I'm not very good at these displays of advanced emotion and that sort of thing, and I shall probably blush.
Just because of that it will be even more appreciated

I'll do it in Dutch, just to attract some fellow Dutchmen: Hiep hiep hoera!

I've been reading around a bit, and it sounds like a driver-issue, even though you have the latest (beta's?) installed.

What if you went back to WHQL tested drivers?, just for the heck of it: See if that works, they might have slipped some fancy feature in, that you have not been waiting for...

Let's see what happens if the book-salesman came back after, say, 1 month, and took back the books I bought earlier from my library, while I was sleeping. He wouldn't be selling books for some time then, he'd be in jail! (at least if I caught him, or in the hospital, I'm not sure yet :-\)

Living Room / Re: Should I add ads to my website?
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:09 PM »
I'd let it depend on the amount of intrusion of the adds compared to the usual site-shape & tone. If it where to be all high-contrast colored adds, compared to the rest of the site, I'd nay it, but if the tone of color is quite 'do-able', I'd try it for a year, and then see if you can live without the money adds ;)

You have to get a smaller car, the mug doesn't look very big this way, it just merely looks great... :D

  - both monitors display the BIOS startup screen and the Win7 boot up animation. This suggests to me that hardware isn't an issue
Well, that probably is the issue. I've been using dual-monitor setups for years now, and never have both BIOS and Windows startup-stuff display on both monitors :o only on the main monitor!

Does your videocard have some kind of BIOS-setup that can be activated during boot? (I recall one of my older video-cards displaying a message about Ctrl-Ins or so, not sure though) Usually there you can set options like these, and I guess there is some mirroring-mode enabled which is (finally?) recognized and obeyed by the Win7 driver, that the XP driver just ignored or overruled (or had a setting for...).

Site/Forum Features / Re: Suggestion for Modify of your last post
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:36 PM »
Yep, this does make sense, but chances are big you won't be the last poster in the thread, so you'll have to make a new post after all...
And then, making a new post with a (short) change-log or What's New, is also informative for more or less novice users of your utility. They can see what changed since the last iteration, and be quickly updated, not needing to indulge the entire previous changelog, remembering what was there before, and trying to filter out what you just added... Kinda like skwire tends to do with his many releases and updates.

A combination of both could also be quite user-friendly: Update the original release-posting with all the extra features and options you have (you have it summed up in a readme, right?) *and* make a new post with just the stuff added this time.
This is the way I have planned to keep my March2011 fundraiser release up to date 8)

Oh yeah, we (including me) should really do that, such a good idea.

I'll take care of a Coding Snack release on March 3rd.

General Software Discussion / Re: Serial Key Storage for Windows
« on: February 27, 2011, 01:36 PM »
If both of Horst Schaeffer's MemPad and DateReminder utilities could be combined, to give reminders, 1 or 2 months before a license is about to expire, or offer a plug-in for MS Outlook, so timely warnings would display on my screen or Agenda, then that would finally be very useful!

We have some yearly expiring software licenses, that I can only detect of being expired by users complaining that they can't contact the service >:( And that service is then immediately needed to update the local license because the IDE at hand won't run without it >:( And then the update-process of the license at the manufacturer's website, even though I reported the errors several times now, won't give a new license key, so I have to wait (and my users) for the supportdesk to supply me a new key.
Yes we are trying to get rid of them, but this is about their only product we aren't able to get rid of, because of the specific featureset. :o

AFAIK, these proxies present a page when using http(s) from a browser. And most other apps should know how to pass an authenticating proxy, so it seems... :tellme:

umm, you mean "just delete it" ??
Nope,
Nothing to install, nothing to clear if you need to get rid of it, just run it.
Re-phrase: Nothing to install, and nothing to clear if you need to get rid of it, you can just run it whenever you need it.

I could swear someone already informed me JottiQ should work through proxies.
That was me, when testing JottiQ on several platforms 8)

But the devil is in the details, as usual, I have a proxy that doesn't require authentication, and sujay85 is asking for proxy with authentication... but AFAICS that's not supported by configurable using the standard Windows Internet settings :nono2:

Both Novell ZEN Application Virtualization and VMWare's ThinApp Wikipedia offer application 'portabilization', by packaging an entire application and it's required environment into a single exe. At a tradeshow (2009) I got an USB key holding a ZEN packaged OpenOffice installation (it sure was not the Portable OpenOffice!) to try, and it works just fine. Nothing to install, nothing to clear if you need to get rid of it, just run it.

That's a whole lot lighter then running a portable VBox instance.

And this is a person who allegedly donates under one name, but then signs in under a second forum name whenever he feels the urge to hector and insult under the guise of constructive criticism. Boy is that ever terrific forum etiquette. Speaks volumes about the person's character as well.
A troll will always stay a troll, whatever name he hides behind. Let's just not feed them :-\

e.g. c:\Program Files\Auspex\Auspex.exe -inifile t:\portable\auspex

Hm, that doesn't look really portable, I'd go for:
t:\portable\auspex\Auspex.exe -inifile t:\portable\auspex

Screenshot Captor / Re: BUG - Copy Object
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:59 AM »
I must have made a change recently that made Ctrl+C always copy full screenshot.

It's been broken for so long that I can't remember, but I didn't report it here, as I should have :-[ :-[
I've always been using Edit/Copy Image/Object to Clipboard (Ctrl-C) menuitem, that works fine.

General Software Discussion / Re: Portable hyperlinker
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:45 AM »
a folder in my pc with subfolders and files inside. In the main folder a would like to put a director document or a sort of menu with explanations (I was thinking in word xp with hyperlinks to the documents - images, audio, video, pdf, doc, etc)
Wouldn't that be called a webserver, that main document being index.html ?

my contribution to DC is long overdue and I can't wait for the 1st of March
Yep, here too, the day's are getting longer, and the nights shorter, on the western hemisphere, so it seems a little faster each day (been working on it during nights ;))

Donors will have a chance to win a custom deck of Cody Cards in the end-of-the-fundraiser drawing
That's a good reason for a donation, collector items
