It would be nice if someone were to improve them so they can do the following:

Gaming Devices plugin:

1. It should emulate the Wii Remote as a gamepad.

Wii Remote plugin:

1. It should automatically connect the WiiMote if its not already connected.
2. It should display the remaining battery life in its Configuration.
3. It should warn the user when the battery is almost empty via a tray balloon.

You can find the source for them at http://rmx.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/rmx/plugins/. RMX Automation's homepage is http://wiki.darkain.com/wiki/Main_Page.

Wivi (http://www.wivi.com) is a new p2p application through which you can broadcast live video to an unlimited audience.

Wivi is now in open beta and is unique in that it is completely decentralized (there are no servers and no filtering or regulating of content) and in the simplicity a user can broadcast his own live TV (all a user needs is a regular internet home connection).

You can download the Wivi Beta at http://www.wivi.com

Intro:

Espresso is a powerful permissions-based email client designed to completely eliminate spam as you define it from your Inbox.

Espresso's unique email filtering system is based on common sense. Everyone knows from whom they want to receive email. Anyone else who sends you messages is sending you junk, otherwise known as spam. Espresso does not filter junk. It only looks for messages you want to receive based on simple, yet powerful rules. Using a number of options available, you decide how to handle messages from unknown senders.

Who is this app designed for:

It is designed for anyone that wants an e-mail client that won't bog the system down and still have most of the features found in others that are bigger than it.

The Good

  • Lightweight and portable email client
  • Powerful junk mail filtering based on permissions
  • Filter messages using regular expressions
  • Ability to add notes to individual messages
  • Hide private messages from prying eyes
  • Automatic blind copy on all outgoing mail
  • Easily flag important messages
  • Supports POP3, IMAP4, HTTP protocols
  • Preconfigured for easy setup of Hotmail and GMail
  • Built-in ability to backup and restore mailbox
  • Powerful spell-checker for outgoing messages
  • Choose to save or delete messages when you send them
  • Automatically mark messages as read when moved to trash
  • Fast searching for text in the selected folder's/all messages

The needs improvement section

  • Has some non-standard keyboard shortcuts
  • Doesn't catch mailto: links in Vista unless you modify the Registry (EDIT: I fixed it by reinstalling Vista)
  • Doesn't allow you to sync its local folders with IMAP folders
  • Doesn't automatically add outgoing e-mails addresses to the address book (even with the option checked)
  • Can't disable the dialog that appears when closing the "add contact"/"compose" dialog
  • An additional Re: is added to the beginning of the subject of each reply you make to a message
  • Unicode isn't fully supported (characters used in other languages look weird)
  • There should be a space between the user's reply and the quoted message

Why I think you should use this product

I think that you should use this product because its light on RAM/HD usage, is fast when launching it/viewing messages, and is still feature-packed.

How does it compare to similar apps

It comes with most of the features that they have. Such as Spell Checking and Flagging/Labeling messages.

Conclusions

In conclusion, its a really good e-mail client that is lightweight and is still being worked on (the developer stated that he would update it later this year). My rating for it is a 4.5/5.

General Software Discussion / NTFSearch
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:25 PM »
Description of it from its webpage:

Normal program searchs directory for directory, that needs a lot of time. Some programs create an index, but then they work in the background and need system resources.
NTFSearch searchs in partition datas to get the file information within several seconds. A typical search request then takes about 15-35 seconds!!!. On fast hard discs a query can also go down to 5 seconds!!
NTFSearch is designed extra lean to provide a fast and easy usage.

...or directories that are older than a certain amount of time without displaying any windows. The only freeware program I know that does some of what I'm requesting is e.Purge (unfortunately, it seems that the developer of it gave up on developing it further).

General Software Discussion / UpdateStar
« on: October 02, 2007, 03:49 PM »
Description from the SnapFiles listing:

UpdateStar scans your computer for installed software products and produces a list of your inventory and available updates, along with download link and additional information. The program not only works with widely used commercial products, but also with many freeware and shareware programs available from the web. UpdateStar runs in the system tray and can automatically check for updates on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. You can customize the list of products and choose to ignore updates from certain products. The update database is maintained by the developer and accepts input from users to help improve the accuracy. The current version recognized about half of the 50 products we had installed, so there is definitely room for improvement. Overall, however, this is a very promising product.

General Software Discussion / MooPlayer
« on: November 30, 2006, 07:34 AM »
Description from the FileForum listing:

MooPlayer was designed to replace Windows Media Player 6 (mplayer2). It uses a similar style where the player is only the actual video, menu and window frame. It is DirectShow based which means it supports all formats that Windows Media Player does (MPEG, DivX, XviD, etc.). The interface is meant to be as minimal as possible. All controls are overlayed on the video so you can easily access them even in full screen mode. This also means they don't clutter up the view as much. It is released under the GPL and source is available for all releases.

General Software Discussion / SopCast
« on: June 22, 2006, 09:10 PM »
Description from the FileForum listing:

SopCast is a simple, easy to use system to watch streaming media on the Internet. It is a Network Media Broadcasting system based on P2P Technology. It could make any node in the network to act as a retransmitter, and slowdown the media server’s workloads when audiences quantity grows. The SopCast Streaming Over P2P technology is more resilient in case nodes quit and connection fail, it is suitable for broadcasting over the Internet. You can use SopCast to watch TV, furthermore you can use it to build your own channel. Anyone can build his own personal media on the Internet.
