would help with alerting which function is active.

:-* Thank you so much I am currently trying to use focus writer as my text display program, and well, while I could pick out the initial fonts, and initial colors, it lacks the ability to easily change the fonts and colors on right click ( or any click for that matter). While it does have a nicer window layout with the text background than my original idea, and features the autohide of the task and tab bars, it still has it's bugs and well the lack of ease of font switching/highlighting/color change of texts.

If you can get these into the beastboard, there will be a handsome reward for you....

I'm not sure where you will be releasing it, as the original github hasn't been touched or updated since sept. 3rd... However our hopes are still high that you will be able to come up with something good....

I hope I'll be able to test the Beastboard out soon. I'm sorry for your delays and I really wish they were behind you now so you could focus on finishing this off....

The hotkey idea is definitely doable as long as the hotkeys are definable in settings, but multiple menu hotkey bars autohiding might work too..  :-*

Ok... I can't wait to see what you come up with...

Sure Alomware does have interesting tools, but it does not have event triggering from app monitoring in the toolbox. It is rather nice though, and maybe they could have something like a program monitor in the future as it is in beta.

Well I am sticking with windows 10 as I am not really amused with windows 11.... So I would hope that it would be usable from 10 going forward. Yet, I've heard about win 12 in the grand scheme of things, and for that I'll be getting a new computer for that and using this system as a backup.  :-[

This is wonderful news! My usual browser has been Chrome... so new tabs shouldn't be too much of a problem, however I use giphy sometimes as well as duck duck go image search engines but I wanted to be more flexible so that's why I thought of a separate text file containing the search links to be reread every time the program restarted... So this way it could read how many engines there were to ask for and change the dialogue box automatically... or just an easier way to update the engine search prompt.... I hope this isn't too complicated.. and I do deeply thank you for your efforts so far...

I've included an old actona script I wrote a long time ago, that I couldn't change into ahk, that did the same kinds of actions I'm describing, yet the actona is now defunct, and windows is giving me a headache over it. Plus updating it with new possible search engines are a pain. So I thought of this simpler way to search for images for my students in a flash...

I hope you can find it as a useful guide so you wouldn't be starting from scratch entirely...
